What is a Fan / Homer / Realist
I have been a Redskin Fan since I was 4 years old. I cried myself to sleep at night in the worst of times, and Partied with In San Diego in the Best of times. I can be a realist throughout all (silently I believe that Superbowl team that lost to the Raiders, Man for Man would destroy any team on anyone computer sim). It appears from many of the post, that people will doubt someone loyalty, if they comment on what they see wrong. This is wack to me, but I may make post that seem wack to others. As a Fan / Realist / gambler, I have to call a spade a spade. My thoughts on the coaching staff/hires, and GM not withstanding, I started the year with an honest assesment. I did not know that the OL would crumble. I did not know what to expect from the WRs or DLine, and I thought it would be safe at best to expect a split in the division. We own Detroit historically, I thought GB owned us. I added NE, Chicago to the list of our losses and a gimme. I believe my prediction is on pace, but I need near perfection to meet 9-7. I'd like to hear other posters position on what is fan / homer / realist, and where they thought we'd be at this point.

Dont ever disagree with the Kool Aid Drinkers. This team is on the right path, just give Gibbs and Company 10+ years and you will be a fool for doubting them.

lol... 10+ huh? |
Re: What is a Fan / Homer / Realist
There is nothing wrong with being a homer. I am a fan of the Washington Redskins, fan is short for fanatic. I am a fanactic of the Redskins. The beginning of each season I hope for a Super Bowl appearance if not at least a playoff appearance. High expectations are part of being a fanatic as is experiencing disappointment. After each lose and bad season I remain a Redskins fanatic. I will continue to drink the 'KOOL AID" until I take my last breath. "HAIL TO THE REDSKINS"

This team is on the wrong path. We need a coaching change. Here in Washington we overvalue continuity. We never irrationally call for change. Dan Snyder and this franchise are the model of stability. It's about time we try something different and change things up. It's not like we have a hall of fame coach. :smashfrea Don't ever disagree with the snide, arrogant hater-aid drinkers, or you will be blasted for being an ignorant fool. |

LOL...funny. I don't have a problem with the kool aid folks staunchly defending Gibbs and Co. - heck, I hope things miraculously work out for our ol' hall of famer and this team. Just reassuring to know that there a bunch of fans questioning what he's done this go around. |
Re: What is a Fan / Homer / Realist
A realist knows we suck and are not going to get any better in the current state.
A kool aid drinker thinks we have a shot at the playoffs and then once there the players will win it all for D.C. while singing "hail to the Redskins" on the way to the stadium. Nothing wrong with being a homer, but a blind homer is another name for retard. |

What bugs me are the snide, arrogant pricks who think they are realists, when in fact they are type of guys who no one wants to be around because they are always pissing and moaning.

I think they are Yankees fans that have infiltrated the boards. :vomit: |

Your right i guess, were really not that bad. Gibbs will turn it all around with a good playoff run, maybe next year he will do the same. No need to worry in D.C. Get real..... Its interesting how riled up the kool aid drinkers get when you mention that name "kool aid". Its an automatic "get three shitty responses" post. On top of that i think in the last 3 weeks ive been called a douche bag about 10 times, each time by a kool aid drinker. Let me know when im wrong about this team going nowhere with Gibbs at the helm, let me know when its going to get better. |

I was simply adding to the name calling list. Hey, it works both ways. Without the ying there's no yang. For every homer there's a hater. |

Maybe that douche bag is filled with kool aid instead of vinegar and water. |
Re: What is a Fan / Homer / Realist
These days I want the Redskins to win not to rub it into my friends who are Eagles fans or Giants fans or whatever, but to rub it into fellow Redskins fans. The ones (all on this site) really who refuse to allow me to enjoy a single minute of being a Redskins fan. For three hours every Sunday I like to get away from the realities of the world (job deadlines, family issues, financial concerns, etc.) and just root for my team. They let me down plenty, but they also have brought me tremendous joy for over two decades.
But heaven forbid I should ever feel good about a single damn thing the Redskins do because there will always be some other fellow Redskins fan to piss all over my joy. I hated that we lost today, but I loved (save for the two INTs) the way our offense moved in the second half and the way our Defense absolutely dominated. |
Re: What is a Fan / Homer / Realist
How can anyone on this site NOT be a homer? If you're spending your time following this team--whether you have positive or negative feelings--you're a homer. You can be a optimistic homer or a pessimistic one.

ok, well my bad i was assuming you were. I do agree though that for every homer there is a hater. I just think that the haters get slammed more for being a hater than for what they are actually posting. |

This whole thing is really getting stupid and needs to come to an end. Like I said in another thread I think the majority of people here fall in the middle. There are a few extremists on either side, but for the most part people fall somewhere in between. I think the extremists need to go and we may need to start doing something about it soon before they wreck this entire board. |

It's not a sure thing, just as the Pats over Eagles wasn't a sure thing. I also happen to think we will win that game and be back at 6-6 and tied for the 6th seed. 6-6. Holding a Wild Card spot after 13 weeks. If we beat the Buffalo Bills. This season is not over. THAT is realism. Nothing else needs to be said to this. We take care of our business against teams FAR worse than the Tampa team we played today, we take a wild card. |

Constant change has been the hallmark of the Snyder tenure as owner. One could argue that bringing in Saunders, along with a slew of free agents, and trading 4 mid-level draft picks for Lloyd and Duckett in 2006 was an example of this team undervaluing continuity. Both the homers and the realists are fans. The only difference is that the homers pretty much ignore systemic trends that have led to the Skins being a mediocre organization. The realists want the Skins to win just as badly as the homers, the only difference is that the realists acknowledge the team's shortcomings. |

Re: What is a Fan / Homer / Realist
I think anyone who is passionate about a team is a fan. What's funny to me is that I've been called a hater, a kool aid drinker, a realist, and an eternal optimist. Sometimes all in one day.
I do think that some changes must be made, but not wholesale. We are 1-1 in blowouts and 4-5 in games decided by 8 or less. 2-1 in games decided by 3 or less. Parity is ruling the NFL now (save for the Patriots who might have to play the X-Men to lose). A team under .500 might win the AFC West. The 5-6 Vikings destroyed the 7-4 Giants and last week the Jets beat the Steelers. This team won't be 19-0 anytime soon. Will the Giants win another game this year? How about the Lions? I think the Cards (who lost to the 49ers) have a better shot than the Giants. When the mathameticians tell me that there is no shot I look to next year. As George Micheal sang, "You gotta have faith." As far as the complaining goes, I'll take a "we suck" over any negative comment from someone else. By brother can call my mom fat but nobody else can, regardless of the truth. So what does this make me? Yes, I am still hoping for the playoffs. If they make it I will be cheering wildly though I personally feel that we'll be seeing another Packer vs Patriot SuperBowl. Am I a Kool Aid drinker because I recognize the chance to make the playoffs still? Or a "realist" because I think this season is pointless and we should just crown the Patriots ass? |
