Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Wow, that'll be a kick in the teeth either way you look at it. To Jerry Jones if he takes it, or to Baltimore if he turns it down to stay in Dallas.
From one offensive "guru" to another. We'll have to see how well the Garrett offense translates from Romo, Jones/Barber, TO to Boller/McGahee/Mason. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Take it!

Before Atlanta takes him. They want to bring him in for a second interview. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Schefter is reporting the same thing except he seems to be more confident that Garret will take it. If he does take it, he'll have to bring in a defensive cordinator to run that side (Mike Zimmer? Has run a 3-4 before). And no doubt a few other position coaches from Dallas will follow (John Garett and probably Ray Sherman or Wade Wilson as Offensive Coordinator). Then if Sparono (sp?) goes to Miami and takes a few position coaches (Todd Bowles as D cordinator) then we get to see how good Wade is.

Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
I bet they would hire Cam Cameron to replace Garrett or Saunders if he's released by us.
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
We all know that Garrett is going to be a head coach somewhere...let's just hope it isn't in Dallas.
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Sportstalk 980 is reporting that he already accepted the offer.
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
I'm also hearing that Sparano going to Miami is pretty much a done deal as well.
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Why all the hype on Jason Garrett!!!!??????
He could be a good coach, but who knows? How long has he been coaching? I know he's only been an 0 coord for 1 year. Come on though, he's done a great job, but he's also got major offensive talent in Dallas. He's got a great o line, Romo, Witten, Owens, Barber, and a good supporting cast. For as much as i HATE Romo he's a great talent. Let's see how Garrett does w/ Steve McNair/Troy Smith. I'm not sold yet. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
My buddy just shot me a text saying that there are reports of Jerry Jones offering the Dallas job to Garrett. Maybe he feels Garrett is more valuable than Wade. I wouldn't argue that...
Anyone else hear this? |

Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
From a Cowboys board.
According to ESPN's John Clayton, the plan Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has presented the Ravens has former Dolphins assistants Cam Cameron and Dom Capers going with him to Baltimore as offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively. This is a mixed bag for Dallas. On one end, it means that a staff that figures to be tattered when the smoke clears will not be raided too extensively by the new Baltimore regime. But another side to it is that if Garrett does go to Baltimore, and Tony Sparano to Miami, Cameron likely would've been a prime candidate to become OC in Dallas. Cameron was the Chargers offensive coordinator, while Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips served as DC in San Diego from 2004-06. Cameron's connection to Garrett is through Norv Turner. Cameron was the Redskins quarterbacks coach from 1994-96 under Turner and, as such, runs a similar offensive system to Garrett. That would probably leave receivers coach Ray Sherman as the top candidate for the offensive coordinator position. Sherman was the Steelers offensive coordinator in 1998, taking over for Chan Gailey there, and the Vikings OC in 1999, where he took the reins from Brian Billick. Sherman resigned after being replaced by Sherman Lewis in Minnesota, and offered a position as receivers coach, after the '99 season. Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson could be another candidate. He brings eight years of experience as a position coach, four in Dallas (2000-02, 2007) and three in Chicago (2004-06.) |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
I'm really starting to sense a Brian Billick Version 2.0 on the horizon, but who knows I could be wrong. Plus Brian Billick 2.0 wouldn't be so bad considering they won a Super Bowl under Brian Billick 1.0. However I'm disapointed because Marty was up for this job, and personally I felt like Marty would have been a perfect fit.
They also could have brought in Cam Cameron to be the O-Coordinator and kept Rex/Buddy/or whichever Ryan is on the Ravens as the Coordintor (which is probably going to happen anyway). However the Ravens have always seemed to be an organization that builds for the future and considering the fact that the offense is stagnant and Marty is 64 years old makes sense as far at the Ravens policy is concerned. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
I really hope this happens. That offense was pretty damn good this year, so whatever weakens dallas, I'm all for. Now if Garrett turns out to be a bust for the Ravens, then EVERYBODY wins.

Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Yeah I hate the Ravens as if they were an NFC east team
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Personally, I would hate to see Saunders go to Dallas if we let him go. I still believe that, with a good QB, Saunders' offense can do wonders. I'd hate to see what Saunders would be able to do with Romo, Witten, T.O., Barber, et al.
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
hope he takes it...lets get him out of dallas...add to the disarray.

100% agree...it wasn't that long ago that the Chiefs were running all over everybody and trent green was a star. Saunders' system works, and we'll see the fruits of past few years come to blossom next year. I'm very excited to see what we can accomplish with a youth infused offensive line (depth), a big receiver, and a motivated campbell (collins on his heels). *assuming we draft/sign o-line help and a receiver. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Hire the kid, Garrett out, hopefully. Then Sparano out, looks like he will be the next HC in Miami. The girls will be losing a lot of there coaching talent.

Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
PFT.com:
POSTED 5:56 p.m. EST, January 15, 2008 GARRETT HAS LEFT THE BUILDING Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has left Baltimore without becoming the team's new head coach. Per Schefter, the Ravens didn't want to let Garrett get away. He'll now head to Atlanta, where the Falcons will try to do to the Ravens on Garrett what the Dolphins did to the Falcons on Bill Parcells. Meanwhile, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly is ready to pay through the nose (or other orifice) to keep Garrett. This one is suddenly getting very interesting. At least Cowboys fans now have a reason to eat some of that leftover popcorn. |

I don't think Romo is the type of quarterback to execute Saunders' system though, do you? He's too mobile and experimental in the pocket. Maybe he could run it succesfully but it would require him changing his game and mitigating a lot of the adventages his athleticism grant him. |

At which point Wade will be exposed for the mediocre head coach he is. Still never won a playoff game... |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
I think Jerry Jones is in a tough, tough spot. It would be really messed up to fire Wade after he went 13-3 in very first season with the team. Sure they didn't win a playoff game, but you can't fire a guy for winning 13 games in his first year with the team. The consensus is that Garrett is not only ready to be a head coach, but a darn good one at that. Jerry loves him, and in my opinion he's probably regretting not promoting him last year. Wade's a defensive guy, and now Dallas is about to lose their two best offensive coaches. I know Jerry will pay out the ying yang for Garrett to stay, but if it's not as the head man, I don't know if that will cut it.
I love this. In one week Dallas went from the #1 seed/NFC superbowl favorite to a total mess. Yard sale on their coaches, TO crying, a huge playoff choke... Makes me smile. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
You gotta wonder if Garrett never had any intent of leaving to become a head coach, and is just forcing Jones' hand
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
I am sorry, but Jason Garrett is just the flavor of the month. When you have keys to an offensive Jauggernaut like the cowpukes, you could be braindead and drive it. Jason Garrett, hasn't really shown me anything. Let's see how well he can coach up Kyle Boller and Troy Smith. If he does that, then I will be impressed.
|
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Garrett must be playing his cards for a big deal, I can't imagine anyone wanting to go to that mess in Atlanta, coupled with poor fan support, over a franchise like Baltimore.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit. It's a win-win for Garrett. Either way he's getting a phat contract. |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
please, let him take two ex coaches to the mess of a team that is baltimore. everyone (in DC) wins.
hopefully we end up with GW - HC, AS - OC (now running the real offense, and not the joe gibbs pre-collins version), JG (jerry gray) - DC, new secondary coach (though walker would be a better DC, he's still at UCLA :/ ) |
Re: Jason Garret Offered Ravens Job
Looks like Garret is staying in dallas.

Mods, should this be it's own thread? |
