I can't wait till next year

Hopefully Gibbs will sign the extension and comeback, then we need to have a strong off season. We need to fill some glaring needs, a DE, CB, OG, Big WR and LB. We should be able to address this thru the draft and free agency and comeback next year like we did in and 91 and blow everyone away, no mercy.

Re: I can't wait till next year

I think outside linebacker would be a good way to go in the the 3rd or 4th round. I like HB Blades, but he's more of an inside guy and this team needs someone who can come in and possibly play next year with Rocky probably missing the season. Also, I don't think it's too early to think about the future at OLB on Marcus's side. I don't think he'll be around much longer, more because he's starting to get up there. At age 30 and his injury history, I don't think having some depth at the position would be a bad idea.

There's always next year if I live long enough, and the year after, and the year after that, etc etc.

What exactly is this thread about? Offseason moves we should make?

Big C 01-05-2008 08:51 PM

Re: I can't wait till next year

the holes i saw today were as follows

we have a glaring lack of speed in the linebacking corps i believe, we should see if we can bring in a speedy guy atleast for 3rd down coverage. we were struggling to get to the sidelines during the game

obviously we need more o-line depth

we had little pass rush throughout the game, we need to bring in a DE, id prefer through free agency i dont feel comfortable drafting a dlineman very high, if we do draft i hope not with our first round pick

more depth at cornerback. yes rogers is coming back but we still need someone just in case.

maybe bring in a wide receiver but i think we can survive with what we have.

im really excited for next season, hopefully we dont see any wholesale changes or a change in coaching, etc. like we saw last time in 05

I Cant Wait For '08 Season, Jc Is Gonna Be Healthy And Is Gonna Continue To Become A Star Qb! Our Line Will Be Healthy, But We Will Add Dept, We Are Not Old, So Thats A Good Sign. Landry Will Be A Pro Bowler, And Cooley Will Be A Top 5 Te! I Think Gibbs Will Return And Possibly Gw As Well. So It Looks Like To Me That We Will Again Be A Playoff Team.

Re: I can't wait till next year

cooley still drops a lot of passes for being an elite tight end i think

gabe1984 01-05-2008 09:08 PM

I think there are too many problems on this team to expect them to be a contender next year.

1) Our offensive line is getting old. I won't be surprised if they cannot stay healthy next year either.

2) Our receivers are small and inconsistent.

3) Cooley drops way too many passes.

4) Portis is constantly banged up, he does not have the break away ability he used to have.

5) Our corners are average and getting old. Save Carlos, he's young, but I still don't know if he's any good.

6) Pass rush is weak.

However, I'm proud of them for digging themselves out of a hole and making the playoffs. I'm happy with the result of this season.

A lot really depends on the injury status of Rogers and Rocky. Even still I find it hard to believe there aren't many positives to look forward to

Oh yes you can. We have a bonus of undrafted FA that came thru for us Alexander, Heyer, Mason, Buzbee, etc. A DE, CB, OG can be had in 3 rounds, the other holes in FA.

IMO, it's wishful thinking to believe that we can address all those problems with draft picks next year. Finding starting a starting caliber DE, CB, and OG is tough. Heyer played okay for us, hopefully he'll work hard in the off season and be better next year.

sign Jared Allen, Lance Briggs will probrally want to join us. Springs is likely gone. Hope we draft Limas Sweed. probrally pick up dry bly after he is cut. On a side note did you guy Darrly Tapp former Hookie, man we should of picked him up!! Another kid is Justin Harper of VT I would love to see him in a skins jersy

Who are you and what have you done to jsarno, a REAL skins fan?

Has the eternal beacon of hope from the Southwest dimmed tonight? I hope not. It is fine to be melancholy tonight but I expect to see you back to your optimistic ways by next fall.

Good job this year jsarno, keeping hope alive...Hail Skins.

It will be before then. I'm just depressed about the loss. I live for the Skins, and I FULLY expected to beat the Seahawks...there was no doubt in my mind, so I am still in shock a little. Also, now I have to deal with Taylor's death. I need to put his jersey back in the closet (haven't put it away since his death), and I always felt he was there with us, and now that we lost, I know he's not. It's a depressing time to come to the realization that we lost. It sucks.
To make matters clear, I still feel we will be a playoff team next year, but it's going to be a very hard road this offseason which I am not looking forward to.

I know. Still LOVE my skins though. I'll be back to normal in a couple days or so. I leave for Hawaii in a couple weeks, so I'm sure I'll be fine after that! :D

Re: I can't wait till next year

Campbell's full grasp of the offense is the most significant challenge to overcome in the offseason. Look at how much quarterback play can buoy a team. Though the Giants are the only team in the playoffs who win in spite of their QB, all the rest of the 10 contenders this postseason boast efficiency at QB. Vince Young makes up for his oft-inaccurate passing with quick feet. Phillip Rivers is serviceable and a fiery leader. I don't have to make points to sell you on any of the other QBs currently carrying their respective teams on their shoulders.

Once we have Jason running the O smoothly and efficiently, and finally break the barrier of scoring more points per game than the league average (25 ppg would be ideal), then everything else will fall in place. It is a pass-first league predicated on solid QB play, and if Jason doesn't make big strides in the offseason, we're in for another mediocre season.

Dude, don't ruin another thread because a thread you liked is closed.

The glaring questions in my mind are 1- will the ENTIRE coaching staff be back, and 2- can we overcome the cap issues to get adaquate players in our areas of need?

i cant believe most ppl in here are saying we are going to do poorly next year. adressing the age of the o-line, its not young but in terms of age the o-line isnt too old either. o-linemen generally play into their mid thirties or even later, the only one we need to really be concerned with their age is kendall. jansen is a concern because of injuries but samuels rabach and thomas should be fine.

I guess I haven't been paying enough attention, but it seems there is just concern from where I am sitting...I don't think anyone is calling it a season next year already...but again, maybe I'm not paying enough attention.

On the way to the Dallas game next week, I saw Skins plates that said "NEXT YR". Kinda made me chuckle. We've been saying next year for so long.

I've gotten so I actually like the offseason, because there are no get-up-and-go-to-work-after-a-loss Mondays.

I think we're headed in the right direction, though. Continuity is key; no need to make wholesale changes.

Back to the future 1 was out in 85.
Back to the Future 2 was out in 89.
Back to the Future 3 was out in 90.

Just kidding. :D

I think I saw it once when I was in high school. I remember the premise of the movie, but not the details.
