ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
Interesting list.
ESPN's Top 64 QB's They had Campbell ranked at 18th, which I guess is pretty fair, but I take issue with Eli Manning and Vince Young being rated higher than him. This is what they said about Campbell:
Campbell is extremely talented and will be a frontline starter. He has the arm strength to attack all levels in the passing game while making defenses defend the whole field. While he could improve his accuracy in the short and intermediate areas in the passing game as well as his ability to process the reads while getting rid of the ball quicker, he has a bright future.
I'm thinking this was written by SmootSmack. :laughing2 |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
18th isn't too bad for a guy who has just over a year's worth of starts under his belt. What I want to know is why Mark Brunell didn't make the list ;)

Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
McNabb is Number 9. And I'm the Princess of England.
I was interested to learn that Todd Collins can scramble. I have no idea what they base that on. It's like saying Flozell Adams can kick field goals. Maybe he can but who can say? |

I kind of agree about VY, how can you say Campbell should be above Eli Manning. Manning gets alot of heat but his #'s aren't bad for a fairly young qb. Campbell may be better in a couple years, but not right now. |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
All i see is Patrick Ramsey > Mark Brunell

Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
Tood Collins is 40 something. This list must have just been done because they based it on that game.

He throws for a lot of yards, but his leadership is suspect. He's basically a slightly more polished version of Rex Grossman. He'll have a great week one week, then look a like deer in the headlights the next week. Campbell does have parts of his game that need refining, but he's a rock compared to Eli. I've yet to see him completely fall apart, like Eli does basically every December. |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
After that list got to about #25 it looked like they were picking names out of a hat.

Also, you get the feeling the team loves and admires Campbell a great deal. I think if you spoke to many Giants off the record, the opinions about Eli would vary more than we think. |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
That sounds about right. I don't see how he could be any higher at this point.

Yeah, you probably could split a few hairs and push him to sixteen maybe fifteen but that's it. |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
If the list is based on this year only, right at the current moment, then theres no way in the anals of hell that you can make a argument for McNabb over Garrard. Theres no place to start or finish.
If this is a career projection forecast, then you have issues all over the place. |

Yes he has had late year melt downs but I have been impressed with his play so far this year. Now of course I'm hopng that he has his melt down this week and the rest of the year for that matter. |

You're right, you're right...I don't know this for sure. But I have a feeling (sorry Schneed), but I have a feeling if Tiki felt this way, someone else, at least a handfull of other Giants shared that same sentiment. That being said, Tiki isn't the most lovable guy himself:) |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
How about Cutler at 11 over Campbell and Young. I think Cutler should be even with Campbell.

Granted, he has folded in a lot of big games, but he also has at least a few come from behind wins. The former out-numbers the latter, sure, but Jason hasn't given us many come from behind victories at all (just one, right? against the Jets this year) and I'm pretty sure that wasn't Doug Williams wearing number 17 when a plethora of 4th quarter interceptions kept the Skins from beating Dallas and Philly in back to back weeks this season. They seem pretty comparable, but Eli has more experience, and has had more success. Hard to reason putting JC ahead of Eli. |

I'm no fan of Eli's at all, but he has led his team to the playoffs a # of times. I don't see how JC should be ranked above Eli. JC really hasn't done anything yet. I think he will-I'd like to think he will, but this isn't a poll about who will be better, its about right now. Eli's had a good year. |

Campbell at number 18 is great seeing that he has only one year under is belt

Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
I have two issues with the rankings. 1st, I would not put Brady ahead of Manning. If Manning was a Patriot, he would have already had the record. Manning and Brady are of very similar age, look at the differences in stats. Granted Brady hasn't played as long, but he has in no way put up the stats that Manning has. Manning is the smartest qb to ever live.
The other issue I have is fairly predictable, and I won't even mention his name, but I will just say he's ranked way too high. (like gump says...that's all I got to say about that) :D |

Until then, I really can't say he's better than Manning. It just seems like an overreaction to a historically great season, and even recently he's started to disappear in some games. He's got two less years of experience than Manning, so its conceivable he could still improve, but until he does, I have to treat Brady's season as an abberation. McNabb had an excellent year in 2004...yeah, well what has he done since then. Wouldn't shock me if the same thing happened to Brady. Vince will improve next year when he's not so injured, but the media does have the delusion that he's going to develop into a good passer, which looks unlikely at this point to say the least. |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
man i really agree with their write up of JC. strong arm, needs to be more accurate in the mid range passing and HE MUST START TO READ DEFENSES QUICKER AND MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS.
go skins! stomp them giants! |

Plus he almost got to his 4th last year with below average wr's. |

Plus he is more accurate, with a quicker release, a stronger arm, and no running game

Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
If this hasn't already been posted, ESPN added to the list of top 64 QBs a list of QB Growth Stocks. Here's what they said about Campbell:
Jason Campbell, Redskins CAMPBELL WATCH Bullish: Appears to have a strong command of the huddle. Good physical skills. Bearish: Still learning the offense. Year-to-year 2006 2007 Comp. pct. 53.1 60.0 Rating 76.5 77.6 TD/INT 10-6 12-11 W-L 2-5 6-7 Coaches generally change a quarterback's throwing motion only as a last resort. Washington appears to have succeeded in helping Campbell, 25, overhaul his mechanics. Campbell has improved his completion percentage significantly, but he's still in the early stages of development. "He is a big, talented kid," the secondary coach said. "He can pretty much throw any ball you need. They are probably taking it easy with him with the idea of, 'Hey, listen, don't lose the game for us.' But he might be able to win for them with time." The AFC scout studied Campbell at length, starting with the seven starts Campbell made last season. "They really did a nice job of changing his throwing motion," the scout said. "They really shortened his stroke, which helped him. I was really surprised at how much better he got during the summer." Campbell might be more of a born leader than some quarterbacks. "He takes charge of things," the secondary coach said. "You don't see other guys in the huddle saying, 'Let's do this, let's do that.' They have some veteran guys. He carries himself that way. I'd be willing to bet he has good leadership ability." |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
Also, did anyone notice that our starting QB this weekend is ranked behind one Gus Frerotte in ESPN's rankings? Good lord . . .
|
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
looks like what i said two years ago ;) he really did improve massively over the summer (surprisingly so) and he's no longer a question mark as a starter (now if he can work on that fumbling problem...).

Yeah. Add it to the fact that Norv Turner is the head coach of a playoff bound team, and it's enough to make you cry. |
Re: ESPN Ranks the Top 64 QB's
Plus he is more accurate, with a quicker release, a stronger arm, and no running game
I assume you are saying Peyton is the better one, but just in case you weren't, and you are saying Brady was better... Accuaracy: Manning 64.0% comp. Brady 63.0% comp. Advantage - Manning. Manning has a stronger arm by far, and that is common knowledge. About the running game...they are actually very similar over the last 4 years: (pats 1st, colts 2nd) 2007, 14th - 12th (colts by only 2) 2006, 12th - 18th (pats by 4) 2005, 24th - 16th (colts by 8) 2004, 7th - 15th (pats by 8) Advantage, Patriots (barely). So the colts have a better running game this year by only 2 teams. Pretty damn close though. Overall, the last 4 years (including this year), the Pats have actually had a slightly better running game. But not by much. So the no running game comment doesn't really work for either team. It's too close to call. |
