How can we pull it off?

Its great that we go a win, no matter how we did, but lets look into next week; how can we beat New England? What are the keys to our success?

Cowell 10-21-2007 09:12 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

I think we would be most successful if we just didn't show up at the stadium :).

But honestly, we need to pressure Brady to even have a chance. I think if we get Marcus Washington back our chances of beating the Patriots greatly go up. You know I hate to say this but we don't stand much of a chance, but neither does the rest of the NFL. The Patriots look like they are the best team assembled since the salary cap was implemented.

Re: How can we pull it off?

Somehow convince the NFL to change the game to 1pm and not tell the Pats so we can show up anf get a forfiet?

Re: How can we pull it off?

By resting Washington and Rabach I give us a chance, they did the smart thing. Next week you put McCardell into the mix, activate as many DB's as possible and make sure the hurt ones can play, if they can't, then bench them for the week. The key to this game is containing the WR's, Welker is the one to watch, he's their X-factor, we need to get the running game going, Cooley more involved. We need to play with intensity (treat this game like a playoff game). I seriously think that we have a chance, especially after a subpar game by our offense today.

Score points, lots of points! Attack! Attack! and attack some more. Randy Moss won't, can't, out jump ST and I'm sure ST will be playing his best game.

Re: How can we pull it off?

Maybe this has been our plan all along. To make the teams in the NFL think our offense is this weak, pitiful philosophy that can't score more than 14 points a game. Maybe we're holding off to unveil our true offense against New England? :D

Or maybe we'll bring our Redskinettes with us to New England and let them stretch and warm up in front of the Patriots? LOL!

Our o-line is going to have to play amazing, which I doubt will happen and we need to pressure the crap out of Brady.

I ask you, how do we plan to score against their D?

Re: How can we pull it off?

If we break Tom Brady on the first possession then I think we have a chance. Blitzing Brady may be a mistake but we definitely need to put the pressure on and make his pretty boy ass uncomfortable. We need to put up points as well from our O, no conservative bull shit air the ball out.

Cowell 10-21-2007 09:29 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

Ok we have to blitz Brady. Honestly this is how it works. Either we sit back in coverage and watch him pick us apart, or we blitz him and try to get some pressure in his face to throw off his rhythm.

Re: How can we pull it off?

I have no expectations to see the Skins win next weekend. But I do expect to see New England in a dogfight that they haven't yet seen this year.

I've already put in a bet with someone that we'll stay within 20 points.

Re: How can we pull it off?

Crush Brady's leg on a nasty sack ala Joey T, bring in McCardell and Caldewell to take over for Llyod and Moss and let the footballs fly nice and deep. Only way we have a chance in Foxboro.

We haven't seen that from Williams all year. Why would you think it will be any different next Sunday?

Then again, maybe Williams has been holding his best blitz packages all season long for this very game ...

Redskin 10-21-2007 09:31 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

Brady is an experienced QB the blitz has to be extremely successful to really work against him.

SouperMeister 10-21-2007 09:31 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

I believe that Taylor will make deep plays much more difficult for Moss. The guy who scares me is Welker killing us underneath and Watson deep down the middle of our 2 deep zone. We almost certainly will need to start in nickel given all of Brady's weapons.

On offense, I'd like to see us use 3 and 4 WR sets to spread the field. If Moss is still in his funk, Gibbs should give Lloyd a shot to stretch the defense. If the Skins don't approach 30 points this week, they will lose by 2 TDs or more. It's time to open up Saunders' 700 page playbook and trust Campbell to make plays. Campbell will have to play better than he did against Detroit for us to have a realistic shot in NE.

WE should go into every game as if it was a playoff game or at least with some intensity.

The only way we have a snowballs chance in hell is to play from behind.

Re: How can we pull it off?

You can't just Blitz Brady...its got to be a perfect blitz otherwise he'll pick you apart. We should do what we did against the Lions and the Packers and just hope for the best.

As for our O against their D...hey, stop with the dump off shit and go after them with everything you got (deep passes to the WRs and Cooley up the middle and on the side lines). I mean you got nothing to lose but a game you're probably going to lose if you keep playing the way you've been playing.

The only way we can win is if NE turns it over, or they stop playing at the current level they are playing at and we play our best.

Re: How can we pull it off?

Let Caldwell play DB and tell the rest of the D what Brady is audibling to.
If we can old the Pats to under 30 for the first time this year then the league will have to say we are the best D.

Meks 10-21-2007 11:44 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

i think we will have to be blitzing alot, while playing 2 safteys deep which can be hard with the quick slants they run over the middle.... tackling will be a huge factor for us, the pats wr's get alot of yac yards for td's i think if we play sound fundementally its a start... our running game if we can get it going that will be good, but i honestly think we need to pass, and pass deep more than run the ball this week... if our defense plays like they are capable and the pats only score 2-3 td's on offense we will have a real chance..

Rock Your Face 10-21-2007 11:49 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

Plain and simple: To stand any chance at all the offense has to get more than 5 first downs in the 2nd half. Not only would that keep Brady and Co. off the field, but it would hopefully keep the defense from getting as tired as they appeared to in the Giants and Cards games.

That and break Brady's leg.

Luxorreb 10-21-2007 11:58 PM

Re: How can we pull it off?

Bad weather would probably help us have a chance. I think if we can sustain drives and win the turnover battle we have a shot. Honestly we'll need something close to a miracle to get a win in Foxboro. So everyone pray ALOT!

skinsfan_nn 10-22-2007 12:21 AM

Re: How can we pull it off?

Keep drives movin which equals putting up points and Brady off the field, as much as possible. Our D will do there part.

Any given Sunday....IMO they haven't played a D with what we bring to the table.

GTripp0012 10-22-2007 12:27 AM

Re: How can we pull it off?

We have crazy good splits against No. 2 and No. 3 receivers this year.

You can go around complimenting Brady's historic performance in his first 7 games, and rightfully so, but the pressure is on Brady to keep it up against his toughest test yet. If we force him to be patient, can he keep himself from forcing it and turning the ball over?

To win this game, we are going to have to score a lot of points on offense, and to do that, we have to get the OL problem fixed. If Rabach plays, then I think we have a chance to do so.

Meks 10-22-2007 12:43 AM

Re: How can we pull it off?

meh, we have a legitiment shot either way. ... we just need the offense to click, and great defense, thats all... its a winnable game, we just have to play our best game of the season on both sides of the ball

Oh hell, we're pretty damn screwed...we're playing away against the #1 offense in the league assisted by the #3 defense in the league.

Ahem. If you're referring to NE's defense (as I believe you are), then you should know it is the #2 defense in the league.:silly:

But seriously, to have any hope of winning in NE Brady will have to go down to injury in the first quarter. I'm not saying I hope for it because that's just plain wrong, but it is the simple truth.

Re: How can we pull it off?

I'm going to sit down next Sunday to watch the game with no expectations....I think our defense will keep it close, I just dont know who's going to show up for the Redskins......and that right there is why the Pats are so good....We never know what Redskins team is going to show up in any given game/quarter/half/ect....The Patroits ability to show up and approach every single snap the same and be that good is very impressive...not too many teams in any sport can do that.

No, they're #3 after this weeks play...regardless, that's a pretty damn good D supporting the best O I've seen in a while.

Re: How can we pull it off?

I lay it all on our defense. Let our D line provide most of the pressure through out the game with a safty blitz sprinkled here and there. I expect the key is HARD hitting. Our secondary needs to lay the wood on the Pats receivers. We need to get in the receivers heads instead of Bradys. Bradys proven hes a true vet. Hes seen alot and beat most of it. We need to force the Pat receivers to flinch, drop some balls and stall some drives.

With our offense, we need to continue to stay with what we have been doing and cross our fingers, at least for the 1st half. It has shown it has been working the past few games. If our defense shows it can contain the Pat offense, I would show up in the 2nd half throwing the ball more. I honestly think this would catch the Pats off guard and allow 1 or 2 big plays. Enough to end this game. We have been perdictable in the 2nd half, this is the perfect game to finally buck this trend. If the Pats start getting ahead like the other teams they have played, then we will have no choice to air it out. Though I would expect the Skins to lose. The offense is not established enough to play the Pats game and expect to win.

Finally, we need the special teams to put in their two cents here. They have been play pretty good ball, except maybe the kicking. A big play would definately give a good edge for the skins to win, but this side of the ball is to unpredictable to count on this. Good field position is all I hope for and expect.

Un-latch the two clasps in the back, and slip the straps over the shoulders.

Dont worry its tough for a lot of guys.

Play mistake free boring football. You don't want to get in a shootout with these guys if you can avoid it. Get Betts and Portis the ball early and often.

Re: How can we pull it off?

I think the opening spread is Pats are favored by 16.5 and the ovr/under is like 50.

BleedBurgundy 10-22-2007 07:31 AM

Re: How can we pull it off?

NE's D isn't what it once was. I think they can be had if you run it right at them. I think we have the secondary to play with the patriots, hold them to 21 or 28 points. It will depend on how Maroney is feeling. If he's 100% then I think we're going to have a rough time focusing on the pass. My concern is the offense. Good news is we're due for a big time game from Santana and Portis.

The Key Matchups Will Be:

Sean Taylor on Randy Moss

Jason Campbell vs NE Secondary

Santana Moss vs Santana Moss's Hands

It's going to take the Skins best effort of the year and an off day for the Patriots.

I think the game will be closer than most people think.

Re: How can we pull it off?

Guys, I'm not really looking forward to this game this weekend. I don't think it will be a blowout but I think about the Dallas game when NE was down by 4 in the 3rd quarter, its like they woke a giant when Brady looked up to see them losing. Also after last nights game in Denver Madden said what others are not saying. What about their O line? Brady has had more time than just about any other QB out there, and the offensive starters are getting healthier for them. I think it's a big week for our secondary, but looking at their wins, well it's pretty impressive, but they have not played against a D like ours yet, but that will only soften the blow and they are great at game planning. If Gibbs wants a chance in this game he will have to let Jason C. take chances down the field. I think we should keep blitzes at a minimum, that didn't work out so well for us last year and Brady is too good at reading them. I think we stick to what we have been doing and keep our safeties deep and let the front 4 put pressure on Brady with some LB help. Let Brady pass into the short zone and let ST stick the wood to Moss. If you look at the D rankings of thier opponents its pretty wild, scored 48 against Dallas's 7th ranked D and 49 against Miami's 27th ranked D. To me that has to do with game planning and finding a D's weakness. BUT again, on any given Sunday right?
Opp. D ranking today
Jets 28 W38-14
SD 16 W38-14
Buf 31 W38-7
Cin 29 W34-13
Clev 32 W34-17
Dal. 7 W48-27
Mia. 27 W49-28
Skins. 4 ????????
