JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
3 years if you look at Walter Payton
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
It depends on the severity of it, our resident Warpath Doctor (we just hired him) will officially let us know shortly
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
I'm reading about it and it says that if surgery is required you have to wear a brace for 6 weeks and then rehab.
Which would mean that JC is done till 08. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
We're going to have to wait and see really how much associated ligament/tendon damage their is with this injury. I'll assume for now that it is a patellar tendon rupture with dislocation. Normally patients need about 6 months with good physical therapy. Being an athlete--Campbell may heal a bit faster. Let's wait until they do the MRI in a few days...
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
If this is a tear, it's the same injury that sent Mike Espy to the IR back in the preseason.
I'm a big advocate of linemen and QBs wearing knee braces 100% of the time. I know they hinder mobility, but so do crutches. |

Thank you, Warpath Doc |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
I'm no doctor, but it seems pretty obvious to me that Campbell is done for the season, no doubt about it. The question isn't if he'll come back for 2007, but will he be 100% come 2008.
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
Even if the injury is on the severe side--I think JC should be ready for 2008.
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
Crap, if he is done, so is any hope of the playoffs, however remote that was. Almost think we ought to tank on purpose to get the better draft pick. Sounds crappy, but we need an immediate impact player on the D now.

Good to hear. This season is done, IMO. May as well get everyone healed up and ready for next year. |

6 months???????? I thought this was a 4-6 week injury. Jeez. That sucks. I think the QB's should wear a brace on the plant leg. It seems like most of the qb injuries to the knees come on the plant leg. |

A dislocation alone will be 1-2 months. However, if there is tendon or ligament injury--which we will not know until after the MRI--the recovery could be 6 months. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
All depends on the degree of the tendon damage.

I am convinced there is a black cloud over this team. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
I could only shake my head an laugh at that point, to keep from smashing something. Guess the native Americans have finally called in their curse for the whole "Redskins" thing. Or it's one of those trials of Job things. Or it's cause I've been a bad person--my fault, most likely. Sorry folks.

I thought he tore his ACL, MCL, or PCL based on how much pain he appeared to be in. I looked at my girlfriend and said, "he's done for the year and may not be back next year." I can deal with 6 months. I could not have dealt with 12-18. |

Dude that is really hard to do. I highly doubt he tore everything. |

No, I know hoos. I meant to say that I initially thought he tore either the ACL, MCL, or PCL. I realize that he probably didn't tear anything. |

You mean you realize he didn't tear "everything" right? I am confused right now, but I think we are saying the same thing. I agree with the fact that it seemed like he tore a ligament. |

Yup and I pray he didn't tear anything at all. |

Well, remember how the story of Job turned out? If that's the case, then we're going to the Superbowl. :) |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
It all depends on the severity like others have mentioned, but I've gone through the same dislocation with the tearing of my mcl as well and I was given the prognosis that after having surgery I would be pretty much back to normal after about 9 monthes because of the degree of the tear. I actually opted to just go with physical therapy and dealing with discomfort and pain occasionally, but Campbell has much better doctors and rehab services available to him so I see him having the possibility of being ready for the spring workouts or the beginning of training camp at the latest.

I felt exactly the same way and basically told my wife the same thing. Luckily we only have a one story house so I couldn't hurl myself out a window. So far I'm encouraged that it's not the Palmer, McNabb, Culpepper type injury. Even if it means he's definitely done for this season. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
I also remember the story of Trent Green playing in an Al Saunders offense who went down only to have a no name backup come in and take a team to a Superbowl.
Bottom line, if Collins is about 4 points per game better than Campbell at this point, we have a chance.
Well, remember how the story of Job turned out? If that's the case, then we're going to the Superbowl. :)
|
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
PFT is saying that Adam Schefter of the NFL Network is reporting that Campbell will miss a month: ProFootballTalk.com -- The Best Pro Football Scoop on the Internet
So it looks like he's pretty much done for 2007. |

So it looks like he's pretty much done for 2007.
I didn't think he would be out six months like most were saying. Truth is, if we make a deep run into the playoffs, Campbell could be ready to play. Only problem with "deep into the playoffs" is we're talking about Super Bowl deep. And If we've gotten that far with Todd Collins, JC might as well ride the pine. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
so he should get back all his mobility back right?
|
so he should get back all his mobility back right?
I think if it came down to it he wouldn't be 100% for the rest of the year, but he could play if got to that point. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
If no ligament tears, he'll be fine in a couple of weeks and can start in the playoffs.
I've done it to both knees. Once in the weightroom (a bar fell on my knee) and once in basketball practice. My left knee is still perfect, the right one I've hurt a few times, so I have a knee like Gilbert Arenas with the fluid that needs drained from time to time. |

So you're saying you can throw up 60 pts on a given night? |

Not anymore  but we could get our knees drained together. |

Gus - even though I prefer to build through the draft over free agency I thought what you were thinking too about throwing games but I think a team should never throw games because switching the mentality of the the team is hard and if you get used to losing players lose continue to lose confidence and it steamrolls - even into next season in my opinion. If this means we get a draft pick 10 spots lower than so be it - and actually this sometimes can be a benefit because if a draft pick is a bust at least the cap hit will be less severe in the long run if you pick farther down. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
Dude that is really hard to do. I highly doubt he tore everything.
Unfortunately, it's not as hard to tear all three ligaments as you may think. It happened to me 12 years ago in a college lacrosse game. Complete reconstructive knee surgery including screws and a patellar tendon graft, followed by 6 weeks on crutches, 6 months in a brace, and 12 months of rehab. I was back on the field the next season. Surgical technology/procedure has advanced quite a bit in the years since I went through that, so recovery time is quite a bit less. I have also dislocated my patella, there was no ligament damage, so recovery time from that was 3-4 weeks. Regardless of the extent of his injury, expect JC to be done for the season. If there was some ligament damage (I hope it is minor, if any at all) then expect him to have surgery very soon and expect a return to the field by training camp '08 at the latest. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
I had this injury when I was in high school. For the first 1 to 2 weeks it hurt like hell and I thought that I was going to be on crutches for a long, long time. Then, it started feeling a lot better rather quickly and within 3 to 4 weeks I was walking normally again. So, I'd say there is an outside chance he could play against Dallas, but he wouldn't be 100% and the thing could pop out again at any moment. I never had any surgery or anything and to this day if my knee gets put under pressure in just the right position I can feel it start to go again.
Also, the pain associated with the initial dislocation and the three to four subsequent re-dislocations I have had is EXTREME. What happened was, I was playing basketball in the driveway, drove hard to the hoop, and and smashed my knee on the bumper of the family Oldsmobile. I looked down and my kneecap was facing sideways. I reached down and popped that sucker back in. Owie! I went to the emergency room, where x-rays were negative and the doctor told me to consult a specialist about soft-tissue damage - gristle, tendons, etc I suppose. I never got around to it. |

Uh I don't think playoffs hope is all gone.. We still have Collins - I KNOW he's not that great but he is genius and does not make lot of mistakes (*knocks on wood*) we still have chance with Collins.. Unlikely with MB..... |

Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
Latest from JLC on JC--JLC will update again soon, apparently. (Note the Auburn curse--I was going to mention that yesterday.)
What I'm Hearing On Campbell Spoke to some sources close to him who say that barring something crazy showing up on the MRI - and the Redskins and their doctors do not expect anything severe in this case - that this looks like a 4 week injury. They are reading the MRI now, but the early sentiment expressed to Campbell was that it was "nothing major," and a standard dislocated knee cap. Coach Gibbs might not have the full word when he speaks to us at 3 pm, so we may have to wait until later in the afternoon to speak to Bubba and get the final word on the injury and Campbell's projected recovery. Also, to continue what has been a nasty trend, this is likely now the 4th member of that 2005 Auburn offensive, first-round draft class to suffer a season ending knee injury. Campbell follows teammate Carlos Rogers, Miami'a Ronnie Brown and Tampa's Cadillac Williams. Strange. |
Re: JC...how long does dislocated patella take to heal??
Gibbs said the MRI showed no tears or any further damage..it's painful but it just has to heal now..... Good News...
