Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
I caught some of his show after the game and he was going off on how the Seahawks where piping in horns and crowd noise. My father was listening to him durn the game and said that Sonny was saying this throughout the entire game. My father also mentioned that Sonny was taking his mike and sticking it out so you could hear the horns playing while we were running plays. Has anyone heard this or could add to what was going on? I'm not making any excuses but was wondering if it was only Sonny talking about this and I would think that those horns would be treated like a band and must stop before the team huddles.

Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
Blah who cares.
Seems like anytime a stadium has a loud crowd, someone tries to accuse the home team of this. Sounds like sour grapes to me. |
Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
It happens at Fed Ex, so I don't think the Skins should complain.

Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
The way the o-line played they could have had helicopters hovering over the field and it wouldn't have mattered.

sorry, I was just stating in general that the "piped in noise" complaint sounds like sour grapes. |

Well part of their problem was because of not being able to comunicate with each other. I heard one Redskin (cannot remember who) say they had a hard time hearing in the huddle getting plays called. |

Uh-oh, looks like we might get into a huge arguement here again, but you're right. Although to be fair, I didn't notice this happening at FedEx at any game after Arizona this year. As for Seattle, Mike Sellers basically said as much last week prior to the game. That being said, I think that the stadium was designed very well so that the sound is completely directed towards the field (something they really botched when they designed FedEx). |
Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
Seattle has the Bionic 12th Man - electrically enhanced.

I sit directly under a speaker at Fed Ex. I've heard it for years. I think I only noticed it stop after Taylor's death (Buffalo, Chicago, and Dallas). I wasn't at the Eagles game, though, so you may be right that Arizona was the last time. |

Yeah it definitely hurt the O-line's performance. With the noise they probably weren't able to make all of their pre-snap line calls, and the d-line had the jump on them every time. Yes the Seahawks have a good pass rush, but I think on a neutral field the results wouldn't have been the same. Their 12th man is no joke. |

Yeah, we got into a big arguement here on the site about this earlier this season so I don't want to rehash it, but I also sit under the speakers at most games (my friend has season tickets in 429 and I go to about 8 games a year including preseason). I think that if you're not right under the speakers you don't hear anything. I say this because I was in the upper level endzone for the lions game and since there aren't any speakers in that area you can't hear a damn thing, including the PA announcer/music. |

Just don't think we should be complaining about others doing what we do. You're right about the endzone, though. I sat over there once and couldn't hear anything. Then back in my main seats, I can't hear the person next to me because I have a speaker blasting in my ear. |
Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
Well the Seahawks D had to play when the Skins were on the field they seem to be able to communicate ok.

It's a lot easier to make defensive adjustments (hand signals) than it is for say the center to try to verbally communicate blocking assignments to the rest of the line. |

that's pretty much why. Plus, the D is allowed to move around prior to the snap so, for example, a linebacker is free to move up to a DT to tell him to move over to a different gap. There's also the fact that it's their home field, so I'm sure they're more used to working in that environment. |

I definitely heard the pumped in noice at FedEx so we don't have room to complain. The one thing I will say though is that if it's true it's a shot to the so called "12th man" nonsense.

Even if all the sound is 100% crowd-made and they have every speaker in the place turned off they're aided by acoustics, and maybe a little more caffeine than most other places, but that's about it. |
Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
Matty , I understand that but if you watch the film you'll see that does'nt help when the LBer is calling out changes in coverage and stunts since he is "behind the D line and in front of the D backs.

So what are you getting at here exactly? That a defense is equally hindered by a loud crowd as the offense?? |

You would think that the largest stadium in the league would be accused of piping in the sound at FedEx. But what is very clear, and that is the Seahawks cannot win outside of Washington with or without the 12th man. I remember RFK and no stadium rocked like that stadium, but a stadium that's not enclosed on either side creating that kind of noise? I believe Sonny. |

Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
The thing it does is it allows Kerney to start the play well before Heyer almost every time. The snap is predictable when you're going on rythm - it has to be. I would be curious as to how many of his 13 sacks were gotten at home and how many on the road. I don't buy Seattle's argument that the roof design "traps" the noise. A dome would "trap" all the noise and Seattle's stadium seems to be far louder than any of the domes. Also you have to consider what type of people live in Seattle. Are they the types to yell at the volume required to obtain that level of noise for three straight hours? I doubt it. It's not exactly the blue collar capitol of America. The crowd shots during the game are proof enough for me. Most of them didn't look like they were making any noise at all.

I think the fact that they've had the rep as being the loudest fans or the loudest stadium or whatever for a few years now probably makes people who would normally be a bit more reserved want to be louder so that they live up to the hype. If they think that they're supposed to be the loudest fans they're probably going to act accordingly.
Man, my old sociology professors would be proud of me. |

10.5 at home. 4 on the road. 3 of the 4 on the road were against the Rams who were starting pizza delivery guys on the OL. |

If people read what I posted Sonny was saying this at the begining of the game before he had any idea of its out come. He said he heard the horns blowing while we were trying to run our plays and they were pipping in sound. We lost and thats it I was just curious if anyone noticed this or listened to Sonny durn the game. My father listened to part of the game and in the first half Sonny was sticking his mike out the window so people could hear the horn noise. |

As someone who was there I can tell you that every single god damn Hawks fan in that stadium had their hands around their mouth and were booing to their heart's content the entire game when the Skins were on offense. |
Re: Sunny Jerguson Seahawks Piping In Sound
Folks, the bottom line is that the Skins need to win their division so they wouldn't have to be the away team.
