Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Is this an upgrade over Harrington?
|
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Not really, he might be better than Harrington but not by much. I do think he will be starting for them though by week 5.

Of course it is. I think Leftwich is better than Garrard. It was just personal with Del Rio. But he had better have a o-line in front of him cause he can't move around too well. |
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Hmmm ... Leftwich should last about 3 games or so, then get he'll get injured again. He's the Taylor Jacobs of quarterbacks.
|
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Leftwich is a big upgrade at least he has had a winning season before. I believe Harrington had none.

Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Leftwich is not that bad of a quarterback. He's just immobile which leads to him taking big shots. If you block for him, he'll pick you apart. He throws a great deep ball and can gun it on the intermediate routes. He's also tough enough to play through some nicks and he's a pretty good leader.

ATL News Alert: "This just in, after the recent signing of Byron Leftsandwich, all area Atlanta Krispy Kreme stores are in lock-down mode until further notice...STAY TUNED."

Then why does he miss so much time every year? 2006 - missed 10 games 2005 - missed 5 games 2004 - missed 2 games 2003 (rookie year) - missed 1 game He hasn't completed a full season YET. I don't understand why people think so much of him. His career completion rate is just 58% while averaging just 196 YDs/gm, with 51 career TDs (avg 12 a year) and 37 INTs and he loses a lot of fumbles. I don't even want him as our backup even if he WAS able to stay healthy. So, does he get #7? :D |
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
This isn't Pete Kendall at guard. A lot of fans don't understand that you can't just throw a QB on the field with one week in the offense. Should be at least three weeks before we see Leftwich take the field. Even then their offense will look like something you would see in the preseason.

Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Before week one started I was sure that the Falcons would be smart enough to grab him at QB. These idiots waited two weeks after Joey Harrington misfired away.

I think there are financial savings if you wait until after the first game. I could be wrong, but I think if he's signed before the first game, you have to pay him what he is owed under his contract with Jax. If you wait, you can pay the minimum. I thought that was why we waited until after the Dolphins game to sign Caldwell. |

I think that's exactly right. Plus, from what I hear, Leftwich was holding out for the best deal out there. I don't that he got the best deal, though. I just know that he supposedly had a bit of a "I don't need to sign with anyone if I don't want to" attitude. |
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
From BAD to BAD. No improvement here, this year is toast for the falcons!
|
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
I still honestly don't believe the Falcons would have been very good even if they had Mike Vick. We all saw how they ended that season last year. The way they played in the beginning looked like they were Super Bowl contenders. Then all of a sudden the real Falcons football team showed up.

I think deep down they want to earn the right to draft Brian Brohm. |
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
People don't like Leftwich because of his size, but he has above league average mobility. He's even pretty good at running and making people miss in the open field, which understandably, he doesn't have many chances to do.
Leftwich will develop into a great QB if he can ever put together a full season, which is far from a guarentee. He definately has a throwing style that puts him directly in harm's path. |
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Yeah, IF he can put together a whole season. I haven't watched or heard much about Atlanta this year but I don't think their line is pretty good. He is going to be getting hit. He has a tendency to get hurt.

That should work out well for them (getting the #1 pick). They really do have to plan for a future without Vick. |
Re: Report: Leftwich to Falcons
Haha, that would go over well with the players. "Ok guys we are aiming to get the #1 draft pick this year so lets try not to win." Either way I don't think they will be good for at least another couple years.
