Love for Portis....finally
It was nice to finally hear something good about Portis. Most anouncers say he's weak, and that he is not going to last long. Finally heard Madden say he is a good pick up for the Redskins, and that we got the better end of the deal. He always gives his best, but never seems to get the credit.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
I find that most announcers love Clinton Portis. Some here are critical of Portis, but around the league, I think most think he's a top tier back.
|
Re: Love for Portis....finally
I think Madden said it was a good trade for both teams. No doubt though, we've had line problems most of the year. It looks like they are finally coming around though just in time.
If portis had line consistency he'd be a 1500 yard back every year. Decent year this year anyway |

thats not really true... Troy Aikman with Joe Buck is always complimenting him as well as Kenny Albert w/ Daryl Johnston and (THE MAN) Tony Siragusa |

Bottom Line Is This Guy Is The Real Deal.cp Can Run With Speed Catch The Ball Out Of The Backfield And Is The Best Blocking Back In The League.i'm Real Glad He Is On The Redskins.he Out Preformed Peterson Last Nite.good Game Clinton.threw A Pretty Good Ball To Randle El By The Way Last Nite For A T D.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
CP's play last night had everything to do with me wearing a 26 jersey I had just bought earlier in the week. Every time he made a big play, I just pointed to my jersey and acknowledged, "It must be the jersey." So, it's what I'm sporting for the rest of our games (including playoffs) and for however long he stays a Redskin. Great Game CP!

Not to be a grammer nazi, but WTF is up with that capitalization? Yes indeed, CP is the real deal. |
Re: Love for Portis....finally
Yeah he's definitely one the great backs of his era. I'm glad we have him. People mistaken him for being a pre-modanna or arrogance, but he's just a good, hard working son of a gun with character. I love the fact that we always talks about things as a team and how to make the team better instead of the me me me persona.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
Madden has been loving Portis for a while now. And I think he said that both teams got a good deal with Champ and Portis.
|
Re: Love for Portis....finally
I think the difference the last 3 games for CP has been the addition of Heyer. This undrafted rookie is playing better than Wade.
|
Re: Love for Portis....finally
Im with you sfredskin on that one!
|
Re: Love for Portis....finally
Madden loves all RB, QB, and WR that aren't afraid to block.
Thats why he has a man crush on Farve. |
Re: Love for Portis....finally
Madden also said that he was the best blocking HB.
|
Re: Love for Portis....finally
Most of the people I hear bashing him are either skins fans who were in love with champ, or broncos fans who were bitter about him leaving after back to back 1500 yard seasons.
The only thing I hear announcers talking about is him either being injured, or playing with abandon and not preserving his body for a lengthy career. |
Re: Love for Portis....finally
Aikman referred to Portis as his favorite player in the league a few weeks ago.
As a whole though, he doesn't get as much love as he should. He singlehandedly carried Washington into the playoffs a couple years ago. He's stepped up in December again this year, and is extremely effective behind a makeshift offensive line. He's an animal. |
Re: Love for Portis....finally
CP has been awesome the last three weeks , knocked DE Tuck <NYG> on his ass twice . Lets hope for 150 yds againts the cowpukes Sunday !!!

Re: Love for Portis....finally
The juke move he put on the Vikings defender on that TD run was sweet, but it didn't hurt that the Viking on that play gave a lame effort. Still, I'll take it.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
I am just saying I never hear them refer to Clinton Portis when they are talking about great backs. I hear Aikman and Buck say some positive things, but I never hear them say "wow, that Clinton Portis" like you do when they talk about Ladanian Tomlinson. I honestly think that CP is as good as Ladanian Tomlinson. Its the same, when the Skins are doing good, they talk how great we are, when we're bad, CP sucks and can't handle the league any longer and that he is made of glass. Let's face it, Portis is a great back in that he does it all when given the opportunity

Re: Love for Portis....finally
All the announcers Say Some Good Things about Portis like he is a Great Blocker and A great Running back too,

I love CP, but he's in a second tier below LT. Nobody in the league holds a candle to Tomlinson. Barring a devastating injury (which LT seems to somehow manage to avoid), he'd be a safe bet to eventually own all the rushing records in the books. Every so often a guy like Larry Johnson or Adrian Peterson comes along and gets a bunch of hype, but none of them have the staying power or consistency of LT. |
Re: Love for Portis....finally
portis is a stud. my favorite back man. great blocker, works harder than is lead on, extremely explosive, fast, runs with his pads low, tough, can say enough about him...when healthy with a good line he would be right up there with LT, i garuntee it, look at his numbers. the guy has never run for less than 1300 yards in a season he played more than 8 games. stud.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
Let's remeber that Portis is capable of 1500+ yards when given the oppurtunity. I have never seen LT man up and block the hell out of somebody like Portis. I just wish the media would say wow, that protis is one of the premier backs in the league like they did in Denver. I don't think he gets enough credit.

i tend to agree with ya. he gets some love from the announcers calling the skins games, especially madden and aikmen but when it comes to those nfl shows, he doesn't get nearly the credit or recognition he deserves. |
Re: Love for Portis....finally
People tend to forget that CP is the 8th leading rusher in the league and is within 50 yards of the top 5 (for perspective, that's 3.5 extra yards per game). Not to mention 12th in total yards, which is really impressive considering how much time he spends back there blocking instead of sneaking out as the check-down option on passing plays.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
portis is the best blocking back in the league,LT can't touch him on that level.i have always liked portis, but it seems like it just took him longer to really open up this season.i guess that can be chalked up to not playing during preseason.

My thought exactly. Give him an offseason and preseason and he's top 5 again. Plus, there is nobody close to him in pass blocking. |
