Roy Williams Filling in for Sean Taylor in Pro Bowl

Cowboy's safety Roy Williams is filling in for Sean Taylor at the Pro Bowl. If someone already posted I apologize. Wish someone else could have filled in for him than that dirty ass guy.

Re: Roy Williams Filling in for Sean Taylor in Pro Bowl

I hate to say this, but I personally think Roy Williams feels quite honored to be selected to fill in for Taylor. I read somewhere that Willimas said he was looking for Taylor on the sidelines after the first game in Dallas to encourage Taylor to take care of that knee.

Williams aint my favorite player, but he damn sure plays hard every down.

As much as I detest the Cowboys and Roy Williams, I must admit that I gained some respect for them after ST's death.

I can see that. Williams might be the king of the horse collar tackle, but he is a stand up guy. I actually respect him.

I've seen interviews with him and he seems like a stand up guy, as for his horse collars that's another story.

Re: Roy Williams Filling in for Sean Taylor in Pro Bowl

Hate to be sour grapes, but I'd have preferred Landry. RW has done nothing this year but make an ass of himself, continually horsecollaring his way to mediocrity. If he didn't play for the Cowboys, he wouldn't even be among the top half of the league in votes at the safety position. I can think of 5 more deserving players, easily.

Well put

Personally I feel that there was no need to select anyone. Just leave the spot open in honor of Taylor

You are right 12th. Here's Williams quote on being added to PB roster:

"I appreciate being the first alternate to go," said Williams, who is going to the Pro Bowl for the fifth straight year. "We are going to do something special for Sean and his family."

Had no idea Williams said that. You know, many of these guys have a ton of respect for each other away from the grid iron. Without knowing for sure, I really believe Taylor had a lot of guys around the league that really respected him for the way he would bring it on Sundays. Conversely, and it has nothing to do with this thread, that's why Philip Rivers jawing is leaving a bad taste in peoples' mouths after he was talking smack last week.

As much as I like to trash Cowboys and degrade the Dallas players, I remember how considerate and respectful they were about Taylor after he died, so I feel as though we owe a bit to them when discussing their players within the context of Sean Taylor's death. I dislike Roy Williams as much as anyone when the Cowboys are playing the Redskins, but my gut tells me that Taylor probably respected Williams as a player, and we know Roy respected Sean.

I think all Redskins in the pro bowl should wear 21....since our team cannot represent him.
I do not understand why anyone other than a redskin should play in place of Sean Taylor.....especially not from the cowboys...that just sucks...

I do not want to see a cowboy wearing a redskins helmet, number or jersey...if he makes it as an alternate...he should play as himself.

I definitely am. I can't explain it and it's sick, but I keep imagining what the night of his death was like. Images of Taylor gasping for air, Jackie covered in blood, the baby crying, Taylor bleeding on a gurney, flatlining in the OR, and squeezing the nurses hand haunt my brain even though I didn't experience anything first hand. I keep asking myself, "Did he suffer" and "Was he semi-conscious when he squeezed that doctor's or nurse's hand?" It's crazy and it sucks. I will never forget the feeling I had when I read on CNN.com that Sean had been shot. I still don't think I've fully come to terms with the fact that we will never see him in uniform again.

I keep thinking that both Sean Taylor and my roomate from college died this past fall the same way; by getting shot in femoral artery and bleeding to death. Up until three months ago I wouldn't have had a clue what the femoral artery was or that getting shot in the leg could kill you. Both died as heroes and I hope won't ever be forgotten.

I agree with everyone that said they gained some respect for the Cowboys after Sean's death, and off the field I know how much respect Roy Williams had for Sean so I'm sure he will do something special to honor him. RW may suck in coverage but he's one of the classier players in the league.

Re: Roy Williams Filling in for Sean Taylor in Pro Bowl

I am on board with the whole "gained new respect for the cowboys and Roy Williams" sentiment. As much fun as it is to hate the Cowboys and their players, I bear them no real ill-will. Almost every Cowboy fan who has posted on this site has been respectfully contentious. At games, Cowboy fans are, at times, obnoxious as they root for their team but, from my experience, rarely are they assholes.

With respect to ST's death, I think it indicative of the fan base that, while both Cowboy and Giants fans have come on this site and expressed their remorse and respect, Eagles fans have been nowhere to be seen. Personally, heresy though it may be, I have a great deal more hate for Eagle's fans then Cowboy's fans. It is my sincerest hope that we can win the SB, if for no other reason than it will cause Philly fans to implode and sink into a bile ridden swamp of envy and bitterness.

Sorry for the hijack - to repeat: Props to Roy Williams for his comments.

I got that calendar for my birthday. I had a discernible moment of silence when I saw Sean on the January page. I told my wife it still feels weird that he's gone.

Re: Roy Williams Filling in for Sean Taylor in Pro Bowl

For the record, and I have said this on my Cowboys forum also, I do not think Roy Williams earned that spot, there is no way he should have finished that high in the voting. The best thing to happen to a Tight Ends career is Roy Williams in coverage. Just ask Chris Cooley. Many Cowboy fans echo my sentiments as well.

I, for one, am a proponent of not filling that roster spot as a fitting tribute to Sean. It is his, he earned and it is his in life as it is in death.

On a side note I have to say that the animosity between Cowboys and Redskins is solely with the fan base. We hate your players, you hate ours.

But the truth of the matter is that Roy and Sean were actully really close friends. Not just mutal respect, but they were truly friends. And RW will be the first one to tell you that. Not sure if you guys know it or not, but the entire Dallas safety corps took time off to go to Seans funeral and visit with his family.

I agree about the Giants and Cowboys fans, they've been nothing but supportive and nice about the whole situation. Eagles fans though, I lost what little respect I had for them when I went to some random Eagles board and I saw that pretty much everyone there was referring to the Redskins as the Femorals. Then again I shouldn't have been too suprised anyways.

I'm the same way. I can't count the number of times I've thought "Well it will be awesome next year having Taylor and Landry back there." Or I'll just expect to see highlights of him or catch him on the screen. Still hasn't quite sunk in that this is permanent.
