Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I swore I thought that was #21 out there a few times tonight with the way he was flying around. Yeah the penalty was dumb, but I still like that kill shot mentality.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
That hit gave me the chills. It was kind of freaky how ST like it was. It was great seeing him as a force...striking a little bit of fear into some of those receivers.
He may get a nice fine for that hit.... |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I actually mentioned how ST like some of his plays were to my buddy
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I totally agree. I mentioned this in the game thread. He was on a mission tonight.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Probably has more to do with the position change then anything wouldn't you think?
But yeah he looked pretty Tayloresque out there, especially that one hit, that is SO something Sean woulda done as a rookie. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Agreed. Good to see him laying the wood, even if it was a penalty.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
It was a hit sent down from the Heavens. BOOM!!!!!!
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Just got back from the game and Im glad you guys noticed this too.
When he got flagged for that hit, which was ticky tack IMO, I actually turned to my buddy and commented how prior to that Sean Taylor was the only player I ever remember getting flagged for "hitting a defenseless receiver." Taylor will never EVER be replaced but it'd be nice to think Landry can come close to being that good one of these days. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
This is a weird thing to say but it made me feel a little better to watch that reciever get his ass handed to him. Penalty, I didn't care, it brought a smile to my face.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I agree. I didnt mind Landry getting the late hit. But....he does need to work on his hands during the off season. but best believe that he saw how Sean Taylor worked in practice and will try to duplicate him as much as possible. I hope(even though he will never be fully replaced)
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
The best play he made, IMO, was when he flashed in front of Berrian to prevent the late TD. That showed the elite skills that made him the 6th pick.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Landry has been flying around the last two weeks. He has shown great burst to the ball and a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Two great attributes that you love to see in a rookie.
Personally, I don't really mind the penalty. It tells upcoming opponents that we may be without 21, but that doesn't mean its safe to go over the middle just yet. It's worth mentioning that I thought Reed Doughty seemed to play well, too. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Eerily it seems like we already have Taylor's replacement (it hurts to type that) in place. Landry was everywhere, could/should have had 2 interceptions and was blowing people up all over the field.. Next year, with a whole offseason getting reps at FS, he's gonna be a star.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
He did look good...made some big hits and came up with a great play on the would be TD pass...too bad he didn't catch it....looked great. very pleased.

He even won a game for us with a huge hit. :) He'll make a fine replacement for Taylor once he starts catching balls, but we'll probably never have a tandem like we had with BOTH of them back there. We were downright scary at the safety position. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
This guy is a force. BUT......we need to get him in on some of the WR practices so maybe he can catch one of the two INT's they tried to give him last night.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I was there and I agree with all of you. Landry was playing like a man possessed. I told my buddy I was there with. And you know what SMOOT, Springs, and the secondary as a whole played lights out. I was really impressed though by Smoot, Springs, and Landry.
Great game as a unit guys. HAIL!! |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
This will piss people off, because it pissed me off, but I'm sitting here listening to NFL Radio with Bob Papa and Shannon Sharpe. Papa mentioned the Landry hit and asked why he wasn't ejected from the game given the league's memo a few weeks back talking about flagrant fouls resulting in ejections (I can't remember if that was specific to QBs or not). He also mentioned the possibility of a game suspension since this hit was Landry's third offense by this point (AZ, NYJ, CHI).
Just putting it out there. I know everyone is psyched about the hit (maybe you wouldn't be if it resulted in a Bear's score, or if it was Cooley that had gotten similarly decked). Anyone think a game suspension might be a possibility? I doubt the league would come down on the Skins like that at this time, but honestly Landry needs to be a bit smarter. My take on it was that if Muhammad did have the ball he needed to try to separate him from it, and it happened pretty fast in real time. It was pretty late, though. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I don't think he'll get suspended, but he'll get another fine for sure. But you know what, he's putting that "I dare you" reputation out there from the jump. It's just a matter of time before Landry starts being considered a dirty player.
Fine or not, ultimately it will pay off. |

Did you guys freeze out there last night? I was very surprised at the size of the crowed. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
The hit will probably cost Landry some $$, but I didn't see too many passes over the middle after that so he made his point. Landry looked fluid and like GW said before, once he recognizes something he flies to the ball and makes plays. He can definitely bring the lumber.
The secondary played awesome last night, even on the TD that Springs gave up it took a perfect pass and a great catch to beat him, couldn't ask for much more from Springs. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
We will probably never know how the murder of #21 has affected LL? They must have been pretty close as they trained (at least) many hours together.
That having been said, life changing events come in many forms. LL is already a good player on his way to potential greatness. That could accelerate, depending how he uses the passing of his brother safety, ST! He could not have a better model. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Laron has a ways to go but he is starting to show flashes. He is not in the realm of the impact player Sean is yet. He is a heck of an athlete, though remember in most of our opinions Sean was going to be a legend perhaps the best ever to play the game in his position. Good job so far for Laron, he is a rookie yet. :)
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Yes definitely.. I smiled and told my friend who is a HUGE fan of Bears, "I like that boy".. Even though it cost us a Bears td and LaRon probably will get a fine for it.. But it is definitely worth it, it will show WRs that we still have a guy who can lay a heavy lumber..
BUT I do not want LaRon to replace Sean, nobody can replace Sean.. Not even LaRon.. I want LaRon to be himself - represent #30.. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I absolutely loved the hit last night, but I wish he could've caught those two interceptions. Speaking of the hit does anyone have a video of it?
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
I was wrong earlier when someone asked if he'd move to free safety. Obviously GW trusts him back there & thinks his speed is needed.
He's really gonna have to step up & so far he has. It's so depressing to think about what could've been w/Landry & ST next year & after. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Collinsworth said that Laron was at FS. If so, it wouldn't surprise me if we saw him make more plays. He was definitely bringing the wood last night. I too was kind of happy to see Laron put the hit on MM, it reminded me of Taylor.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Landry a lot of people doubt him went we choose him I think everyone is happy as hell now. Just think about it what a 1-2 punch he & ST really would have been.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
You think they'll make another Mcgreggor (or whatever it is) commercials outa that hit?
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Landry played excellent, his speed really impressed. I wasn't in favor of the hit, though. Probably because I was worried that he would be ejected. My understanding is that when the league sent out the memo warning of possible ejections, a LL hit was one of the three examples included. I don't want a reputation to be used as an excuse to eject him next time. Also, I would rather win with class, not leading with the helmet and injuring an opponent with a dirty hit. (I am not saying this play was dirty, but I don't want to get there)

Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
landry was great as well at reed doughty. I think we are still stable with the safety position. though we miss no. 21 out there
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
i agree with everything being said here
im not too worried about picking up another Saftey in the Offseason Reed compliments Landry well and they seem to mesh well in the scheme Loved seeing the Hit. what i loved more is everyone at the resturaunt i was at saying "thats a sean taylor hit right there" he left a SIGNIFICANT mark on the game and will always be remembered whenever theres a big hit |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Oh I loved the way Landry played. I counted 3 big hits that game and every one made me get out of my seat. I hope he continues to head hunt like he has tonight, he has to be a little more careful about it though.

I was looking for it, but couldn't find it. I'd like to see it again too. As long as the "hitee" isn't hurt I enjoy watching those clips. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
He didn't catch the ball like Sean though... Could have had like 3 picks last night
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
landry played well, but he was to far back at times.
|
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
This is what makes me depressed though. To think, we could've had LaRon Landry AND Sean Taylor both making hits on receivers. Could've been an unholy partnership in the secondary! But, I am thankful that we have another hard hitter in Landry. He'll play smarter as he gets more game experience. I am looking for him to get more INTs. Hopefully that starts in our next game.

GW has been playing the FS deep all year. It's not Landry's fault. |
Re: Was Landry channeling Taylor tonight?
Nice to see that. Was he playing FS last night, he was back deeper than normal on like every play.
