ESPN Power Rankings

ESPN - NFL Power Rankings - National Football League

The Cowboys went from 8 to 5. In fact nearly every team that won moved up. Nearly...

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

Granted.

That was a pretty status quo kind of win.

It's hard to answer questions about your identity against a team without an identity.

Kind of like getting an A on a test in health class. I'll still pat myself on the back though...

I have a feeling a win against the Dolphins will look less and less impressive as the season moves on.

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

Who knows. We'll get a chance to see how they match up against the cowboys next week.

That's one game I'll be very interested to see.

Sorry, but no freakin way should tenn be 14th!!! They won that game cause Scobee got hurt for Jacksonville, then they jump from 22nd to 14th????
We are better than Tenn., San Fran, Jacksonville, Green Bay, and the Jets!

The last thing we need is to move up in anybody's rankings. Frankly I hope this team gets ridiculed and overlooked by every talking head, analyst, and obese, raving sportswriter all the way through week 17. We could use the bulletin board material.

Pretty good power rankings jsarno. I would say, however that the Panthers and Jags are a little high and the Giants are a little low.

Maybe as of today, but the G-Men will be sitting there after 3 weeks with Dedrick Ward and Jared Lorenzen running the show, don't you think?

I can definitely see your point about the Panthers...I just feel they are solid all around and a sleeper team this year.
The Jags are at 17...where would you put them? The jags have a SOLID defense, and a great running game...they just have a question at QB. They could win 9-10 this year if Garrard does ok. Of course they always seem to under achieve.
The Giants are not too low though. They just lost their starting RB, QB and DE, and got embarrassed by an overrated Cowboys offense. They will be lucky to win 1 game by week 5.

But about the rest of the picks...thanks.

I think we would have to go at least 5 - 0 just to crack the top ten. If we beat Philly and they don't put us ahead of them next week, then we can surely say they are biased against the Redskins. Of course, if the Eagles lose to us, they may plummet into the 20s because we can't possibly be any good.

If the Eagles lose to us, then everyone will say how horrible they are that they lost to the Packers and the Skins. We won't get the credit, they will be discredited. (and of course use the McNabb injury as an excuse)

Hey, don't ever underestimate the value of a chip on your shoulder as a motivational device. Maybe Joe should have Agent Hibachi stop by and give a seminar on the value of self-destructively setting yourself up as the underdog... it could be the uniting theme of DC sports franchises!

That's good enough for me. I'm so sick of that bunch up there. Of course the run defense and Donovan's "lack of weapons" will get most of the blame even if his completion percentage is in the 40s again.

and to think wasnt the dolphins Def in the top 10 if not top 5 last year? but we run over them and get no respect for that though its like the skins beat an easy opponent.

After watching the NFC east games from this weekend, I think we all should be right around each other. All 4 teams have the talent to get good records, but I don't think Philly should be as high as they are. And there is NO WAY IN HELL dallas is the 5th best team in the NFL. They did look good, but......whatever....they suck.

I thoght this was a pretty blase win vs miami (but a win is a win) and the O didnt look like much to brag about. I think the skins are exactly where they should be and when they beat some of the better teams they will move up.

I am going to take the approach of many Skins players over the past several weeks. Go ahead and forget about us, don't chat about us, don't write good things about us and let us fly below the radar for awhile.

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

I think we're about where we should be; close to middle of the pack.
It wasn't a convincing win overall, even though we can take a no. of positives from it: improved run D, strong run game, JC showing maturity in ot, Suisham & overall team chemistry that comes w/wining a tough game.

Compare our ranking to the Vikes at 24; yeah they beat Atl., but they did so convincingly, 24-3.

you forget what they did at end of the season, after going 0-5, then finishing 8-8 with Vince. I think they showed they are a pretty good team going into Jacksonville and getting a divisional road win. no matter how they won, they won.

no way. Dallas and Philly are better than us...right now. ranking dont mean a damn thing. i dont know why people get all pissed off about these things. the only rankings that mean anything are the college rankings.

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

Well, we were 5-11 last year. We opened the season up against a team that was 5-11 last year that has a new coach, new qb and we BARELY won a game on our home field.

I don't expect us to be high on a power ranking. Now on the other hand we shouldn't really move down either.

SC Skins Fan 09-12-2007 09:17 AM

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

I know this is obvious, but who really cares what ESPN says? This isn't college football, rankings don't matter one lick. In another obvious statement, I am continually impressed by how little other people know about the Redskins and by the sort of ignorant statements I continually hear and read by those not closely associated with the team. Whatever, I don't have much intimate knowledge about other teams either, I guess, but barring more injuries the Skins are obviously vastly improved over last year and maybe by week 14 or 15 other people will see that.

Cowell 09-12-2007 09:38 AM

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

I get what your saying about how power rankings don't matter, but I do like to see were the rank teams and whether I agree with their rankings. Did you see how high they shot the Bengals? They win one game and now they are considered the 4th best team in the NFL.

mheisig 09-12-2007 12:21 PM

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

I've got no problem with where we are, but the Cowboys at #5? Yeah they put up 45 points, but against a lousy defense, and they also allowed 35 points. That hardly warrants jumping UP three spots to #5 in my book.

I think the Ravens are a little suspect too. They lost and turned the ball over 6 times, that's a miserable showing.

Gmanc711 09-12-2007 12:50 PM

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

I'm not too upset about where were ranked, theres a few teams above us that shouldnt be....and I dont think you should ever go DOWN after a win.....

and not to say they should be under us...but how over-rated can the Cowboys get...Win or Loss for crying out loud they gave up 35 points.

JDALY27 09-12-2007 01:25 PM

Re: ESPN Power Rankings

ESPN'S Power Rankings are bogus. Who cares about where ESPN thinks we rank? What does it matter? Why are they comparing AFC and NFC teams under one ranking? Its retarded and we know they don't respect us so why even read them.

Because we're all bored at work that's why!!

It does matter how they won...that's how power rankings are made. They won by a fluke injury to a key player on the Jags...had they had Scobee (or carried two kickers) then the Titans would have lost that game.
The Titans are overrated, and Vince Young (now that Vick is out of the league) is THE most overrated player in the entire league. He threw for only 78 yards and an int last week yet people are still wanting to exhault him. The won't even win 8 games this year.

Looking at the rankings with an unbiased eye, I reckon 19th is too high and Fox's 24th is about right.

They are on crack. Arizona looked like shazam and they are ahead of us. Miami will be no worse than 8-8. They are a good team that fell apart the way we did last year. Our defense has gone from 31st to at least 15th. Our offense should only be better with Portis and Campbell having another year. They are idiots.
