Should We Be As Happy With This Win
I know a win is a win but barely winning against a 1-7 team & with your running back rushing for 196 yards is not that good. How long can we go barely winning games again JC still only had 23 attempts for 142 yards if you look at all the other QB's the Favre's, Brady's, Manning & even Derek Anderson is throwing 30 to 40 attempts per game it's almost like we aren't trying to progress in the passing game. I glad we are 5-3 but I still don't know about our offense.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
i think today the offense finally showed a little progress. The line held up a better and Portis ran for 196. Today i thought it was the defense which looked bad today.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
23 attempts is plenty as far as I'm concerned. If he hadn't of overthrown Moss in OT his numbers would have been respectable. He's not good enough yet for us to throw it 40 times a game. He locks in one receiver only and then if we're lucky he finds the checkdown. BTW, Mark Rypien averaged about 26 throws a game in 1991. And there were people then saying that football had changed and it was a passing league, blah, blah, blah. I say stick with the plan, run the ball, and let Campbell fill in the blanks.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
While I think we should throw more 23 attempts for 142 isn't that horrible and come on. JC is nowhere near as good as Brady or Manning yet. Gibbs wants Portis taking 25 or 30 hand offs a game. It seems to be as if JC has to drop back and throw 30 or 40 times, we're either losing really bad or Saunders is suffering from an aneurysm because that's not how Gibbs wants his team to be based.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Yeah they gave up some plays but the d also held their ground in the 2nd half only giving up a field goal.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
We need to do exactly what we did two years ago. Period.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
a win is a win
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
The Jets are a better team than the 1-7 record suggests.
We've also beat a 6-2 team (lions). We actually destroyed them. Anything can happen. We do have a lot of injuries and that will hurt us going forward, but we're learning to live with those injuries. When Campbell is let loose to throw 10-20 yards down the field, good things usually happen. I think Campbell needs to learn how to check down better...a lot of times he stares at his target and still throws it there, he needs to learn to look around. But anyway, yes, I am happy with where we are, and if we make the playoffs, we'll ALL be happy. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
I feel games are still to close if they put the ball in the air more I think that will lead to more first downs. It's obvious that we are going to pass when it's 3rd & 6 and beyond that is how predictable this offense has become even with Portis running well play action wasn't really used today. I know the game plan is run 1st pass 2nd. But passing to little is the main reason we went to OT the last two wins.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
I think we should be happy with any win we get.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
I'm happy--I can wear my Skins gear on the subway in peace. It was brutal after the Giants loss...
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Its not JC's attempts that I want to see more of, I actually think he has the perfect amount..I just want to see some passes going 20-30 yards down feild and finding ways to get the WR involved.
Bottom line though, a win is a win; were 5-3 at the halfway point, which is pretty damn good. Yeah the Jets arent a great team, but for the first time in forever in the second half, it actually looked like our guys were playing with the fire we saw a couple of years ago. |

At 5-3 our losses are to teams with a combined 3 losses and I'd be suprised if the Pats lose to anyone this year. |

142 passing is not going to get it done against some of the teams we have coming up. But a win is a win and I'll take it. 5-3 is better than 4-4. |

Incredible...you just can't please some folks.

Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
In the standings, yes I am happy about the win.. From standpoints of coaching, playcalling on both sides of the ball, preparation, execution, intensity and overall confidence in your playmakers today's game left much to be desired..
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Personally I never feel bad about a loss. How can you? The end result is the only thing that really matters.

I'm pleased. I just expected more out of this team. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
We should be very happy because 5-3 is better than 4-4
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
the offense looked pretty good. portis had 196 yards. and if campbell only threw the ball 23 times so what? if it helps us win so be it. u see how we came back and fought hard didnt you?
the defense buckled down and only allowed a field goal in the second half. this was pretty good football. it seems like we play better when we come back from behind.. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Beats the hell outta being unhappy with a LOSS!
Bottom line we came back in the second half and played much better football, against a team that had NOTHING to loss and forget there record, they played a heck of a game. At the end of the day it goes down in the WIN category for the HOME TEAM! 5-3 beats the heck outta 4-4......! Get ready for next week, philly your next! |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy we won. But the Redskins still haven't done anything to convince me they're anything better than a middle-of-the-road NFL team.
Luckily, middle of the road in the NFL might be enough to make the playoffs in the NFC. I'm just hoping for another magical December from a Joe Gibbs team. This year, we've won enough games so that a strong Gibbs December will put us in the playoffs. For some reason, Gibbs always gets the team to wake up come December. I'm keeping it real for right now, but keeping the faith for December. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
The O-line did a great job today. JC needs to work on his accuracy with is receivers. the defense looked a little suspect today.
I think we will see our offensive playbook open up against the eagles, such as some trickery. This is a must win to keep up with the playoff hunt. I sensed a little heart today from this team, and it came from one of it's main play-makers. This is a good sign going into the seond half of the season. I hope........ |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
I was hoping to find one of these threads, because I was thinking of this. In 2 of our loses, not NE, we could and should have won but the opponent got lucky, now we are starting to experience some of that with our last two wins. Now, however, we're back to even, and we have to start winning for real again.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
One thing we shouldn't forget about this win, injuries on defense, as well as the injuries we have had all season on offense.
Plus, the QB change in Kellen Clemens, it is difficult to prepare for a guy who doesn't have much film on him. Even though the Jets run defense is poor, 196 yards on anyone, is a good thing, plus CP had 30 carries, which is good, since we all thought his hand injury could be the downfall for his season. A lot of positives out of this close game, and looking at the Eagles right now as the game is in the 4th Q, we should be able to keep up with them like we did in week 2. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
HELL YEAH WE SHOULD BE HAPPY! Guess what? Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's baaaaaaaaaaaaack? Portis looked like his old self again, best damn news for our offense all season long. I honestly didn't expect a big day from Portis (or Betts) till RT gets back, which should be in just about 30 days so that's awesome.
The other reason to be happy is that Campbell looked ok. After the bitch-slapping NE gave him I was scared Campbell could really lose confidence, but other than the pick he looked ok. If he could just get a little more accurate we have the ability to open games way up (think about the bomb to Moss today that was about 2 feet out of reach). And finally, had teams not given up the run back on kickoff this would not have been a very close game. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
I posted this in another thread but I'm going to post it here too,
we were lucky to escape with the win, kudo's to the off line and suisham, looks like he got his hook fixed,a lot of people didnt think he would be able to make a game winning kick, especially from that distance,i had my doubts also going into the game but after the way he was kicking prior to o.t. I had confidence in him for the last kick. Still very unimpressed with offense and playcalling,my main problem with it being so unimaginative, remember all the presnap motion Gibbs used to do? but my main problem isnt about that, its what we do when we run the play.We rarley use the shotgun, when we do pass its usually straight 7 yrd drop back passes with no play action pass, theres no deception on off to try and confuse the def.I noticed last week against N.E.,and this week against the jets, who looked like they might have used some of N.E.'s plays, their off's used misdirection, fake handoffs and fake reverses,a lot of different looks that confused our def and kept us off balance,I see none of that in our off except for once or twice a game. One of our best plays today was Jason dropping back to pass and faking the throw and then the delayed handoff to portis for a good gain, that was a great call but theres not enough of that kind of playcalling.Today we were able to win because the off line came together and opened some holes,if they wouldnt have the outcry on hear would be so bad you wouldnt be able to stand it. I wouldnt be as concerned with the playcalling as far as run pass ratio if i saw some imagination with the plays instead of straight handoffs and straight dropback passing |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
great win today. i thought it was done after that long pass by the jets in OT. i would like to see JC hit some of his big throws. they tout him for throwing a great deep ball but i just haven't seen it yet.
still, ill take the W and am planning to take the rest of the season one game at a time. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Of COURSE we should be happy--we we're down 17 to 3, to the JETS!!!
Pluses: The run game--we're going to need it, though it won't be this easy down the road. Shuish--very clutch. Landry (but for the one bone-head play, though he was flying there, even). Onside kick. Portis--he matters for this team, whatever the detractors say. And Betts looked good as well. Minuses: Specials TD on the first friggin play of the game. Weak passing attack, though every now and they you saw flashes. D gave up lots of yards, and lots of 3rd downs. Some weak penalties. Remember, we got creamed last week--that can linger. Plus, this was a trap game in lots of ways--after the Pats, before the Eagles, and with the Jets really being better than their record shows. I watched them lose to the Ravens, and thought they looked pretty much like we saw today. Bottom line: had to have it, and we got it. Now things get tougher. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
happy with the win, but i hated that last run call before we punted to let them get the tying field goal.... thats why we lost the games we lost wit the exception of N.E...... situations like that can easily make or break a game
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Agree about the that call in the 4th, Meks--gotta convert there. We have had toruble with that all year. Why not throw to Cooley? Worked much of the day. Gotta trust JC a bit more there.
But I can see their thinking with the day we were having in the run game. But whatever--find a way to convert!!!!! |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
Yes, the Jets are a better team than their record shows. I am glad Coles was not playing. I am happy to be 5-3 for the first 8 games.
If we can split with the Cowgirls and beat the Eagles and Giants then we have a great chance to finish 10-6 or better. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
not to beat a dead horse, but... i personally dont care what it looks like. ill take any win. and more then likely, 10 wins gets the skins in. if the skins win when the should, they will be in. all they need is 5 more ugly wins
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
The rest of the season is very important now:
Eagles.......(3-5) - Must win for Skins.....6-3 (NFC-E) Cowgirls.....(7-1) - Likely Loss for Skins...6-4 (NFC-E) Bucs..........(5-4) - Must win for Skins.....7-4 (NFC) Bills...........(4-4) - Must win for Skins.....8-4 (AFC) Bears.........(3-5) - Must win for Skins.....9-4 (NFC) Giants........(6-2) - Must win for Skins....10-4 (NFC-E) Vikings.......(3-5) - Must win for Skins....11-4 (NFC) Cowgirls.....(7-1) - Must win for Skins.....12-4 (NFC-E) The Cowgirls have to get by the Packers, Giants and Skins. Hope for 3 loses there that would tie us 12-4 Hope that Detroit and NE beat the Giants. Then it is our job to make sure we beat the Giants to give them an 11-5 record. Of course, any given Sunday!!! |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
a win is a win...be it by 45 points or 3 points it still all counts the same. Good teams beat the teams they are suppose to beat...had we lost i dont think we can consider ourselves a good team. Bring on the Eagles. 5-3 at the halfway point...ill take that.
|
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
The difference between bad teams and good teams isn't all that much. We should know, last year we found ways to lose games like yesterday. The Jets are not a bad team, they are just a play or two away each game from being a winning team.
No need to hang your head after a win. |
Re: Should We Be As Happy With This Win
They talked about going back to Redskins football, and they did that yesterday. Controlled the clock (36 v. 31 minutes), ran the football (48 carries v. 23 pass attempts), and played good defense (3 points after the 9 minute mark in the 2nd quarter). Aside from the poor coverage on the opening kickoff (tried to pin Washington to the right, and overpursued), the Redskins played a solid game all around.
I was reading an article over the weekend about Al Saunders, and the one thing that sticks out was the fact that he sets up the offense to compliment the defense. They are playing conservative because their defense is good enough to keep them in games (ala the Baltimore Ravens). Yesterday, the Redskins did take some shots downfield, and we will see more of that in the weeks to come. A win is a win, no matter how pretty or how ugly it is. And, who's to say you can't make improvements after win? A struggling Philly team comes to town this weekend. They always seem to play up when they play the Skins...so a battle will ensue come Sunday. 5-3 is great. 6-3 for a team that won 5 games last year is a very nice change of pace. Be proud to be a Skins fan... |

at this point thats how i see things.. a win is a win in a NFC conference that isn,t what it used to be thats for sure...all that matter is we are 5-3 and looking win #6 against philly. |
