Interesting Packers Stat...
Hi everyone, this is my first thread so hopefully i wont get beat up too badly here. However, i was doing a little research getting ready for this sunday's game and found an interesting little tidbit that I haven't heard much talk about. All week we've heard about how great the Packers passing attack is, but what no-one has looked at, is the current rankings of the pass defenses Farve and the Pack have gone up against. Without further ado, this is what I found and the point being; I really like how our secondary matches up with this pass-first offense. It seems as if everyone is scared to say that maybe farve and the packers offense is over-rated, but I'll come out and say just that. Very similiar to detroit's record coming into last week's game.
the current pass-defense rankings of the team's the Pack have faced (by YPG).. week 1: Philly: Farve 206 yds (0 TD, 1 INT), philly ranks 21st week 2: NYG: Farve 286 yds (3 TD, 1 INT), nyg ranks 20th week 3: SD: Farve 369 yds (3 TD, 0 INT). SD ranks 27th week 4: Minn: Farve 344 yds (2 TD, 0 INT), Minn ranks 30th week 5: Chicago: Farve 322 yds (1 TD, 2 INT), Chicago ranks 26th Hail. |
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
impressive first blog, yeah....they could be overraded just like the lions....however, their defense does make up for much of the difference
|
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
overrated
|
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Yeah, but you could say that GB had a little bit to do with why those pass defense ratings are what they are. Goes both ways.
|
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Yeah, they had an effect on 20% of those teams ratings. That doesnt make the point invalid.
|
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Welcome, InGibbs....and good first!
Your correct, it is an interesting point. I to, like the way we match up. If we do our job, we may see a little of the Brett we love, with four or five int's HTTR |
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
fantastic stat and welcome. i wonder if you removed the games that the pack played against those teams, if it would significantly raise their ranking. I don't have a clue but with only 5 games one game can put down an average quite a bit. Regardless, we will see how they play against the #3 D

Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Good post. I think the test this week will be to see if Campbell and the offense can control the ball against a Packers defense that is the best group we've faced. In spite of these numbers, I still think we need to lean heavily on the ground game. This sure would be a nice week for Portis to get over the 100 yard mark. It's a lot easier to win road games if you don't have to throw much.

Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Anyone feel like showing us what the Lions first opponents pass defenses looked like?
|
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Excellent first post. Most regulars don't put that much effort into threads. Well done and welcome.
I echo the sentiments of the board. I think it is a telling stat, but a bit inflated because of what the Pack could have done to their D rankings. It is the whole issue of the direction of causality. Is X causing Y or vice versa. |

na, ive been here for a while. And i expend energy like that sparingly.

I don't believe I said the point was invalid. I'm simply saying that Green Bay helped to inflate those stats. |

Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
good first post, and welcome. i see more of the same defense the skins used against the lions. the packers run the west coast, with just about everything thrown underneath. getting pressure on Favre is a big key this week

Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
OK, NFL.com's rankings match mine.
Seriously, where'd you find those? :D NFL Stats: by Team Category We're ranked 8th in passing, not 15th. Eagles are 21st in pass D, not 12th. And so on... |
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Another interesting note: The Redskins haven't won at Lambeau Field since Oct. 23, 1988 -- final score, Skins 20, Pack, 17.

Yeah, but we don't play them often, so that 19 years looks worse than it really is. |
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Interesting stat, I just don't like the idea of tearing down an opponent's success to feel good about the redskins chances. That's underestimating the opponent and having a lack of respect for them. At least a couple of the Packers' opponents on defense have played great in past seasons and still employ the same scheme and have most of their personnel.
|
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Interesting stat indeed. The Skins D has given up a grand total of 2 TD passes all season. I like our chances even more after seeing the relative weakness of pass defenses that Favre has faced.

No one is tearing them down. They have a good offense, so far, despite the weak opponents. Their passing game is tops in the league and their running game is next-to-last, ranked #31. Our offense is in the top half of the league, more balanced with rushing and passing, doing fairly well in both. We have one of the top defenses in the league, FAR better than theirs (us 3rd, them 17th and surrender 60 more yards a game than us. Defense will decide the game and going by stats and the season so far, we have a BIG advantage, especially with their CBs not being healthy: Blackmon - out (foot), Harris - probable (Back), Woodson - probable (foot) |
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Well, when they did want to run the ball on the Bears last week they did a nice job, at least on their first couple of drives. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they came out trying to run on their first couple drives then start going over the top. Kind of the same thing they did with Chicago. We all know that Brett can throw, and he does get reckless with the ball. We are going to have to take advantage of every single errant pass he has and if they do pound it out then we will just continue what we have been doing all year.

Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
The main difference between the packers and lions offenses is the packers superior offensive line and the fact that farve is very tough to bring down. It helps that their center is out but I don't see our dline being able to harrass GB all day without the help of some blitzes. Should definitely still be a close game but I just don't see Farve putting up 300 yds through the air against our secondary.

Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
Follow-up:
week 1: Philly: Farve 206 yds (0 TD, 1 INT), philly ranks 21st week 2: NYG: Farve 286 yds (3 TD, 1 INT), nyg ranks 20th week 3: SD: Farve 369 yds (3 TD, 0 INT). SD ranks 27th week 4: Minn: Farve 344 yds (2 TD, 0 INT), Minn ranks 30th week 5: Chicago: Farve 322 yds (1 TD, 2 INT), Chicago ranks 26th week 6: Skins: Farve 188 yds (0 TD, 2 INT) = QB Rating of 43.5, Skins now rank 5th in nfl in pass defense at 179.4 ypg Can't blame our secondary or defense for this one, although a few more picks would have helped. |
Re: Interesting Packers Stat...
I mean our defense only gave up one touchdown anyway. It's depressing.

I recall Kelvin Bryant got the start at RB and had a career day for the Skins. |
