Redskins Radio: Skins sign WR Anthony Mix

I was just listening to Redskins Radio, and they said that we picked up Anthony Mix. Mix played with JC at Auburn, and he caught 3 passes for 39 yards this year with the Giants. By the way he is 6'5 240lbs.

Re: Redskins Radio: Skins sign WR Anthony Mix

Well maybe that addresses our need for a big receiver on red zone passing packages. Let's hope so. As a bonus, he played for Auburn with Jason Campbell, so perhaps there's some chemistry there.

Here is Mix's NFL scouting report on SI.com prior to the 2006 draft:
SI.com - 2006 NFL Draft - Anthony Mix

And here is an article when the Giants waived Mix last month:

I wonder if JC put a bug in the coach's ear about him? That would be pretty cool, not to mention a sign of a lot of faith in our young qb.

I was wondering same thing.. Also I wonder why Giants released him in first place?

I'm sure it wasn't because he was amazingly talented. lol. Hopefully he turns out to be a great find.

Actually, after clicking on that link above, supposedly he was developing nicely. He was just in a situation where he was stuck behind burress and the team had other needs. This could be a really good signing.

I'm sure they asked about the guy. But he's getting released for a reason. We need a big wr but he also has to have skills.

Hahah, oh wow. A message from a Giant's fan on the NJ.com blog site:
"Posted by 1LVNYGfan on 10/03/07 at 5:18PM
This move is very strange to me. He'll sign with the Redskins, hang out with his old QB Jason Campbell and become an NFL star. The Giants will be stuck with Moss who cant stay healthy. Talk about someone who has not contributed on the field. Just not a good move by the Giants front office. Last I checked Plax is 30 years old. How much does he have left?"
According to the link above, he was showing signs of progression, but having a backup that could only play one wr position was not a luxury the Giants could afford. We''ll see...

FINALLY!!! we needed another red-zone threat to take some pressure off of Cooley. I remember seeing this Mix kid in pre-season looks like he could be a real playmaker!!
So why was he unemployed up until now?
He's totally unproven at more than one level of competition.

The difference between this dude and Brandon Lloyd is that the Redskins didn't give up anything to get him. Both are talented receivers who could flourish here in theory.

Hopefully, this Mix guy isn't a giant pussy. If he isn't he will be a much needed target for us.

Sadly, i must agree with the Cowboy fan. Odds are stacked against the Skins on this one. But who knows. If he sticks around this could be welcomed.

Ok, now we have 6 receivers on the roster, is this a sign that Saunders will open the book more and try 4 Wideouts? Just a thought.

Saw this guy play in the preseason Giant games and thought he would be their 4th receiver. Good possession guy obviously with his size. Caught about 15 balls and a couple of TDs. Worth a look--probably better than Toler...

Don't know anything about this Mix kid, I think the size is great, don't think we will see much or any of him, but anyway.

But speaking of mix, I'm curious why Caldwell isn't more into it..? Is he not getting it or what..? I thought this guy would have a chance to step up and get some playing time.

It appears they aren't impressed with him...?

Reche Caldwell
Travis Taylor
Jabar Gafney
Jacquez Green
Taylor Jacobs
Chad Jackson

I may be missing others

I've been wondering the same thing. They said KM understood the offense having played in a similar one in San Diego. But Reche was his teammate so you'd figure he'd get it too.

As for Mix, doesn't seem like it could hurt. I'm more curious about the DeMulling release. With the injuries along the O-line I'm not sure why they would let him go. Only thing I could surmise is that Randy Thomas could be back in a game or two. Wouldn't that be something if he suited up on Sunday?

Man, I always thought Kenny Watson would have been fine as a third down back here. Tough to see him go.

As far as Penn State running backs, I was thinking of Ki-jana Carter, Blair Thomas, and Curtis Enis. Sure, the Nittany Lions will produce some good ball carriers here and there, but lately they've had some highly touted guys come into the NFL and fall flat on their faces.

Thanks for the history fellas. I was wondering why Caldwell didn't get on the field. In hindsight, it was probably good Gibbs/Saunders kept giving Moss opp after opp. Hopefully our playmaker at WR is on track for the next 6 games. HUGE DIFFERENCE WEEK TO WEEK! Just look how much more potent our air game was Sunday.

Even if this Mix kid just provides another big target in redzone/goal line, or even just a big distraction in those situations, he's worth it.

I'm a little suspicious.

Excellent size, good speed, but he's on a practice squad. What gives?

Something obviously lacks with this guy. Looks like the physical attributes are there - wonder if it's something that can be coached? Bad hands? Bad route running? Dumb as a brick?

Something's up. It's nice to see a big WR dressed in B&G though.

Maybe it's a sign that three of them have been battling what appear to be chronic injuries in recent weeks, and the other three are hardly starting material.

I think down the stretch they are going to loosen the reigns on Campbell. It was very impressive what he did against Dallas with a patchwork offensive line, and I think the coaching staff is starting to gain more and more confidence in him.

So they are probably going to let him pass the ball more and more.

And what better way to give a young talented QB confidence then to present him a VERY big target with which to throw to.

Sounds to me like they are trying to program Campbell for success.

Not often that I agree with stjack, but this is no sandtrap. We do have a patchwork O-line, no doubt.

Big thing on the college scout was work ethic--if he busts his tail here (and with JC riding him, he ought to), he could be good. The key is can he pick up the Hback position--that would be huge. Plus, he's gotta play teams.

Certainly can't hurt.
