RI: Something to chew on (Mariucci speculation) (Update: Interview Wednesday)

Steve Mariucci anyone?

[QUOTE]The Redskins say it will be at a least a week until he tells us who the new head coach is and I know that's way too long for you all to spend dissecting the coaching career Jim Fassel. How about we take a moment to examine someone whose names has not been publicly linked to the job yet.

Ready?

You sure?

Steve Mariucci.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

the JLC Blog entry makes sense, tracking the coaching tree back and with the history with Vinny and the coordinators . . . . .or Im just so sick of this I want closure

Whoa.

Now that adds some excitement to the discussion.

Makes some sense of what has happened in the last 72 hrs.

you guys are right, that actually makes a great deal of sense. I'm not getting my hopes up though cause I don't want to be disappointed.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

I would actually consider forgiving Snyder if they made a move on Steve Mariucci, however, it would've made sense to let a coach like him make his own choices at the coordinator positions.

Danny wants Mooch to announce it Live on the Post Superbowl show.

How is that for big splash.

Mariachi all the way!! He's a great coach, would he come work for DS? As far as I know his relationship with VC is alright.

Gotta give props to JLC for putting all the pieces together. It certainly makes a whole lot of sense.

Fascinating theory. JLC's right, it makes all the sense in the world. We shall see.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

regardless of who the HC is I think we are in for a rebuilding year or two, which sucks after having made the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years. At this point I would much rather have an offensive HC then defensive. I am glad Blache is the DC. With him and London Fletcher I dont see the defensive taking a step back.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

13 positive votes in a row for Mooch.

Overall record, 75-71.

60-43 with 49ers.
15-28 with Lions.

No one wins with the Lions.

More positive feed back than Fassel. Younger than Fassel.

No HC experience in a SB, however. The record compares to Fassel, and the connections to the B&G are blury, but are indeed visible.

much better than fassel. good work on JLC's part. no idea if it's true or not though.

Good read.

If it is Mooch though, props have to go to several people on this board who have brought him up in recent weeks.

I think Paintrain was the first

Re: RI: Something to chew on

I've seen him coach at Cal-Berkeley then the 49ers, he's a great coach that got a raw deal after the 49ers changed ownership from Eddie D. to his sister and hubby (Dr.York). The guy is a great coach, he would get re-united with Brandon Lloyd, Andre Carter, Jimmy Farris and possibly Pearson Prileau. I'll let you all know if I hear some rumors around here in SF.

I have wondered if a new coach could get B Lloyd to be the WR we hoped he be, but then again if Joe G couldn't get production out of him maybe nobody can

Yep, he'll be more than happy to give him the boot. I wonder how AC feels about BL? By the way I would take mooch over Cowher any day.

man skins fans are fickle, maybe hes acutally doing somethign that will make people happy and he cant control all the rumors :) lol this is starting to get funny. well i have to laugh because its so much to digest.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

Personality wise he would be a great fit here. Down to earth, a real players' kind of coach. His background in the WC offense is also very intriguing. I'm really not seeing anything to hate here.

Do you think it will be Mooch now and not Fassel?........And, which one would you prefer? I'll go on record and say I'd prefer Mooch over Fassel, but will support whoever the choice may be.

I'm all for Mooch! I don't know about the "great coach" part, but he's a good coach who has tasted some success in the NFL. At this point, I just want the process to be over so we can move forward.

He was Brett Favre's QB coach in GB, was a pretty good coach for one year at Cal till Carmen Policy and Eddie D. hired him, had a pretty good career with the Niners. The only thing that might be in the back of his mind is that he had to follow Bill walsh and Joe Seifert here in SF and now he has to follow Joe Gibbs.

I mentioned Mariucci in a previous thread, but I still say Fassel is the chosen one (I hope I'm wrong) I would take Mariucci over fassel and any other candidate without blinking. The thing that I'm puzzled about is why would Mooch take over a set coaching staff? I know there are some coaches that he has worked with, but there are also some that he's not familiar with. I guess like JLC said, MONEY TALKS!! We'll see.

Who's to say he hasn't already signed off on the assistant coaches?

At this point, I would be happy with anyone but fassel.

Marriucci inherited a good team with SF and had them playing pretty well but he never did take them to the SB.

I'm not convinced he is the answer but he does give the redskins credibility.

They were getting long in the tooth after they won the SB in 95. Young was suffering from concussions, Jeff garcia took over but was no Steve Young, the whole change of ownership dilemma, salary cap issues, all this affected this team. His teams were always competitive and played hard.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

Well since we've already hired a WCO offensive coordinator, hiring a head coach with a direct link to the Bill Walsh tree would be a good thing at this point.

Alright, I just sent an e-mail to Gary Radnich (SF version of George Michael) who's pretty good friends with Mooch and anchors sports on KNBR 680 and is the sportscaster for KRON channel 4. I asked if he had heard any rumors on Mooch coaching the Skins. If I hear anything I'll pass it on.

Re: RI: Something to chew on

This makes more sense. I kept asking which coach we would hire and how they would fit even though they may have signed off on the coordinators I could see friction with Fassel if he was not a WC oriented HC or if we chose Spagnoulo and his defensive style was different then Blache's. I do like Meeks but am worried about his defensive style also. If it would mesh well with Blache's. but....Mariucci would be a great fit. icing on the cake. I have always liked that he was personable. Someone needs to send this to DS. I hope the 12:00 Redskins Radio boys are getting this for their show. Kinda nice if DS (if not already involved in this deal) could hear how the fans would respond to Mariucci. Unlike OJ this fits like a glove.

Perhaps we could make it to the play offs again next year. Not that I'm a Lloyd fan but didn't he do alot better in the WC offense? Ok, Ok, get rid of him we have Mix.
