Chargers and Norv
I know that there's a lot of Norv bashers in this forum, but you have to give him credit for taking his team to the conference finals. Marty chokenheimer couldn't do what Norv did. Go Chargers beat the Patriots and win the SB!!
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
Ugh, the only team that i can even handle winning the super bowl is the packers. Lets hope.
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
if norv wins the super bowl i'll throw up. i give him very little credit, if any , for taking that team to the afc finals.
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
Norv needs to be fired like the worthless coach he is. The only team left i am rooting for is the Packers
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
Not finding any love for Norv here. I can't stand that pockmarked clown. I'm saying Pats 45 Chargers 17. Anybody know how bad PR and LT were injured?
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
I got ready to start a thread on this, but this is close enough I guess. When Rivers came out of NC State (which I watched a lot of his games) I really thought he was going to be a great NFL qb....but no matter how good he is or will be, I have completely lost respect for him with all his trash talking he does on the field. When I saw him yelling "big f..ing baby to Jay Cutler in that game, I was shocked...and then after the win today, there he is barking at the fans rubbing it in when he couldn't even finish the game. I'm not a big fan of that crap from any player, but especially not from a qb....it's just classless.
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
Damn, how about some credit for Norv. Great win today.
Hey guys, guess what...you can't win w/out good players. Norv didn't have good players as a skins coach and horrible players as the Raiders coach. His year or two in Oakland shouldn't even count. Maybe not a great coach but give credit to an ex skins coach, an excellent offensive mind, and an overall nice guy. |
Re: Chargers and Norv
Rivers is going to be a great QB in this league, but the trash talking has to stop. It is immature and it only makes him look like a clown.
|
Re: Chargers and Norv
More negativity...more insults...to an all around nice guy. Some of the comments here are worthless. How about some incite as to why he's a "clown."
How about some class skins fans? |

i agree 100%. he come across as being very childish |
Re: Chargers and Norv
This sucks that SD won...Indy was the only team left I thought could beat the Pats.
I personally hold nothing against Norv, or the Chargers and I'll be pulling for them. Norv did his best for us, he was mildly successful, so why hold anything against him? It's not like he called us a bunch of jerks or anything. Why not wish him success? He learned a lot from us that he is likely using now. |

I disagree. If they get LaDanian, Rivers, and Neal back next week (more than likely) they match up well. |

It's a no win situation! |
Re: Chargers and Norv
I have no problems with Norv either...just wasn't the right coach for us at the time...and certainly not under the pressure Danny was putting on him. I hated the way they ran him out of here.

Chargers can't beat the Patriots. Oh, and yeah, Patriots will win another Superbowl! Go Patriots!

How about some class skins fans?
As for insight, he's a cowboy who was completely useless as our head coach. Always looked defeated before we even played the game. Hell, he spent half the game whining to the officials today. Nice is great and all but it doesn't get it done. I agree with others who've said the team's success is centered around the roster and not the HC. I've never watched a Norv coached game and said, wow that was a great adjustment or what a nice call. Point's going to be moot 7 days from now anyway, after they get destroyed by NE. |

I honestly will be pulling for it. I just don't see it though. Then again, I didn't see us losing to Seattle and that did happen. Neal is an important key, but overall, the Pats are just overmatch the chargers. Hopefully the Chargers will remember being disrespected in the playoffs a couple years ago by the pats. Maybe they will have a huge chip on thier shoulders. We can only hope. |

I thought he said "players" as in plural. Randy Moss can't do it alone. |

I disagree, when Danny took over he got rid of Trent Green and brought Brad Johnson that was the downfall. Green went on to put up some # and make a few pro-bowl's Johnson took us to a playoff, but overall Green was much better. I blame Danny mostly. |

C'mon dude. To compare Marty to Norv is a serious joke. Norv is a yes man who is riding the wave. |

Yeah, Snyder really was a big problem. Norv did his best for us...I won't hold that against him. |

Didn't Snyder buy the team in 1999, after that playoff season? |
Re: Chargers and Norv
Anybody remember Bill Callahan taking Oak to the SB? That's how I see Norv's success this year. Schottenheimer put together a tough team and now Norv is riding those coattails as far as they'll take him.

And let's not forget Danny's big push for jeff george over johnson...that was brilliant too. Brad was a pretty solid qb, not amazing, but solid. |

You can't blame Snyder for the Green/Johnson situation cause he didn't have control of the team until the moves were already made. Trent Green was already gone before Danny got the team. Charley Casserly was the one who brought in Brad Johnson under John Cooke. |

What has Marty Done? Show me? He'll have a great season and CHOKE!! At least Norv with the same team minus LaDanian lost in the 2nd quarter, Rivers lost in the 4th quarter, beat the Colts in Indy. Enough said!!! |

He took over somewhere around May of 99 which was the playoff season which was a loss to TB. |

Wrong! The guy that died before A.J. Smith and AJ Smith. |

Yes, and it had no chemistry. Might have been the 2000 team I am thinking about though. |

Re: Chargers and Norv
Until next year, when his lack of leadership causes the team to fall apart. I really see alot of parallels to the Oak situation when Gruden left and Callahan took over.
Wrong! The guy that died before A.J. Smith and AJ Smith.
Huh? I'm not sure what you mean here... |
Re: Chargers and Norv
I dealt with Norv Turner at least weekly behind the scenes for 2 and a half years. Decent guy, but I don't doubt for one minute that this team is winning despite him. Sure, some of it here might have been the players he had. He expected Gus Frerotte to be Troy Aikman, which he obviously wasn't. But Norv wouldn't budge. Did the same with Brad Johnson, who at least grasped things a lot better than Gus. Norv, similar to Spurrier, seemed to have no concept of what anyone beyond the QB was up to on the team. The whole locker room was filled with chaos and confusion. It was just ugly.
Now I understand he's not entirely to blame, but as the head coach he bears significant responsibility. I can't say I ever saw a time where he took charge and people said "that's our leader." People speculate, and I would tend to agree, that Marvin Lewis was the true leader of the clubhouse while he was here with Spurrier. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar is happening in San Diego. Norv's not a bad guy, but he shouldn't keep getting these great opportunities at the expense of others. |

They had another GM before AJ Smith took over, he had a great eye for talent and died a few years ago. I can't remember his name. |
Re: Chargers and Norv
Are you referring to Bobby Beathard? Anyway, what I was trying to say is that the Chargers still have Marty's personality. That's still his team out there. Norv is the head coach, but that team carries Marty's imprint.
