Thank you to Joe Gibbs
He may never see this thread but I just wanted to send out my own personal thanks to Coach Gibbs and give everyone here the chance to do the same.
Thank you for coming back and attempting to restore some order to a franchise that was in disarray since you left in '92. Thank you for guiding the team through one of it's darkest hours during the tragic death of Sean Taylor. And thank you for giving us one last ride with a true coaching legend. Even though you were unable to bring another Super Bowl title back to D.C., your efforts are appreciated and the franchise appears to be on much more solid ground today than it was 4 years ago. Thank you for being a true Washington Redskin. You will forever be the coach of the Washington Redskins. |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
I don't think I can say it better than Matty. Gibbs, you are the Washington Redskins. You're the main reason why I became a Redskins fan in the first place. You will be missed!
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
I think Matty said all thats needed to be said.
Thank you coach Gibbs for bringing back Redskins pride. |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thanks Mr. Coach Gibbs for coming back and helping restore the lost identity of this organization!
You are a GREAT man and also a GREAT leader of men! Hurts to see you go, but thank you for everything! |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
lol...I'm actually crying a bit over this news...
Thanks for the memories Coach...Good Luck to you and your family... |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Yeah, I'm on board with this
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Well said, Matty. It has been a nostalgic feel these last four years, and I'm truly grateful and blessed to have watched this coaching legend on the sideline once again for these last four seasons. Coach Gibbs has restored this franchise back to respectibility, and his final season will rank up there with his greatest coaching jobs.
Coach will truly be missed and I hope he continues to have success with his endeavors in NASCAR as well as his consulting role with the team. You won't find a better coach or man, for that matter, than Joe Gibbs. Thanks for the memories Joe!!!! |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
thanks for the memories and best of luck in the future!
go 'skins! |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank you coach Gibbs. You are the reason I became a fan in the 80s and the reason I will forever be a Washington Redskins fan. Through the good and the bad, we've stuck this thing out together. I'm so proud to say that I'm a Redskins fan.
Sir, you personify integrity, character, and leadership. A very rare combination in today's world of professional sports. l also wanted to thank you for drafting Sean Taylor and the way you handled his untimely passing. It was great having such a shining star wear burgundy and gold during his career. Like yourself, Sean will forever be a Redskin. Thanks. Mr. Gibbs, you leave behind with your legacy intact, but more importantly a team of great guys that will never, ever forget the impression you left on their collective lives. Thanks for everything you've done for this great city of Washington D.C. Mayor Fenty should figure out a way to do something very nice to honour you. 12M |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs

I love the man. He's a great role model not only for sports but for life. I gotta say though, I'm pretty annoyed today. He stirred up a QB controversy yesterday then unexpectedly quit today after repeatedly telling everyone he intended to honor the full terms of his contract. I'll get over it, but I'm a little pissed right now. |

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank you Coach Gibbs for:
-Not once, but twice saving this franchise from mediocrity. - John Riggins, 70 Chip moment is SB XVII. - Doug Williams 2nd Qtr of SB XXII - 1991 Skins dominant season and SB XXVI - Darrell Green's body slam of Jerry Rice in the 1992 playoffs - Two miraculous drives to the playoffs in the last three years. - Being able to have 3 Superbowl pictures on my walls - Being able to trash talk about 8 Broncos fans out the room during SB XXII - Being able to argue the 1991 Skins were the best ever. - Being the guiding hand of faith, composure and comfort during the difficult time of Sean Taylor's death. - Cultivating and showing the world the talents of: Sean Taylor, Laron Landry, Chris Cooley, Jason Campbell, Darrell Green, Art Monk, Joe Jacoby, Russ Grimm, Charles Mann, Neal Olkewicz, Joe Theisman, John Riggins, Dexter Manley, Jeff Bostic, Gary Clark, Earnest Byner, Mark May, Joe Bugel, Richie Pettibone and so many others. - For 18+ hour days and countless hours away from your family so the Redskins could be successful. - For helping Dan Snyder grow as an owner and person. - For "fighting your guts out" every day not only to win on the field but to make the lives of everyone around you better. - For being an inspiration for all of us to make the choice to do the right things, the right way rather than the quick and easy way. -For bringing honor, respectablity and class to the Redskins now and always. You will always be the face of the Redskins. Thank you for all these things and bringing enjoyment and passion to all true Redskins fans' hearts. May God Bless you and your family as you move forward to the next phase of your life. |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank you Coach. Enjoy your grandkids. I hope you remain with the organization this time in some vein.
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
All the best to Joe & his family & much gratitude for the years of greatness in the first go round, plus the years of excitement & hope that he brought in his second stint.
This will undoubtably be talked about this weekend by those paid to do so, but I feel Gibbs' second stint here was a sucess & added to his legacy. He got us in the playoffs with some exciting wins & has left the team in good shape. Can't ask for anything more from him, may he enjoy retirement. |

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank you so much Coach Gibbs, as I realized this morning that you were the primary coach of the Redskins for more than half of my life. I love the person you are and the Hall of Fame coach that you are. You are the best leader that I have ever seen, and as a swim coach today I take a lot of the lessons that you personified. I know that you are going to serve as an advisor to the Redskins and are a true Redskin for life. I wish we had a few more years with you as our head coach, but I realize that you are true to your word and that your family needs you too. You are apart of our family forever. I know that you are going to be an advisor to the team and we are lucky for that. I love you and your family and the Redskins for life!!!!! :)

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank you, Coach Gibbs. You brought my team back to respectability. To me you will always be the face of this franchise. Best of luck to you, your family, and all involved. You gave us all great memories.

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thanks Joe for coming back and showing a new generation of Redskins fans what it means to be a true Redskin. Although we didn't make it back to the Super Bowl you did bring respectability back to this franchise. In my eyes you will always be the best coach and man to ever walk the sidelines. We love you for the man you are and everything you’ve done for our team. I think I speak for the mast majority of Redskins fans when I say we will always have you in our hearts. HTTR!

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thanks for the memories, Joe. Thanks for bringing this franchise back to some degree of respectability, instead of leaving it in about as poor condition as it can be, and mostly, thanks for guiding this team through this troubling season.
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
I didn't really get to enjoy Gibbs v1.0 and I wont' be able to say I got to see Gibbs v2.0 go to the Bowl. But I do have to say thanks for the fact that this team is a hell of a lot better than it was when he first came back.
Good job Joe. Shame we couldn't see more. |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
We should all use a Joe Gibbs avatar for the rest of the week in his honor
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thanks for all your hard work coach. And thanks for coming back to do it all again even though you knew what it would be like. Thanks for the joy you gave us on all those Sundays.
I feel like Bob friggin Hope here. How about that Angie Dickinson, she's something huh? |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank-you coach. Best wishes in retirement. You are a living legend and your immortallity is assured in this realm as well as the next.
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thanks for 4 AWESOME years and getting the team back into contention for the Superbowl .... Thanks for the great memories ... I wish him the best of luck and hopefully everything goes well with his family.
|
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
I was in my car driving from Rehoboth to Baltimore when I heard this. (The only upside was that it put me in Redskins Radio range).
We were broken in 2003. We're a lot closer to fixed now - in so many ways. Your steadying hand helped heal an organization. In this year, when we suffered so greatly, you helped our players remain strong and steadfast - which helped the rest of us heal as well. You gave hope to the hopeless in a dire time. Thank you. |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Thank You Joe Gibbs!
I grew up with Gibbs as coach... 9 years old when he started and almost 21 when he finished his first tenure. Only real playoff or winning the Redskins have ever done has been under Gibbs (other than the 99 Norvel Tampa trip)... I understand him stepping down and I truly appreciate him coming back. Gibbs has given validity to the Snyder era and put us on a course for which we should all be thankful. Gone are the career 'enders' Deion, Bruce Smith. We have veterans like Godfrey, McCardell, Caldwell who are still impact players while filling the team with youth. Landry, Rogers, McIntosh, Campbell. I would bet that Joe Gibbs would grant an interview by the redskinswarpath rep in some capacity... HTTR!!! In Gibbs We Trust! |
Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
thank you joe well for being the man you are and being the best coach in the world.best of luck to you in the future.

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Wow, all great stuff in here, Slingin Sammy had some great moments in his post. I have been a skins fan since age 4 and am now 36, What else can I say that hasn't been said. I think all of the players during all of those years had someone in their life that they can appreciate not only for football but for life. As a fan I can say that I was always proud of the titles more than any other fan from any other team, to some franchises it seems to be expected but I think Joe always kept everything in perspective and was probably one of the greatest leaders in sports period. Joe thanks for all of the moments, the memories and the superbowls. You will be greatly missed.

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Gibbs really rubbed me wrong several times the past few years as a football coach, but as a person? It would be an honor just to meet him. Strong faith, family man, just basically one hell of a human being. I wish him and his family the very best. God bless them and all of us on this forum.

Re: Thank you to Joe Gibbs
Just think. The last win Joe Gibbs gave us as the Redskins' head coach was a big win over our rivals, The Dallas Cowboys. Thank you Joe Gibbs! A fitting end to a glorious career.
