Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

I know Suisham missed a kick today, but evaluating his whole season thus far, has he done a good job??

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

7 of 10 w/ 2 of the misses from beyond 40 yards. He's no Bironas or Vinaterri but better than Hurtin' Hall or Blanchard.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

I imagine they are starting to think about some other options.

I remember hearing that most coaches believe there are like 45 guys in the world capable of being an NFL kicker. 5-7 of them are good enough to be mainstays and avoid funks and so forth. The rest are all the same guy. Prone to prolonged funks and generally unreliable. Our guy is one of those.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

His misses have all been the exact same nasty hook. He should try to kick it straight next time IMO.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

He's becoming very unreliable. I think they should clearly bring in some kickers this week for a look.

Take a look at what is out there to possibly be had. We NEED a RELIABLE kicker, we see how close most all games are ending.

If you can't make it from 40 consistently without fail you should be out of a job. Mr. Sushi is starting to piss me off.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

If he hits that kick, we are not sweating like that at the end. Tough miss. One more like that, and we start brining in competition, IMO.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

He started off strong but he hasn't been kicking well as of late. I think they should bring in some competition for him, I really wish we could find just one consistent kicker.

Bring back Novak!

Haha. No, but seriously I think Suisham is about as consistent as it's gonna get. Best keep him around till at least the end of the season.

Thanks Captain Obvious. The Redskins should also try to win next game. Wow, I love this logic!

It's like the guy sitting behind me at the game who screamed "Watch out for the onside kick!" at the end of the game.

What's he supposed to do, throw his helmet and kick the bench? He missed it and he knows it. Like the saying goes, you cant let the opponent see you sweat.

The hooks are coming from trying to kick too hard instead of just swinging his leg. Kind of like hooking a golf ball.

I love it when we get on players for not acting upset enough.

Like it would really accomplish anything if he threw a tantrum.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

I think our kicker stinks.

To miss a 41 yarder that badly yesterday is unacceptable. That should have cost us that game and maybe our season. That kick from Rackers goes in we're screwed!

jbcjr14 10-22-2007 11:22 AM

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

I think more importantly yesterday were his kickoffs. I think only 1 kickoff was inside the 10 yard line! I don't know if that was schemed, but it certainly wasn't what I was seeing in earlier games with most of his kicks going inside the 5 and into the endzone.

BDBohnzie 10-22-2007 11:23 AM

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

Wow. Simply wow. Are we sure the Skins won yesterday?

Suisham has 10 total attempts this year, hitting what he should (5-6 inside 40) and you're bagging him because he missed one kick. There is only one kicker who is perfect FG wise on the season (Jay Feely), and you have veterans like Jeff Wilkins, Rackers, Mare who are having off years.

He'll get it straightened out. Let him miss 2 or 3, and let him miss a GW kick, and we'll talk. Until then, he's doing an adequate job, so let's leave it at that. Bringing in competition at this point is pointless.

Interesting.

Why didn't they bring in any competition for him in camp if he's so bad and the coaches know it?

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

It's funny that people have such a short memory around here. Does no one remember that up until Washington signed John Hall, they changed kickers once or twice every season. They lost several games in that stretch because of missed field goals.

What's the point of bringing in competition? They'll bring in someone who'll look solid on the practice field, and be hot for a week or two, then fall off like every other kicker that's signed in the middle of the season, and it'll be back to the drawing board in the offseason. Suisham is 70% on the season. That's not great, but it's servicable. He may just be in a rut, like 90% of the kickers in the league suffer at some point in time. If he misses a few more critical kicks, then by all means, hit the panic button.

mlmpetert 10-22-2007 12:17 PM

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

kicker Rob Bironas proved to be a "loss prevention" specialist.

The former Best Buy security guard opened the scoring with a 52-yard field goal, ended the contest with a 29-yarder and converted six others in between during a thrilling 38-36 victory. Bironas, a former Arena League performer (AF2, too) who participated in training camps for three NFL franchises before finally making the Titans in 2005, became the first kicker in NFL history to kick eight field goals in one contest.

Is this the same guy that kicked a 63 yarder to beat the Colts last year and tie the record?

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

Suisham is decent. Hasn't looked great or terrible, he's about what you expect.

I'd like to stick w/him. Contrary to the tuna & some other coaches, I believe continuity in the kicking game is crucial. Sure he's missed a few that were makeable, but he's had good games too. Remember that he nailed the game winner v. Miami from 40. I thought that was a good omen for his season. he's a little off now, but I think he'll get back on track.

I was hitting the panic button yesterday when he missed that chip shot up 14-6. No excuse for that. Ball missed by 20 yards EAST!!!

On a serious note where is John Hall??? He is still good if he's healthy

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

He's shown signs of developing a hook. Not good. When I have the hooks, I try not to swing so hard. Just a thought in case Danny Smith is a reader.

On kickoffs, I think he's either nursing something or they're purposely kicking high short ones for coverage reasons. At any rate, he's showed a stronger leg in the past on kickoffs, so I wonder.

How are you certain he wasnt pissed? I suspect he was really pissed but kickers (like baseball pitchers) have to maintain their poise and cool.

I'm going to write him and ask that next time he misses a FG to go to the sidelines and throw his helmet and knock over the drink table.

Good idea, then Earthquake would know he was pissed that he missed a FG.

Anybody else take notice of his tackle on that kick return? He's a little dude but came flying down the field and made a nice tackle. I couldn't believe the announcers ignored it.

BDBohnzie 11-20-2007 01:10 PM

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

They didn't ignore it. They pointed it out and showed a replay of him making a huge tackle...then noticed he was limping around on the sideline.

What a difference a month makes...at this time last month, he missed a kick, and people were calling for his head. Since then, he's 10-11, with the only miss coming on Sunday from 49.

Re: Is Our Kicker Doing A Good Job??

He is 14 for 17 in FG's, 82%. He is 100% in kicking field goals from 20-29 yards and 80% from 30-39 and 75% from 40-49. He's having a pretty good season, definately better then what we're usually used to seein from the Redskins kicking game. He is struggling in one part of his game though, and that is kick offs... He is almost last in kickoff yardage and average yardage.
