Proud of the team for this season
Regardless of what happens on Sunday against the Vikings, I just wanted to take a moment to say that I'm proud of the team for the way they handled things and kept battling all season.
They have fought through a ton of key injuries and of course the Sean Taylor tragedy, and here we are entering week 16 still in the playoff hunt. I think we have to credit to Joe Gibbs for holding the ship together, the players for fighting through the adversity, and to the backups who have stepped in and contributed. Well done across the board. |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
I'll second that. And I'll go a step further, I think Gibbs has definitely earned the right to be back next year. Not that he wasn't going to, but given the circumstances, I still believe he should be back next season.
|
Re: Proud of the team for this season
And how. I think we a couple key moves and basically some luck on the injury side of the ball, we're going to be a great team next year.
Honestly, I'd forfeit this year's first round pick to God if he promised no injuries the whole season. |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
Well I'm proud of this team for part of the season. It seems that we had to back ourself into this corner to get fired up and play harder. I know we have had a ton of injuries but we should have atleast been 9/5 now and not 7/7. At 9/5 we would not be cheering for other teams to help us out.
|
Re: Proud of the team for this season
If we win out we don't need to cheer for other teams for help.
|
Re: Proud of the team for this season
No matter how they finish 7-9, 8-8, or 9-7..... Last year the Skins finished 5-11 and I quit watching them or caring the whole month of December. I will still be cheering them on, two days before Christmas this year and proud as heck for them, all things considered.
Got to stay healthly next year and move past the Cowboys somehow. |

We certainly should be more like 9-5, but we're not. In any event, that the team is 7-7 with the loss of Sean Taylor (arguably the bedrock of our defense) and the incredibly awful injury situation is nothing short of amazing. That we should be 9-5, were at some point leading or were in 6 of our 7 losses, and are in the playoff hunt should be a credit to Gibbs, the players, and the rest of the staff. This team isn't "there" yet, but it's damn close. |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
I am very proud of the team...especially how Gibbs held it together after Sean Taylor got killed.
I expected modest improvement to a 7-9 record...they are already there...without Randy Thomas, Jon Jansen, Carlos Rodgers, and now Jason Campbell, Rocky McIntosh and sadly Sean Taylor. There is no doubt in my mind Gibbs is one of the best coaches of all time holding a "team" together...whether he has the talent to go all the way is up to the front office and the players execution of plays. If nothing else, Gibbs was here this time to be here for the Redskins when they needed him the most.....the Sean Taylor tragedy. He is simply the best coach I can think of to deal with that. He has regained my confidence in him as a coach, but even more as a leader. |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
Allright, I can't hold back anymore. I wanted to write this if/and we have/will make the playoffs in order not to get jinxed. To me this season reminds me of the last season of Gibbs I (92/93 beat Minn. in wildcard game in Minn. and lost to SF in SF after Brian Mitchell fumbled in the niners 20 yard line to lose the game) If you guys recall that season we had some many injuries that Mitchell was our 3rd RB, our OL, DL were decimated and we still managed to win a playoff game and gave the niners a scare. To me that season was Joe Gibbs best coaching job ever, we didn't win a SB but what he did was astonishing until this season arrived. For all those people that called for Joe's job think how much this man has been through and what a job he's done with what he has. I hope we make the playoffs just so people take notice of how special a coach and human being this person is. I would also love to make the playoffs so he can be considered COACH OF THE YEAR because he sure as hell deserves it!!!!!!!

Re: Proud of the team for this season
You know, I've been starting to think something similar. I've been very frustrated with Gibbs' clock management this year, and some other things here and there. But when you consider all the crap this team has gone through, 7-7 is a pretty admirable coaching job.
It's not a coaching job up to par with what he used to do back in the 80s, because that Gibbs never made these kind of clock management mistakes. But Gibbs II is clearly just as effective as ever when it comes to bringing men together to scratch and claw and fight for a common goal, especially when faced with adversity. As for the players, they've done nothing but show heart the whole season. And amazingly, they haven't come apart at the seams, even after dealing with ST and Gibbs' double timeout against the Bills. Overall, I'm very proud of this team. |

Yeah that '92 team had a lot of heart. They practically willed themselves into the playoffs and should have beat San Fran. It was a veteran team that peaked in '91 and was on a slippery slope down. |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
I couldn't think of a better person to be leading this team this year than Gibbs. Think of how many teams would have turned on the staff and each other or just layed down and quit at different points in the season. The team has not even considered doing any of those things. That is strength in leadership ladies and gentlemen. Props to Gibbs, Snyder, the staff, and the "character" players we have on this team.

The effort that he has gotten out of the team facing mounting adversity this season has made me proud, and I hope Gibbs returns next season. Given what this team has been through, and the character in the locker room, I can see the Skins making serious noise in the NFC next year.

Re: Proud of the team for this season
Considering how inept our offense has been for much of the season, I am very reserved on my agreement to this post. We have only scored over 30 points once this season. I know that a bundle of guys have been injured, but that is no excuse. I dont think Saunder's offense is working for us and I really do believe in order to succeed we should get rid of him. But on the other hand, I do believe that Gibbs and Greg Williams have done a good job in coaching and prepping the team. There have been some questionable calls like the collapse of our offense and the goal line stand by the G-men late in the 4th or the game against Green Bay where we collapsed in the 4th even with Taylor's 2 picks.
But due to the circumstance regarding the death of taylor, injuries to Rocky, Jansen, JC, and Randy Thomas, I'm content and very proud of the team in general. It's been a bumpy road and no one has given up. |

Nobody is perfect. Name me any other coach including Bellichik who could have done this kind of job? No one!! For what this team has accomplished dealing with the murder of their best defensive player during the season and having lost 12 out of 22 players pretty much the whole season and still make the playoffs (if we make it) deserves coach of the year regardless of mistakes made. Some of those mistakes (double timeout) were caused by grieving and not having your head on straight. |

Re: Proud of the team for this season
without joe gibbs this team and organization would be in shambles with what they have had to deal with this year. i,m proud to say the least and seeing this team still in the hunt says something right there and they know it too.
this is what seperates the skins fans from all others in my book. |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
I'm seriously bummed out about Rocky. In some weird ass way, I'm more bummed about him being out for the remainder of the year than JC. I know they're two different injuries, Rocky's being the worse, but here's a guy who has a lot of upside and the defense really needs him, I think.
I mean, what else can happen? |
Re: Proud of the team for this season
I'm also very proud of the team. They've had to overcome more than any team I can remember from injuries to major players, a whole offensive line included, starting a "rookie" QB with great success and the death of one of their best players, perhaps one of the best in football on defense.
They're still .500 and in the playoff hunt. Despite all of the insane, mutiny-like cries from fans not looking at the whole picture, Coach Gibbs has done a great job at keeping the team motivated, focused on games and goals and playing through adversity they'd never imagine having to face. I'm glad Coach Gibbs was here to lead the team, I doubt any other coach could've done as good of a job considering all of the circumstances. Like his playcalling or not, he's a true leader and shows what it really means to be a Washington Redskin that never gives up. |

NO doubt, I wanted Gibbs back regardless of what's happened in the last few weeks, but given what they've been through, Joe has earned a lot of good faith from everybody. No one wants to go through that type of tragedy, but Sean's death & the injuries that have hit us this year, may have built this team's unity. There is always something positive to come from tragedy, no matter how hard it is to overcome. Gibbs deserves a lot of credit as does everyone else in the organization. This season might be looked back at as a turning point for the franchise. I think the experiences of this year will stick with Snyder et al forever, and having Gibbs essentially as a role model will to. |

I mean, what else can happen?
I'm bummed too, but I think JC's being out is going to have a more detrimental impact on the team... tc played great on thursday in relief, but that tends to happen when a backup qb comes off the bench, and often it takes a week for reality to sink in... that this guy was on the bench for a reason. In terms of Rocky, his play had been on the decline through the end of the season and I believe that godfrey is going to be available, along with blades and campbell (who tied the team for the lead in tackles and got amazing penetration on the huge andre carter 10 yd loss sack) so I don't think there will be a huge dropoff in linebacker performance. |

If the Saints win out they take our place as the sixth slot or we need the Giants to loose their last 2 games. So yes we do have to cheer for other teams. |

Well using Bellichick is a very bad example. He had two years back in 2001 & 2003 where he had over 40 different starters. If I'm correct they had WR's playing corner one year or may be it was a corner playing WR. To Joe's credit, he has kept the guys fighting and playing hard. A lot of teams would have packed it in with some of those really hard losses. Joe seems like the grandfather that you never want to let down, so these guys keep digging. Guys like Samuels, Jansen, Thomas, Daniels, London, Marcus, Smoot all seem to keep everyone on the same page and competing week in and week out. |

Re: Proud of the team for this season
This has probably been the most painful year to be a Skins fan, but here we are with three straight nationally televised games at the end of the season fighting for a playoff spot, Hell yeah I'm proud. Hail to the Skins!!!!

Re: Proud of the team for this season
It's like Mark Schlereth said after Taylor's death (and Boswell repeated in his column yesterday), people would jump in front of trucks for Gibbs. The guys on his NASCAR team that I talk to all say the same thing as well. That he's the best motivator they've ever been around. He knows what to say and when to say it to each and every person.
But it's not just him. The whole team has stepped up in a big way. And it goes back to what a lot of us had been saying for months, if not years. The players are taking responsibility for their actions, and are playing with more of a purpose than we've seen in a long time. No team has ever had to face what the Redskins did this year, and I hope no team will ever have to again. The way everyone from Snyder all the way down to Torrence has handled it has been remarkable. And yes I realize Torrence is pretty awful, but he's been put in a position he probably never should have been in this year anyway. |

Re: Proud of the team for this season
Troy Brown.
That season still doesn't compare to ours.
And that Pats team didn't blow 5 second half leads, hence my reasoning that Gibbs should not be considered for coach of the year. With better red zone and clock management, this easily could have been a 10-11 win season with a cake walk to a wild card. I am proud of the effort in the face of incredible adversity, and I praise Gibbs for holding the team together, but let's not give him a pass for some of the coaching clunkers (NY Giants and Philly) that put the team in a bind before Taylor died. All that said, I do hope Gibbs returns. He has given us greater stability than any other coach during the Snyder regime. I hope that we continue to add talent through the draft - some of the best players on this team were Gibbs draft picks. |

While I hate the Pats, let's not minimize the rash of injuries they overcame to win that 2nd Super Bowl.

Totally agree, what could he do with a healthy roster in the playoffs? Hell, if we make the playoffs let's see what he can do with 2nd and 3rd stringers? We beat the Cowboys with a bunch of nobody's during that strike season? Why not now? |

I agree. I'm not giving up on this team. The NFC is weak, and we seem to be getting stronger and more cohesive. |

im sure if we can go a season with out any injuries like we had this yr.. we would have atleast won 10 if not 11 games maybe more.. but we are always hit with the BIG injuries.

True, and part of that is the fact that we have the oldest team in the NFL. I think some of it should fall on the shoulders of our strength and conditioning coach. |
