Joey Harrington
I think there are a lot of people that dogged him that now need to give him some props.
983 yards, 4tds, 2ints, and a 71.2% comp %. 98.2 QB rating. He's 9th in yards, and 4th in comp%. He's 10th in 1st downs for qb's, He's one of the hottest QB's in football. 584yards and 4 td's in last 2 games. |
Re: Joey Harrington
Those stats are pretty darn good, but that guy has been a massive bust as the number three overall pick. He deserves no props yet IMO. Maybe if he actually keeps it up for a season and or the Falcons actually win more than they lose.

That's not gonna happen, and it won't be Harrington's fault. The Falcons have very poor talent overall. |
Re: Joey Harrington
Falcons are doomed for years to come unless they get some resolve and help from Goodell. If they wait for Vick they will pay the price. Fortunately we can wait til December to hear anymore about him. Hopefully for his sake...

Re: Joey Harrington
You are judged by win & losses. The ONLY way your getting any "props" in this league is to WIN.
|
Re: Joey Harrington
isnt it all about wins? he still has the lowest win percentage, of all time, with qbacks with at least 25 starts.( i think thats what the stat was)
|
Re: Joey Harrington
I feel dirty for picking him up in one of my leagues, but he is playing well right now and until Brees gets it going I can't afford to keep getting zero or negative points at QB.
|
Re: Joey Harrington
So Brees is screwing you well too Matty ?
He is SO the weak link on my team. |
Re: Joey Harrington
Harrington wasn't the only QB bust of that draft. Patrick Ramsey and David Carr were also selected in the 1st round that year. So many factors go into a QB successfully transitioning from college to pros, and much of it is falling into an offensive system that is a good fit. Perhaps Bobby Petrino is what Harrington needed all along.
|
Re: Joey Harrington
oh god. i hope we aren't getting into that again

Re: Joey Harrington
You are judged by win & losses. They will keep switching QBs to try to find a "winner" without realizing the problem lies elsewhere.

Re: Joey Harrington
oh god. i hope we aren't getting into that again
Dmek - my point is that landing in a system that fits is often just as important as a QBs ability. Spurrier's lack of QB protection in his system was probably the worst thing that happened to Ramsey. Same can be said for Carr's porous O-line in Houston. I'm very intrigued to watch Harrington's development in Petrino's system after back-to-back excellent games. Perhaps they're an aberration, or perhaps we're about to witness the resurrection of a career.
|
Re: Joey Harrington
No defense for Carr now, I know Carolina doesen't have the best offensive line, but it was better than the one in Houston. Anyone see the Carolina game last weekend? They got smacked, and Carr wasn't moving the ball at all, his receivers dropped a few, but he wasn't that great himself.

i look at that alittle differently. Matt Shaub seems to be doing just fine behind basically the same line that almost got David Carr killed. in this league, its all about decision making. and how fast you can make them |

Prior to that, Charley Casserly did very little to give Carr an NFL quality OL. That said, I would take Schaub over Carr, but I would take Campbell over either of them.

I wouldnt write David Carr off either. He might have landed on a really good oppertunity in Car., and my heart will never write Ramsey off. |

I drafted Stephen jackson and Brees in my 1st and 3rd rounds.....WTF

You also have to take into account that Atlanta was a team built for Vick, a mobile QB who could evade the blitz. They used a light versatile line under Alex Gibbs to help in the running game which isn't exactly ideal for a pocket passer. Also though they i invested a lotta picks in WR's, none of them have panned out thus far so its not like Harrington is exactly surrounded with talent. Given all that and the fact that Petrino is a new coach, I think you can't really judge him on wins and losses this year (maybe next year). I mean imagine if ppl had done that for JC based on the games he started last year. In this case, you have to go on his stats and his overall play/feel for the game. Unfortunately when it becomes clear later this year that Vick's career in Atlanta is over, I think Falcons fans will be too impatient and will call for a big name FA or draft pick to address the QB situation. Too bad for Joey. |
Re: Joey Harrington
lets wait till the end of the year before crowning him.

Agreed. If Joey has those same types of numbers at the end of the year, I will eat crow (if I am not dead from a heart attack). As others have noted, it's a long season. The only game I saw with him was in Week 1, when he threw 2 picks, got sacked 6 times, and had a QB rating of 61.8 Granted, he had a few nice games since then, but we can't crown him off of 2-3 appearances - especially when you consider his track record. |

I figured that Byron Leftwich would be about ready to take his place about now.

Maybe that's what is motivating him. It's not like he had anyone to push him anywhere else. |

I'll bet that leash will be very short though, if Harrington has a real bad game, I think they'll put Leftwich in just for the curiosity sake of it. Harrington best keep it up! |
Re: Joey Harrington
Harrington had a real bad game. Way to throw a pick for a seventy yard TD to give the other team the margin of victory. The 140 passing yards was also quite impressive.

Have any Pro-Bowl level QB's come out of that draft? |

The QB with the most success from that draft is probably Ronald Curry....who is, of course, a WR for the Raiders now. |

What about Julius Peppers, Roy Williams (SS), Dwight Freeney, Jeremy Shockey, Javon Walker and Ed Reed? Oh yeah, and Portis in the 2nd round? |

Except when fans think that their team is winning in spite of you, rather then because of you. The Bears last year during Rex Grossmans second half collapse is an example of that. |

In only applies when people feel it applies. Vince Young sucked today, but will get props for "winning". He did his best to lose, and he will get credit for the win. Sad. Grossman led a team to the super bowl and he's considered one of the worst QB's in the league. |

I picked him up on my fantasy team but started JC. Harrington will be on waivers faster than Leftwich eats a sandwich. |

Well the Harrington era appears to be coming to a close in Atlanta
