Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
I know the bears are heavy favorites....however, with NO looking shaky in week one, who do you think is going to be the #2 team in the NFC if not #1.
It's very difficult to choose after week 1, because in my opinion week 1 don't mean S*** but take a shot anyway. I'll say the panthers will bounce back with a stronger running game, talented defense...weaker division, and a determined Delhomme Redskins are my sleeper of course |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Because its the NFC, its not like one team will surprise and the rest will perform as expected. A lot of turnover will hapoen each year. However:
Green Bay could win 11 games Carolina could win 10 games San Francisco could win 9 games We could win 10 games Arizona has a chance to be .500 Not sure if any of that, save Green Bay, is really surprising, but all those teams should do better than "expected". Which basically means that pundits should stop being so surprised and change their projections. But they never will. Yes! Shameless media dig! |

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Looks like another year of atleast 3 AFC teams being better than the best NFC team. How boring.

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
The Panthers & us may be on parallel paths. We both had high expectations last year, only to fall way short. This year we both have a lot of the same starters on the field & have made some adjustments too.
I think a team that will challenge Chicago for that div. is the Vikes. A strong run game & D is enough to get 8-9 wins in the nfc. If T. Jackson improves they could get a couple more & win the division. I see Chicago falling on hard times at some point, they lost a couple starters on D & they can't go on w/Rex like he is. Look for them to slip to 8 or 7 wins. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Surprise good team: Minnesota because of Adrian Petersen.
Surprise middling team: Atlanta won't be as bad as everyone expects. Surprise bad team: Tampa is going to bite cornflakes. Darkhorse bad team: Cowboys let down America and finish 5-11, replacing us as America's most valuable team and replacing our position in the cellar of the NFC East. Darkhorse good team: Giants. Every time in recent memory that anyone predicted doom and gloom for them they outperformed, got every lucky break possible, then choked in their final post-season game. The exception to this that comes to mind is the Ray Handley era. Looking back five years from now though, maybe what could be the final year of the Tom Coughlin era will remind people and have them longing for --Ray Handley. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
give me 3 weeks and I tell you it's to early
|
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
panthers look like they could do really well this year.
seahawks look like they're back to form. GB is better than expected, but still not very good. vikes ARE good as long as peterson and the OL can click like that. atlanta is going to be very very bad. tampa will be a little better than last year, but still not good. SF looks like they've improved a bit, but not nearly as much as their payroll might indicate. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
I got my money on Carolina as a big sleeper ATM.
|
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Way too early to even begin conjecture of this nature. Why? It is only week 1 and for the most part almost all the teams, but the 3 top AFC contenders, played subpar ball. Minnesota played very well in week 1, but it is week one. 16 teams are undefeated, can't say who is dominant after one lousy week.

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
after 1 week.....Houston :)

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
San Francisco. I think they might make the playoffs.

Really? I'm not at all sold on QB Alex Smith, he looks like a mid-round pick, not the #1 overall. A lot of people are talking about them, but I don't see it. |

Based on last week he still has a long way to go. I said this in another thread earlier in the week, I think the loss of Norv could cause him to take a step back this year. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
I agree with the Devil--Houston.
Btw, I just move to Houston--got a job here at UH (go cougs...). Any skinsfans down here? (Gotta change my location and sig...) |

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Surprise team? The Giants. I knew they'd suck, I didn't think they'd swallow.
|
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Nice Coggs. But I will say that the Bears SUCK to me. If not for Hester and a cheap illegal procedure call, they would be 0-2.

it is funny though.

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
San Francisco. I think they might make the playoffs.
I'm not sure that would be a surprise.
If they win their division by more than two games, then I'd be a bit shocked. I see them as a good team, great defense, but still a few offensive parts away from being big time. |
Nice Coggs. But I will say that the Bears SUCK to me. If not for Hester and a cheap illegal procedure call, they would be 0-2.
Huh? They were playing the Chiefs.
They had double their score. It wasn't even close. They may not be as good as last year, but they are still going to win ten plus games. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
I agree the Bears aren't near as good as they were last year mainly because they let Thomas Jones go. Honestly if they weren't in the NFC they wouldn't be in the playoffs, but you could really say the same about most NFC teams.

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
how about the saints, no one surprised they are 0-2
|
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
The Detroit Lions there I said it. They are this years Saints.
|
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
I really thought the Panthers...but they got killed by the Texans.

The Panthers have been missing something ever since they got rid of Stephen Davis |

I thought the Bucs would be the last team to win a game this year. Never imagined they'd beat the Saints. I can't believe the Rams are 0-2. |

A load in their pants? LOL. Davis was overrated for them. He had a great season in 03 (played with a chip on his shoulder) then sucked in 05 (12 td's, but a 3.0 YPC). |

Someone who can do that in the Redzone and goal line. They have to throw too much and are too reliant on Steve Smith. They are seriously in need of a consistent running game. |

I don't disagree with you. I think they are afraid to use Williams like that, and Foster is too fragile. I also feel after Smith, they are slim pickens. |

Absolutely. Don't worry...in another week or two Foster will get hurt. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
Matt Millen, John Kitna and the Lions. Surprise so far. Don't let the 2-0 start fool ya. I'll be shocked if we see the 10 wins or a playoff birth. I still don't believe...

Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
In this order.
Arizona San Fran And Green Bay. |
Re: Who is the surprise team in the NFC in 2007
I have a bet that the Saints don't do any better than 8/8 so I'm not too surprised with their play. I'd say the Skins but I'm not surprised they beat the Finns and after they beat Philly people will start to take some notice. The group of guys I hang out with playing golf on Saturdays is very split up with who they like as a team. We have a few Dallas, Eagles fans who act like we have no chance this year and the Eagle fan is like who do you have on your team who is any good. I just keep my mouth shut and will wait until we beat them to say "an a$$ whipping from a bunch of no names". If asked if Green Bay would be 2/0 a couple of weeks ago I would have said no way maybe 1/1.
