Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
If I could give 2 game balls to any two players, I'd give the first to Jason Campbell. Although JC threw a pick and didn't light up the Eagles, he played well, particularly when it mattered most. I'd give my second game ball to Rocky McIntosh. Rocky just seems to be all over the place and, in just two games, has 21 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 FF. If Fletcher is our defensive leader, McIntosh appears to be the defensive playmaker.
I thought about giving a game ball to Suisham or Frost, if for no other reason than it has been a long while since we've had a reliable kicker or punter in D.C. But, neither had an outstanding night. I'd like to give a game ball to a member of the secondary, but no one player stood out; the secondary simply played a great game as a unit. Who would you give your game balls to? Sorry, but it would be really awkward to lay out every possible combination of two players for the poll. Please just vote for the player or coach who most deserves a game ball. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Man i can tbelieve Campbell missed that pass to Santana, my god he had 20 yards on the eagles :(. But I agree Campbell made some nice passes today but i liked the way laundry layed the wod on that last 4th down.

Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Went with other because I couldn't decide--the D as a whole, JC, Laron, CP, a total team effort, as they say. Not perfect, by any means, but a solid team win on the road.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I went with Jason Campbell, he didn't have a great game but he made plays when he needed to and was overall very effective back there, despite the fact that it was his first time playing on national t.v. on monday night. Did you see the way the NFLN were talking about him afterwards? I think our young quarterback just gained a hell of a lot of media exposure after tonight.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Campbell all the way. He looks like we FINALLY have a QB to build around. He made mistakes but also made HUGE plays when needed. His scrambling and mobility was just beautiful and his long pass to Moss was right on the money as was the TD to Coooooley.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I'd have to say for all-around good gameplay JC. He really came out of his shell this game.
But the gamesaver ball had to go to Landry Who knows what kinda havoc could've ensued if Curtis caught that pass. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Andy Reid, for calling that TO at the end of the 2nd half. If he doesn't call the timeout JC doesn't throw the TD.

i wouldn't have said portis at first. i know he had a td, but he had limited yards, but then i remembered his effort on that int to try and knock the ball loose. noone has jc's back like cp. and noone in this league brings it play for play like he does. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I gotta give it to JC. He did everything that was needed and did it well.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
That was a JC comming out party. We just put the nation on Noitce!
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Rocky, as a representative of a defense that allowed no TDs to the Eagles for the first time in... I don't know how long.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
JC managed the game very nicely! The defense played GREAT!
Can't forget nice coaching job! :) |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
It was a good team effort on both sides of the ball, if I had to single out one guy it would be Pete Kendall who looked like he had been playing guard for the Skins for years. What a great pick-up he was.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I would say the ball goes to JC. Two weeks in a row he's had to play a close game. I know he's not really a rookie, but last season was a mess, and he's really getting tested early to keep his composure. He came out right after the pick, and had a good drive. I'm not mad about the pick, but when Santana was wide open 40+ yards down the field and he over threw him......RRrrrrrrr.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Gotta go with JC. He made some key plays and kept his poise all night long. Huge win for a young QB to go on the road in the division and come out on top. Big step forward for Campbell. Big.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Gotta be Saunders. He called a great game, and gave JC the opportunities to build up his confidence. JC did a very good job, but if Norv is calling that game, JC gets hammered.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Had to pick 'Other' on this one. While I loved watching JC keep his composure, I already expected that type of performance out of him. I really felt that Laron Landry, as a rookie, played lights out. He looked like a veteran safety out there making a game-ending hit on Curtis.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I gotta say we honestly won this game because of JC's play. I think this was a game where his mistakes held us back from blowing them out but his contributions basically won the game for us. Several deeps balls thrown well and a great TD plus a few keep it alive plays plus the big scampers were what won the game. Oh and our D too.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
JC, no doubt. This was a huge win for this team, and although Im really really worried about the O line, Im gonna just soak this up for at least 2 days. It is so nice to have a QB capable of anything.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I went with Moss on this one because he ABUSED the philly secondary and cured his case of the drops (mostly) from last week. He also had a few crucial catches on third down. With Randle El on the sidelines, he was our only deep threat and he kept the Eagles honest.
Good arguments for Campbell and the overall D though. And Portis with that hit. Just a great overall game for our team to build on. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I'm developing a man crush on Campbell due to his ability and pocket presense, but if I can only give one game ball, I have to give it to Coach Gibbs. As much as I chastise him for sitting on leads and taking field goals over touchdowns; I loved the call at the end of the half when the Eagles were trying to ice Suisham. The fact that Gibbs made them pay for giving them a free timeout was effing beautiful.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
JC without question. Quite the peak at things to come.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I think last night was total team effort. There really is too many players that had a good game, but i'll mention as many as i can think of:
Rocky: what, 9 tackles JC: played a good game Sean T: very nice game Laron: good game + the game winning play+ 1/2 sack Carlos Rogers: nobody mentioned him, but he made a number of nice tackles and played great coverage all night The whole o-line: protected very well Rock Cartwright: he's a pretty kick returner Special Teams has been real good Gibbs and Saunders: or whoever was calling the plays, I loved the play calling for the most part. I loved the call to Moss in the fourth qtr even though JC missed it. Great call on the screen to Betts too. I was wondering when we would call a screen... |

Carlos Rogers is a great tackler and does not get the credit for his toughness. Taylor is flying around and looks really solid out there making sure nothing breaks open. Did anybody see Mike Seller steam roll over Dawkins in the first half? That guy sets the tone for the entire team he is tough as nails. We are just more physical and that takes its toll. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
i also have to give it to Jason. He played well under pressure, made correct reads mostly, threw the ball where it needed to be except once and led our team to victory.

Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
funny what a little mobility and a good arm and great decisions can do! Unlike Brunell, JC has a little of all of these characteristics. He did not play great but good enough to win. I voted for JC.

As for Carlos Rogers I am a little cold on him but he has that bend don't break type of play...and tonight he did not break! |

Unfortunately the trade off is poor hands and adequate coverage skills. He's going to disappoint you sometimes but be assured he's upholding his share of the defense. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
That was a coming out party for Jason Campbell. All the analysts were impressed with his poise and ability to execute under pressure. He obviously needs to improve his accuracy and touch but he demonstrates traits that some quarterbacks never obtain.
Even though I'm pumping up Campbell's play, the win was a total team effort and there were a lot of game balls to go around. The offensive line play was excellent, especially considering losing the entire right side of the line. The defensive line pressure was good. It wasn't spectacular but it forced a few hurried throws by McNabb and generated a couple of coverage sacks. The secondary was outstanding. I was critical of the Redskins drafting Landry but I'm starting to see the light. Taylor and Landry is one hell of a one-two punch. Come across the middle if you dare. BAM!!!! Body bags!!!!!! |

Leave Norv alone. He's got enough problems right now. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I'd give it to GW. He's got the defense playing great. When JC threw the pick it was HUGE to hold them to a FG.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Does anyone realize that if Campbell had completed that pass to Moss that his QB rating would have been around 95?
However I'm going to give a gameball to the front seven for getting after McNabb like theres no tomorrow. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
No question...Campbell.
He showed me a lot last night. Sure he missed Santana, but he does well with the long ball. Had a couple drops and didn't let it rattle him. What impressed me most is the fact that he can scramble with the best of them, but understands this is a pocket passer game, and only uses his legs as a last resort. He needs to work on his shorter passes, and this kid could be a hall of famer in the future. Very impressive! |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Cornelius Griffin. I thought he played even better than he normally does.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Gotta be Campbell he made some great throws last night and a few nice ones that should have been caught. I liked the way he was able to convert on a lot of third downs, specifically the play to Yoder where he escaped the pocket and still had the presence of mind to drop it off to his TE for the yardage. That play was great.
He also made a few nice runs and the pass to Cooley was a thing of beauty for the TD. I hope he keeps this up and connects with Santana next week. |
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
I'm going to have to give it to Gregg Williams, the defensive secondary played amazing tonight and that is really what got us the win.
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Gregg Williams gets my vote. To hold the Eagles out of the endzone on MNF in their home opener is outstanding. I'm thrilled with the D. Three sacks too!
|
Re: Redskins-Eagles Game Balls
Jason, he is a young QB with few starts playing on MNF with thousands and thousands of fans yelling and he made the needed plays. Oh, and it was Philly in there house.
