A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
We made a lot of mistakes in the game, were 2 starting receivers short and still kicked some ass. Great Defense and Jason Campbell just keeps getting better. Forgot to add even Mr. bad case of Vaginitis (Brandon Lloyd) caught a ball.

This is basically a duplicate thread...but hey, some people accused others of not being around when we win...guess they are around.
What a great game, and great adjustment of changing their play calling!!! |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
GREAT GAME!!! Complete in all phases I thought....not quite sure why they had Thrash running the bomb but whatever.....GREAT GAME!!!!
|
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
GREAT GAME!!! I throughly agree with you. Dominant in all phases. Redskins Football is back. AND who said we can't run the ball?
|
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
co-sign on everything mentioned. and the dude that got layed out on the Thrash return will see Sean Taylor in his sleep for a week (on second thought, he never saw him to begin with, lol)

He'll feel that hit for at least a week. LOL. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
Big props needs to go to special teams and defense. I think the biggest difference from the second half of the Giants game to today wasn't so much the offense as the defense. They were on fire today. True they had several takeaways the last game, but I think that was more because Eli was just handing them the ball.

No doubt the defense played amazing. All aspects of the team were better this week. Offense, defense, special teams, coaching...it was all better. Maybe Gibbs getting pissed fired us up. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
J C is a rising star and if we can continue to create to's we are going 2 be hard 2 beat!!!
A R E is a beast!! |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
What a great, impressive win today! I think that we'll be a team to contend with this season, and Campbell is only going to get better! All those people who were standing on the ledge last season can finally come off now!

Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
Great win, but I had a funny feeling this would happen. We played solid ball and out played and out hit the Lions. Our coaching staff out smarted Martz. I think we exposed the Lions as being more smoke and mirrors than anything. Look for them to fold in the coming weeks. Like I said in the other Lions thread, it will only take one hit on Kitna to bury them. If we take GB next weekend, oh boy!!!!!!!! If we take them out we are truly the real deal and a genuine SB contender. This game was a nice stepping stone, but next weekend will be the real test.
|
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
Kudos to the coaches and players for coming to play their most complete game since Dallas in December '05. Mike Sellers played like a man possessed - I'm glad that the Danny locked him up to a contract at the end of last season.

As much as a win at GB would be amazing...I still want to see them win tonight before I think they are all that. The true test is Dallas...if we cant beat them, we aren't a true playoff team, remember, we still need to beat the Gmen first...it may still take some time for the offense to jell. Our defense is suceptable to teams that both run and pass, such as the giants and the cowboys...the eagles and detroit are passing teams and the dolphins just suck. Im not trying to be a downer cause we kicked some serious butt today...which was a VERY NICE EXPERIENCE!! but to suggest we are a SB contender is a bit crazy |
What do you think changed in the play calling today??
Just curious.
For instance...4th and 2, and we pass. Or how about our first drive in the second half...8 passing attempts, 4 rushes...a TD (pass to Cooley). After a fumble by the Lions, the Skins pass to Sellers for a TD, then goes for two and passes. Just to name a few. We got away from conservative play calling and used the pass to set up the run...something I've been preaching for a while...and not only did we win, we killed them. |

I honestly didn't see a radically different game plan out there, just much better execution especially by Campbell who was very sharp. |

While the first half of the Giants game had a similar plan, the 2nd half was amazingly different...and I'll say it again...no one complained about the play calls in the first half of that game, it was the second half. If you really can't see the difference between the 2nd half vs the Lions and the 2nd half vs the Giants, I can't help you. It's GLARINGLY obvious. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
Not sure even why we are discussing this...we won plain and simple, and we kicked ass. Don't care how we won, just care that we did...I'm sure we'll all agree to that.
|
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
It's just funny that when we win, the play calling is somehow seen as aggressive or different than what we try to normally do.
All season long we've been just a play or two away from breaking some games wide open. I think it's no coincidence that Campbell had his best day of the year and was very accurate, and all of a sudden the offense is humming. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
This was a virtuoso performance by this team. They dominated every phase of the game. I love that they kept their foot on the gas. It was a great game.

Gameplan has been similar all year. Extremely stiff D is the difference between wins this year. Take away the Giants 2nd half and this is a top 3 D. Look at the past three years. More rushes = win. I think going on 4th down is evidence that Gibbs has confidence in the D to shut down anyone and wants to prolong every drive as long as possible. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
Our first full drive of the 2nd quarter against the Giants was a 6 play (3 run, 3 pass) drive that resulted in a TD pass to Cooley. Not dramatically different from the start of this week's 2nd quarter (fewer plays though)
Also, in the 3rd quarter against the Giants we ran a total of 6 plays (not counting punts), including 4 passing plays...for a total of -2 yards. That can't all be on playcalling |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
playcalling consists of more than just calling runs or passes... direct snaps to portis? 4@2 quick pass, etc... there were adjustments in the playcalling. execution had a lot to do with it, and today we won the battles in the trenches, which is where the execution starts. If campbell has a minute to throw he will tear you apart... its nice.

Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
Enjoy the win today, but tomorrow this team needs to focus on the packers. Here's to gaining respect, one ass beating at a time.

Or, at least to control the ball more on offense when you see the Giants heating up on offense. They had gotten into a rhythm in that second half, and we kept giving them the ball back when their offense was hot. In retrospect, we should've controlled the ball more by running it more. You can't be all balls out aggressive with every team you go up against. There are going to be some teams that you want to play keep away from. The Lions today were a smoke and mirrors team that we exposed all day long. It's easy to be aggressive against teams like that. I would suspect that next week, if we get another double digit lead up on the Packers, we need to play ball controlled and keep Favre off the field. Brett can't beat us if he's sitting on the bench. You don't want to get into a shoot out with Bret Farve. |

Hell Of A Statement Game! |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
GREG WILLIAMS WAS a freaking genius today, he did no blitzing, completley taking the Lions out of there game plan, this plan may work against the packers, except they have a very good D
|
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
also on the down the note, which i know, we dont wanna tackle right now, to many damn turnover's we let slip away, against a great team, could cost us a win, if we get fumbles on the ground, we need to secure them....period

Yeah, throughout the game, I was noticing that. The ball was on the ground A LOT and we didn't grab it. But it's a good sign that we getting it loose, and we are getting some of them. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
i agree. it does mean alot, the turnover ratio. but right now the skins are generating the turnovers. which is a helluva sight better then last year

Great game? or THE greatest game? (for you Colbert Report fans out there) Seriously, this is the most satisfied I've been with the team in a LOONNNGG time and i'm gonna enjoy this win for a minute... Now, im not saying we are definitely gonna do this or definitely gonna do that (b/c things arent as good or bad as they seem), but it was VERY encouraging that we were able to plug backup guys into spots to replace injured starters before and during the game. We have proven that we are capable of putting points on the board and shutting down a potent offense. This will be especially important against teams like the Cowboys, Pats, and even Green Bay next week. On a related note, Green Bay is gonna be tough next week, especially after the way they lost last nite. It should be a very good game and I am looking forward to the opportunity to show that we can pull out a performance like this week against a better team on the road (at one of the hardest places to win). HAIL! |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
A very very nice win. I was pleased with the aggressive nature we showed in the 2nd half. Ya know its a good day if even Lloyd catches a pass.

Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
We got away from conservative play calling and used the pass to set up the run...something I've been preaching for a while...and not only did we win, we killed them.
No, we had a QB hit 70% of his passes. The Lions used the pass to set up the run. Our D played back and dared them to run. On D - how many guys did Detroit have on the line? I honestly don't know. Also, it seemed to me that many of our big plays came off play action. Even if the run got stuffed a few times, we kept at it and played off of it. I wouldnt say the play calling was more aggressive than it has been it the past. I would agree that both the passing and running game showed some more diversity. Seemed like more intermediate routes were run and, of course, the direct snaps. Watch for that in the future with the playaction pass to JC. (Ohhh here's one - direct snap to portis, who hands it ARE on a reverse who throws it to JC who was split out wide). Seriously, the play calling was simply not that much different than last week. On offense our QB played his best game ever, our defense played lights out ALL GAME- If we were able to make those statements about the Giants game, we would be 4-0. Seriously, has anyone broken down how Detroit's D was playing us? I didn't hear the commentators say anything about it during the game. I am supposing they played some version of the Cover 2. Did they have 7 or 8 in the box? Also what % of our offensive plays had 3 or WR's? Just curious. If it turns out that the majority of our snaps were from the spread offense or their D was playing us pass first - THEN i would concede the pass set up the run. But it seemed to me the offense was pretty much 2WR, 2TE type and the D was playing their front 7 right up on the line. That, to me, says run first both from how we play and what the other side feels they must stop. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
What do you think changed in the play calling today??
Just curious.
Old man let Al call the plays today. No way Gibbs/Buges would've called a quick slant on 4th and 2 (defining play of the game). Not to take any credit away from Gibbs for this win, but letting Al have a free hand (or a freer hand) worked well. |
Re: A thorough ASS WOOPING!!
That sounds like speculation. Al works around the clock with Joe to develop a scheme that will take advantage of our opponent. Joe uses what he thinks will work, while simultaneously taking recommendations from upstairs. that's my guess.
This weeks opponent could only be described as a wet paper bag. |

Not to take any credit away from Gibbs for this win, but letting Al have a free hand (or a freer hand) worked well.
I'm soooo tired of this line of patter. Like they didn't let Al call the plays all season long and all of last year? Why do you think this? Do you really think Joe Gibbs jumps into the headset relay between Al and JC and just calls some other play? Or that during a drive he tells Al to do something different? Or that he said to Al: look, I respect your playbook and all, but don't call this page or that page or that page? Here's another possibility: Al is calling the plays in the way he wants, given his consultation with the offensive staff and his knowledge of the players we have and the D we play. And some days it works well, and others it doesn't. I know that lots of us think JG is god, he can't be criticized or whatever (this is obviously an exaggeration, but you get the idea), but this idea that Al is god, and that the success is his but the failure isn't is also incorrect. |
