UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
ESPN - Sources: ESPN's Parcells considering vice president offer from Falcons - NFL
I hear he's leaning toward yes. And he might bring in John Fox to be his coach next year, assuming the Panthers let Fox go. But I guess I'll ask the inevitable question as it applies to the Redskins. If Parcells does join the Falcons, it probably means Rich McKay is out the door as President and GM. So...should the Redskins go after McKay? For the record, I say no. |
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' President
Well this is consistent with his passion for turning around awful teams. I think he could be very succesful in this role. He'll have a chance to draft a high-impact qb right off the bat. Because this team is in such a transitional phase - with a lot of expensive vets likely to get axed sooner than later - he'll have an opportunity to mold the team in his own image.
And definitely no on McKay. |
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
I think that Gibbs is no longer an offensive genius, or at least not in todays game. However one thing Gibbs has always been is an evaluator of talent. Personally I love the players hes brought in, even Mark Brunell who eventually went on to lead the Skins to the playoffs and lets not forget Cooley, Moss, Washington, Griffin, Montgomery, Taylor, Landry, Kendall, Heyer, Ryan Clark, Rocky McIntosh, London Fletcher, Jason Campbell. Personally I love the idea of Gibbs eventually settling on a GM job. And now with a full clip of draft picks I think that the level of talent on the team is only going to get deeper. So to answer your original question no on McKay.

That is exactly my thought.. |
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
Wow. Parcells just can't stay away, can't he?
As long as Gibbs is head coach/Team President, he will never hire someone or suggest that someone else be hired to give him marching orders. So it will never happen. Still, in an ideal world, I'd go back to the formula that worked the first time -- have Joe Gibbs as the football coach, and have someone else bring him the personnel. |
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
Gibbs used to babysit Richie McKay. I think he would recommend him for any job in the league except one with The Redskins. Not happening.
|
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
no. i cant make it more simple. what has Atlanta done that would warrant me want McKay here? give their star qback a ton of money, without doing their homework. that team is falling apart, and is a long way away from being anything close to competitive
|
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
espn.com has updated this story - looks like the tuna is all but there.
The only way this has ramifications for the skins is if Gibbs decides to leave after the season & the danny hits the market for a coach. I don't see that happening. |
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
should also throw out the possibility that the Tuna asks the Danny's permission to talk to GW.
|
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
I like that the Falcons are looking to rebuild from the top down. Parcells might not have the touch anymore when it comes to coaching, but the guy has always brought in talent wherever he's been.
|
Re: Report: Parcells Considering Offer to Become Falcons' VP
i really like parcells as a coach, football mind and analyst. atlanta is a good fit for him in terms of how much they need to re-build and i wish parcells the best of luck.
i also like the idea of coach joe staying another year as coach or becoming a full-time GM/VP of the skins. but in all honesty i think when coach joe decides to stop coaching i think he is done with football all together and will go back to racing. go skins! |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
Ok, so now he's reconsidering. Because the Dolphins have come back with a new and better offer than they originally had given him recently.
Interesting since the Fins are rumored to be up for sale any day now. |

I agree. Parcells acquired a lot of good young talent for the Cowboys. I would go so far as to say that they wouldn't be where they are now without Parcells building their roster. |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
Wonder if he is mulling over coaching again? W/ the Dolphins? It wouldn't be a total suprise.
He's one of the best evaluators of talent there is around i've got to think. He leaves every team he's been w/ in good shape talent wise. Dallas is stocked unfortunately w/ young, talented, and inexpensive players for the next few years. I'd guess that BP could become a great GM. |

He's no dummy, the game is called show me the money. They guy is just playing one against the other for his services. |

I think he has to since his recent divorce hurt his bank account pretty hard! |

To me this rule of thumb applies to every NFL team! Heck all the top AFC teams (which I consider the better conference right now) use this approach of having a seperate GM than coach: The Patriots got Scott Pioli, Colts have Bill Polian, Pittsburgh has Kevin Colbert. I always thought the NFL was a copy cat league and when other teams want to have good consistent teams year after year like these 3 teams do, they would try and assimilate a front office structure in a similar pattern after these 3 teams. |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
Maybe he's thinking about Matt Ryan with that number one pick? From what I hear he's moving towards being a consensus number one.
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
I say no. I am not all that impressed with what McKay has done either in Atl or TB.
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
Here's an updated article on Parcells
ESPN - Parcells spurns Falcons, close to deal with Dolphins - NFL If the Giants let Coughlin go, it will be interesting to see if he joins Parcells wherever he ends up |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
ESPN radio is saying the deal is done.
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
4-year deal apprently. Crazy. All that's left for Parcells now is the Bills in the AFC East
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
according to Chris Mortensen, that is correct
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
ESPN - Source: Parcells signs on as Dolphins Executive VP - NFL (Updated as of right now)
You almost have to feel sorry for Arthur Blank. His franchise went from having a great future to having a huge mudhole stomped into it in about 12 months. Parcells could have really turned things around. I wonder what the motivation was to have Big Tuna go to Miami instead of Atlanta...and you might as well find a new job, Cam Cameron. |

Blank is a very hands on guy while Huizinga cuts the checks and stays in the background. |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
Did Jason Garret work with Parcells in Dallas or was he brought in after the fact?
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
They have never worked together...
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Reconsidering Falcons Offer, Interested in Dolphins Now
Wow.
Another chapter in the story of the Falcon's getting royally screwed by one guy after another. Vick throws his life away and gets jailed. Petrino skips town in the middle of the night after being all buddy-buddy with the owner the day before. Now Parcells appears close to a deal and then backs out for something better. Atlanta can't catch a break. |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
So I guess the tuna's not dolphin safe after all.
Uh, get it? Tuna, dolphins... you know you like it. (God damn I'm funny!) |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
This will probually turn out being the best move they've made in a long time in Miami IMO.
Parcells will get that thing turned around in time...... first things first, who's he gonna bring in to coach the team? |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
This will probably will seal Cam Cameron's fate, since Parcells will probably hire Maurice Carthon as his coach. I hope we pickup Cameron give him a coaching job and groom him as our next HC. Personally I think the guy is brilliant despite his record in Miami.
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
Cameron reminds me of another Norv Turner. Great offensive coordinator, maybe not the best fit as head coach and certainly not someone I would want having a say in personnel.
|
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
Unfortunately his relationship with Norv has created a bias. I think a second chance would disprove that. He screwed up on not drafting Brady, but the jury is still out on the kid he drafted. I would give him a chance, he could be better or as good as Garrett.

It occurred to me that the tuna might ask to speak to GW. Sounds crazy but Who knows? Since Cameron has only had 1 year & he's an offensive guy, I wouldn't be surprised if the tuna gives it at least another year, while focusing on getting some youth on the D. Merry Christmas Mike! |

Groom Cam Cameron to be........ what?!?! |
Re: UPDATE: Parcells Named Dolphins Exec VP
Names I've heard so far are Josh McDaniel, Mike Zimmer, Tony Sparano, Todd Bowles (yes that Todd Bowles), Jason Garrett, John Fox, and of course Cowher and Marty are always mentioned.
The last two are huge long shots. No way the Pats let McDaniels go to a division rival if they can help it. Cowboys will probably fire Wade before they let Garrett become a head coach somewhere else. Falcons probably would try to find a way to keep Zimmer from going to the Dolphins, especially after what just transpired. |
