Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I seen guys at a local watering hole and everywhere yesterday wearing their Burgundy and Gold. Heck some I didn't even know were Redskins fans but now they got a brand new sweatshirt or dug something out of their closet.
I live 20 miles South of DC and yes there are a lot of Skins fans but not as many as now are blooming burgundy. If we lose a couple they'll be throwing their stuff back in the closet. I rock my gear win or lose. Heck after a loss I head to the local pub to take my fair share of abuse...cus I will abuse yer Team when we win. Just a local observation is all. Anyone else notice the same thing? Hail Redskins! peace to you guys mike <>< ~ This is a rare sighting of me posting in this upper forum. |
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Everyone at my college has been supporting them from game 1. I would agree that if they started losing you wont see as many but to start they're there!

Nope, still the same old blue and silver in Oklahoma. Damn rednecks. |
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I completely agree SBF. Some skins fans only break out their gear when they do well and I think its so lame. I wear my gear all the time and both my wife and I's cars both have skins plates that we have had for years. I hate those fairweather people that only wear it when they are doing well. Don't be a closet fan. I don't think anyone on this forum fits this description. HTTR.

Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I live in Atlanta, a Redskins bloom is a rare sight for me.
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I wast just in Atlanta last weekend, didn't see a Skins or a Falcons jersey, no surprises. Where I live I don't see to many but I have heard from my friends that plenty of closet Redskins fan are starting to show up in NOVA.

Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
No problems here in Austin, TX with seeing burgundy and gold except when I sport it!

You got another compadre here. I just moved from Baltimore about 4 months ago, but I was in enemy territory there too, so what else is new? |
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Living in Harrisburg, I'm surrounded by Eagles fans. What's really great is NOT SEEING any Eagles hats, shirts or other Birds garbage since the start of the season. 0-2 will do that to them, especially when they see it might be getting worse!
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Haven't noticed a bloom of anything here in Norfolk. I've noticed that when people find out I'm a skins fan, it isn't all bad things they are saying. "Your QB looks sharp", "Your Defense is Nasty", "Redskins?????, them boys can hit though".
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I think early in the season you ALWAYS have more people supporting the team, as the season goes on and typically losses pile up, interest wanes. I always wear my jersey the day before the game.

Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I don't know about NOVA but in Maryland at least people have been wearing skins gear from day 1. U can tell there was a lotta optimism with regards to this season because there were a bunch of jerseys on even during preseason. Around the Univ of MD campus (even though there is usually an abundance of effeminate Raven's purple) I saw a lotta burgundy and gold. I happened to be in a baltimore bar for the 3rd preseason game and it seemed like there were more rowdy Skins fans than ravens ass clowns. A very reassuring sight.

I used to live in Harrisburg. Find out where Chris James (93.5 WTPA fm) is going to be on gameday and you can bet the Skins will be on! Even if the Steelers fan club is present, he always made sure the game was on one of the tv's! |

Call it the Shrinkage of the Green. |
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
It happens all the time. Happened in 2005 too. It's all Garnet and Black down here in Columbia, SC though. These people freaking love Steve Spurrier, go figure.
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Yeah, I live in South Carolina and last year you would barely see a Gamecocks jersey and Clemson fans would be everywhere. Now all you see is Gamecocks jerseys and people who honestly think they can win the SEC. I really don't like fair-weather fans.
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Lots of Skins jerseys at my school (Mason) on Tuesday. Actually, I saw one guy wearing a Portis jersey that I know for a fact I had seen in the preseason wearing a Heath Miller jersey. Busted.
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I'm not a gear guy but my Skins flag fly's with the good and the bad. I do sport my skins hat on the weekends but that's about it.
|
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I was wearing my portis throwback the other day in the bar/pool hall in the town i live moved to last year which is 30 mins north of DALLAS and some guy came up to me and said "Can i shake your hand?" he said "not too often do you see people down here with good taste like yours" I of course shook his hand, and had to ask him if he was from up "north" like me, and his answer was " no, i was just born with good taste thats why i love the redskins and hate the cowboys" which floored me bc. i was expecting all sorts of people to be talking trash (which is 1/2 the reason i wore it out to begin with) but the only person the entire night to say something to me about it was that guy... not a single cowboys fans said a word which was kinda dissapointing.

Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary here in Kansas. There's a pretty good mix of fans from different teams because it is a college town and military area (I'm Army). The majority here is KC Chefs fans including most of my friends around here. There are a few Skins fans though and I make it a point to approach them and talk Redskins stuff when I see one.

Years back I had tickets to the Redskins vs Dallas game here in DC and my boss decided to send me to Dallas that weekend. Grrrrrr! So I gave my tickets to my Dad so he could take my son Elijah to the game. So I'm in Dallas wearing my Redskins gear and not a soul said a word to me. Heck I had to ask them and 1 guy said they really hate the Giants the most and that "we" the Redskins "made up the rivalry". I still hate them and don't care what he said. lol |

Last year we were in the pub for the Monday Night game, he was wearing his Aikman jersey, and I had on my Cooley jersey. You should have seen his face when Brunell threw the first bomb for a TD, and it was even better on the second one. Talk about stunned, as he was talking mad shit the whole game. Priceless! |
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
you got a lot of guys who wear either cowboys or redskins shirts depending on the success of the redskins.....and you all know who I am talking about

Cowboys vs. Indians.....it makes sense....plus JKC wouldnt let black players on the team and dallas would...that created some heat. Dallas fans just seem really ignorant |

Really? Haven't noticed that anywhere I've been. It's either Dallas or Redskins...not both. Unless they just are casual fans of football "oh I like both teams, I wish they could both win". |

You mean the year before last as that happened in 05. Last year we won our game against them with the blocked FG and Taylor returned the ball like 30 yards and they tacked on another 15 for a face mask. We kicked a FG and won the game. |

Yep, 05...my mistake. |
Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
I was told the history of the Rivalry goes back to before Dallas had a Team and wanted to get into the NFL. This was in the late 1950's and the Redskins Owner Preston Marshal didn't want them in and was going to Vote no.
The Cowboys found that Corrine Griffith the wife of Redskins Owner Preston Marshall had not copyrighted the song that she wrote called.... HAIL TO THE REDSKINS. They quickly did and basicly blackmailed the Redskins into voting to allow them into the NFL which they did to get the rights to the song back. BASTARD Cowbuckers! I can't site my source on this. Sorry. Believe it or Not? peace mike |

They only beat Georgia about once every seven years so, it's hard to blame them. Clemson is still better, though. They don't refuse admission to any NCAA qualified athletes (and probably several that aren't). |

I don't know, I mean I love to beat Dallas and hate to see them win, but I can at least respect Dallas fans and expect the same from them. Not like Eagles fans, those classless goons... The G-Strings, does anyone really even care about them, one way or another? |

Re: Anyone Else Notice the Burgundy Bloom?
Ive had it out w/ a few cowboys fans down here so the rivalry is very much alive on their part, but i do agree Zimmerman they fans for dallas are much more tolerable than Philly fans... thats one thing we do agree on that we both really REALLY hate Philly, but i alwyas have to say... well, when Philly is playing Dallas i root for Philly bc. i hate dallas more, bc. thats the way i was raised. And about half the time people tell me they would rather see us beat philly than philly beat us, of course the other half is the other way around so its kind of a push.
