Everetts injury is pretty bad...
thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family...

Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
most likely not to get all movement back.
damn |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
I suffered a somewhat similar injury in a car accident. I was temporarily knocked out (a few seconds to a minute), fractured some vertebrae, my cord was compressed by a disc, and I had to have emergency surgery to put donor bone, a titanium plate and a few screws in my neck. After I started to regain feeling, I wanted to lose it....had to be the most awful pain I ever felt. Obviously, I recovered alright, but I can distinctly recall the fear I felt when I was laying in the ER/OR totally immobilized and being told by the doctor that they had to operate or I could die. I was so damn scared that I cried; something I hadn't done in public since I was about 5.
I can't begin to express how sorry I felt for Everett when I saw the re-play. As I said in another thread, I am agnostic, but I'm praying for the guy. I hope others do as well. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
Such a sad story on opening weekend. Its tough to see anyone carted off the field, like Jansen yesterday. But he will recover and be back strong. In this case, Everett will be effected for life and doesn't look like he will regain full movement. Really sad news to hear and you can only send prayers out to him and his family. This must be the toughest of times.

Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
i've read lots of articles today about his injury and so far the news is not good-- his dr told him he had about 5 to 10 % chance of walking again -- after the surgery the dr said that the procedure went well and that the spinal cord and the spinal column were both 100% intact so for those of us who do pray and believe that prayer can change things , we'll continue to pray for this young man and his family - i can't even imagine what emotions they must be dealing with

Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
Horrible story, I feel for the guy and his family.
|
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
I was searching around for a clip of the hit. Found another vid of Everett on nfl.com hoping to establish himself more with the starting line up. It shows him getting pointers from Robert Royal. He seemed to be a down to earth type guy who appreciated were he was. I hope everything works out for him.

Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
This is why NFL salaries are "worth it" compared to other sports. This could happen to anyone. It didn't even look like a hard hit, it just hit in the wrong way.
That is my worst nightmare, and I'm sure it is a lot of people's worst nightmares. I feel absolutely terrible for Everett and his family. This is one of the worst things that could happen to them. |

I was checked and lost my footing and slid into the boards head first...for about 1 second I lost functions of my arms and legs, but then it came immediately back. Every time I hurt my neck, the first thing I do is move my fingers and toes because of that injury. Scary man...very scary. I'm glad you recovered fully. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
what a sad story. his family and him get all my prayers

Definately will pray/hope for the guy. If the spinal cord is 100% intact, my guess is that it was severely traumatized and scar tissue is forming on the cord which is disrupting signals to the rest of his body. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
Hopefully , every sports fan will have Mr. Everett and his family in their thoughts and prayers . Hopefully he can recover enough to live a good healthy long life . I believe the Ny Jets D. Byrd is still walking and has a couple of kids , hopefully Everett can also ! Lets hope to never see that again . Glad to see that Sheriff and Jsarno are doing well after your injuries , stay safe and stay strong !

Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
Not cool...not cool at all. I hope he gets better quickly, and can at least gain enough mobility to have a normal life again. Prayers are with him and his...

That sounds like a terrible thing to go through. Glad you made a full recovery bro. And I will pray that Everett has the same fate that you had. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
having a severe injury like the sheriff or this young man have had is no fun.i have a plate in my back from spinal fusion surgery, and that hurt like hell.when i was a sr in high school,a kid from salem virginia named chance crawford was
paralyzed from the waist down after lowering his head during a tackle.one of my best friends was the guy he ran into, and it changed his life so much that he actually went to school 12 years and is now a great neurologist.i really feel for this young man,i'm sure getting paralyzed like this was the last thing he ever thought about when he went to make the tackle sunday.he's so lucky that he is in a position to have the best medical care in the world now and on the field when he was hurt.i'm praying for this kid,and i hope god touches him and we all read about his miracle recovery in his biography soon. |

While I appreciate the sentiment, mine was a normal injury with no repercussions, not like Sheriff. I was just showing that it scared the shit out of me and mine was for literally 1 second...I can't imagine it lasting as long as it has with everett or anyone else. The doctor for everett said he has a 5-10% chance of getting full motion back. That sucks, but at least there is a chance. Makes you wish Stem Cell research wasn't cut. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
ESPN just reported that, as the sedation is wearing off, Everett is able to move his hands and legs. Although he cannot move them normally, which is to be expected, his Dr. is optimistic that Everett will walk again.
PS - Thanks jsarno and others who said nice things about me and my injury. I'm 90% back and I pray Everett recovers as well, if not better. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
Sportscenter just announced an update on Everett's condition.
GOOD NEWS...the doctor announced after releasing his sedation he has movement of his arms and legs and the doctor is certain he will walk again!!! He also said he is confident he will walk out of the hospital!!! EXCELLENT NEWS! |

I think a lot of us will be there with you. He has been given a second chance at life, good for him. |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
I've got to admit that it is so nice to see fans of every team rooting for Everett.

Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
I was talking about this with my father-in-law this evening and doesn't it seem strange that these fluke paralyzation things tend to always happen to guys who are 3rd string or special teamers, while you can have marquee players take a beating for season after season and they rarely get the traumatic injuries like this?
The only dude I can think of in recent memory who has had anything like this who was a "name" player was Tedy Bruschi with the stroke, but on-field incidents, I'm drawing a blank... |
Re: Everetts injury is pretty bad...
He wasn't an NFLer, but does anyone here remember Tim Strachan?

Yup, played HS ball at DeMatha high, was going to go to Penn State. Was ranked at the same level (or higher) nationally than fellow HS QBs Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb. He was awesome in high school. Just awesome. |
