I Kinda Wish The Season Was Over

Sorry to rain on everyone's playoff parade and positive feelings or whatever, but I'm just not into getting up for football since Sean Taylor's passing. So like it or not, you guys are the only ones I can talk to about this. Sorry, you're just stuck with me on this one.

I feel bad for our guys that have to go out there and muster up "emotion" and "energy" knowing that between every play and every time out, #21 will be occupying the dead and still moments on the grid iron.

Can you imagine living here in D.C. right now? I can't get on or off the train in the morning without seeing a black Sean Taylor cap on someone's head or a Sean Taylor memorial t-shirt. Everytime you flip the news on it's one of the first and last things you hear about. Just last night I was headed to a pub, that I never go to, and the lounge located right next it to (Ozzio's) had a very nice color image..almost like a portrait...of Sean Taylor at the entrance. It was blown up like an advertisement or something; it had some very nice words written at the bottom in Sean's honour. I just stood there and shed a tear right there on that cold, windy sidewalk.

All of the buses shuttling people to and from the stadium on Sunday had "ST21" or "Sean" where they usually display the bus route. Part of me wants to see the season end on an up note and another part, ,the larger part, wishes that we (I) could just grieve and think about football next year. I don't know...

I'm feeling better but damn..this still sucks, man!

Yeah, I kinda don't really care about wins and losses anymore this year. Too much perspective. I just would like to see some solid play and improvement in key areas.

Yeah I hear ya 12thman, I don't care if they win or lose games because it is extremely tough to play a game after something like this. I just wish they had some time to themselves' and they could get away from football for a while.

It sucks for sure but the team has to push forward. There already seems to be a better mood around Redskins Park from the interviews I've seen this week. Guys are smiling a bit more and the healing process has begun.

12th I could not agree with you more. I was listening to the radio guys bitching and moaning about Gibbs screw up the other day and I just didn't care. I just want the season to end and get away from it for a while as I'm sure the players do. The bottom line is we are not that good, and with ST passing away it just makes this season seem so meaningless now. I'm sure I'll get the feeling back once the draft comes around, and I'll still watch NFL Network everyday. But as far as our team goes I just want 07 to end.

I kinda have that feeling of sadness too. Its kinda strange. I didn't know the guy but have found myself thinking about this tragedy alot lately. I was at the game last sunday but found that kind of strange too in the sense that i almost felt guilty for cheering for football.

It's funny how we all follow the careers of these guys and feel a certain connection to them. It reminds us that we need to be happy everyday and be thankful for our friends and family. I admire the way the ST played football and in some way i wish/strive to live my life that way...in a way...100% every day.

I guess i went off on a tangent...but in that way...football just doesn't mean as much for the rest of the year. I still want us to do well and am hoping for a minor miracle though mainly for ST though.

12th, of all the threads you have started, this one is confusing. how do you react if a co worker dies suddenly? you grieve and then you carry on. what about a family member? you take some time off, then start over again, right back at it. this is all about the human spirit, and over coming obstacles. this is why we are unique, in the grand scheme of things. i would expect nothing less then maximum effort from the skins. i have some tragedy in my life, but i keep on keepin on. i wouldn't want anyone on the redskins, if they thought the same way as you. i would expect them to fight up until the very end. and im sure that is exactly what Sean Taylor would have wanted.

True...but here's the rub. Everytime I come here, which I love to do, a piece of me thinks about Sean Taylor...and our Redskin brethren..and his family. This Sunday before I flip on any TV programming, a piece of me thinks about Taylor. And like someone else said, you almost feel guilty cheering for the team. You're right though, you have to move on. Maybe I needed someone to just say it to me. Maybe when I see them line up against the Bears I'll feel better about it all.

I must say, I was totally into watching the Ravens knock the snot out the Pats for four quarters. So my football mo'jo is still alive and kicking.

I was at lunch with friend of mine last week. She's like my mom's age damn near so we usually get together once a week and talk about absolutely nothing; it's just routine mainly. So she goes into how this is so tragic and said something like, "yeah, appearently he was a jackass awhile ago". I had to bite my tongue. I was like, wha?

People kill with some of the shit they say sometimes. Sometimes I wish I could just say, grow the f up!

Re: I Kinda Wish The Season Was Over

Actually, while it's kinda hard in some ways, rooting for the team is the thing that helps me move on. I'm not a touchy feely kinda guy, but when Taylor died it hit me hard, so I was kinda like WTF, why am I so upset?

But seeing the team play Buffalo was the thing that helped me see that life will still go on in Redskins land. Campbell will still make a lot of plays, they'll still sing Hail to the Redskins, and Gibbs will still make frustratingly conservative decisions. Life goes on and I think each game will help me move on a bit by bit.

I do feel for you. A part of me would like to see the season just end, but another part of me wants to watch the Skins no matter what and just cheer my heart out. As sad as I'm about ST's passing I really think that football is kind of like a 3 hour getaway for me. I still think about ST but seeing the Skins play kind of helps get my mind off of him and his untimely passing.

It ebbs and flows. I was outside the stadium getting pumped before the game, then I got somber when once inside. But perhaps little by little, game by game, I'll feel better.

I kinda wish the golf season would start, I can't wait to see what Tiger, Phil, Vijay, and the rest of the big boys do this year. I wouldn't be a bit suprised to see Tiger win all four majors this coming season, that said I'm hoping he doesn't.

Ok--back to the thread topic (sorry to rain on your... whatever! ;) )

This undoubtedly qualifies as the worst season EVER for our beloved Redskins. So there's a real sense in which I wish it were over as well. But a few gutsy wins here for pride would help. Of course, given the way things are going, that's a tall order. But it could happen. And as bad as it is, it's still football season. And they are still the Washington Redskins. It would be worse, IMHO, if they weren't playing, given my addiction to skins football.

i also wish it was over. obviously we all hoped to rally on the field for sean and make the playoffs, but the reality of it is we are just that much worse without him (lost our last 4 without him). i'm only talking about the football loss, not the loss of the person.

i just think the sooner this season is over the better. i'll still watch obviously.

i compare this season to the 2001 season when earnhardt got killed in the 1st race and things just got gradually worse from that point.i'll never look at football season like i used too.taylor's death was like the PONR for me this season.i'd be amazed if the skins won another game this season.

Re: I Kinda Wish The Season Was Over

I don't think 12th is suggesting the team should mail it in. We know they won't. Rather, he's saying that as a fan he's just emotionally exhausted. This had been a trying season anyway, with the team being so close in so many ways yet letting things slip away. Then ST died and this officially became the hardest season ever, for fans and players alike.

I'll keep watching, and I know 12th and all of you will too. But I agree with 12th that I am looking forward to turning over a new leaf next year and moving past this troubling season.

Re: I Kinda Wish The Season Was Over

I was really hurting when the 'Skins let LeVar go because he was my favorite player. And I was rooting for ST because he's another game winner, just like LeVar. So I had started grieving already when I imagined LeVar still playing for us, but ST started winning games just like LeVar, then he's taken away. That's really too much for this old fan. And that's such a selfish attitude because football is only a game, but I just knew we would beat the Cowboys and Giants twice a year for the last four years. It just didn't happen...I cried when LeVar spoke on Monday.

Re: I Kinda Wish The Season Was Over

I agree what was is being said here. Football is hard right now. I think about it every day, but I think the players that are out their playing need our support because the have to go out out there and play, it is not a choice. To me, Sean Taylor was a football player, but to these guys he was a friend and basically a brother. Our players need our support, right now wins and losses mean squat, but we (the Fans) have a chance for a tiny 3 hours a week for 4 more weeks have the chance to give them the support that they need. Lets go out there and be loud and emotional and show these teams that Sean Taylor's spirit lives on through 90,000 people.

12th, I hear ya dude. Sunday was tough for me, it didn't really hit me hard all week until the moments of silence, and pregame tributes. Gradually, it's been getting better. But then I'm not getting the constant reminders as you are.

I keep thinking about what Santana Moss said, on how Sean Taylor would have dealt with the the death of a teammate -- he said, "Sean would have mourned when it was time to mourn. But then he'd lace up, and play like no other."

But yes, no matter how the Skins finish, it'll be secondary to me. No doubt, this is the darkest time in the history of the Washington Redskins. The sooner this season is over and we can look forward to a brighter day, the better.

To be cliche- This too shall pass, time heals all wounds.

A week ago today I was a wreck. It had been just one day after healing Sean had passed, and I was breaking down into tears like once every hour. I'll always, ALWAYS miss that guy. But seeing the funeral, reading the articles and player interviews, going to work every day, focusing on normal life stuff, it hasn't weighed on me as much the past few days. Sean's death is an awful thing, but I can compartmentalize. I don't want the season to be over. I want to slowly return to normalcy, just like the Skins. If we can get a win under our belt tomorrow it will help the healing a lot I think.

My freshman year of college was a nightmare. Just two weeks after classes started, one of my best friends from high school was killed by a drunk driver. Two months later my grandma died just 4 weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. And then right after Christmas that same year, one of my childhood friends with whom I played pop warner and little league, decided it would be a good idea to hang himself. Prior to those 4 months I had never dealt with death. And suddenly it was right in my face, 3 times in 120 days. It was so, so hard to cope with all that. I thought I would never recover. But again, to be cliche, that which didn't kill me made me stronger. Since that time I've helped a bunch of friends through times of loss. While I'm no expert, I know the pain of Sean's passing will fade, but his memory will live on strongly.

Now let's go Bear hunting dammit!!!

Hester fumbles more frequently than any punt returner in NFL history, so you want him to touch the football. You just don't want him to touch it in the middle of the field where you have the entire field to defend. You want to cut the field in half and attack him with your best special teamers.

dmek25 12-06-2007 06:23 AM

Re: I Kinda Wish The Season Was Over

i disagree. if you have about a 50-50 chance of Hester fumbling, you probably have a bout a 50-50 chance of him taking it back. he definitely is the bears best offense. i would rather see that lousy Grossman try to beat our defense. that and with the way the giants ran all over the bears d, if we don't see a healthy dose of portis this week, lets all get together and run Al Saunders out of d.c.

SBF, I'm not asking the guys to mail it in by any means. What would be more redeeming than for these guys to back into the playoffs and surprise a couple of teams? Save the Cowboys and the Packers, I think we're still capable of competing with everyone in the NFC.

It's just tough that's all.
