3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1) Redskins 14 Dallas 13, Bomb to Moss as time expires.
2) Redskins 22, Dallas 19, Blocked kick, taylor return, game winning fg. 3) Portis' 64 yard td, first carry as a skin. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. Redskins 14, Dallas 13. That's still a night I'm going to remember forever.
2. Redskins 35, Dallas 7. I loved that game, it was complete domination from beginning to end, and it helped shut a whole hell of a lot of Dallas fans up that said the first game was a fluke. 3. Taylor's fumble recovery in 05 against the Eagles to seal the win and vault us to the playoffs. Other memorable moments, Taylor's blocked field goal return to give the Redskins the win against Dallas at home in 06', Portis' first run as a Redskin, the 5 game win streak at the end of 05', the 4 game win streak at the end of 07'. |

Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
The initial press conference anouncing the return of Joe Gibbs, and remembering his repeated proclimation: "The past don't buy you anything up here" I have to prove myself all over again. He proceded to bring cohesion to a football team, and to an ogganization that had lost it's way.
The distraught expression that engulfed his persona following the Game with the Buffalo Bills when he admitted he was not sure of a rule that prohibited him from calling back-to-back timeouts for fear of being penalized. Truly a low popint in his illusturous career. How he kept his team focused and cohesive during one of the most difficult times in Redskin history, dealing with the death of Sean Taylor. I doubt there's a coach in the NFL who could have handled that situation with the grace and class that Gibbs did. God bless you Joe, and may everything you touch turn to gold. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. Beating the Giants at home 12/24/05. Being at the stadium was electric..A td pass from portis to Cooley and Bombs from Brunell and even Ramsey to Moss!! We stomped them with momentum carried over from the week before from the Dallas game.. so that week sun-sun should be moment 1.
2. Back to 05 again with the Taylor fumble return for a td against Philly to send us to the playoffs. Ending a 6 yr playoff drought and having Gibbs be the leader just felt right. 3. Draft 06'. Heraing Gibbs call out Sean Salsibury on ESPN for saying if the skins made the playoffs he would walk from Bristol to DC. Gibbs wasnt having it..he got on and called out Salsibury and put him in his place! Nice to see Gibbs acting like fan like us for a couple minutes!! |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
I loved every minute he was our coach,
I remember how i got chills and couldn't sleep when I heard he was coming back to DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How he handled Ramsey and Brunell How he handled Portis and Betts How he handled the loss of ST21. How he handled losing all of those close games, how many were there????? Man, I hope Dan knows what he is doing....but i don't really think he does. |

And I'll add the way he handled Taylor's death. His guidance helped rally the team and I'm not sure anyone else could have done a better job. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
My top memory was the blocked kick, return by Taylor, game winning FG against Dallas. It's my favorite because I was there in the stands for it. It's the only game I've actually been to in the last five years, and I picked a hell of a one to see.
If it weren't for being there, my top memory would be the 14-13 comeback against Dallas. My other memory would be making the playoffs this year by beating the hell out of Dallas (even if they did rest starters). It meant so much after what happened with ST. And regardless of Gibbs' record while he was here, it reminded me of what a great coach he still is. It was the high note we all needed to see him leave on. |

To me....All the wins against Dallas top the list...especially the ones that cause the most pain for them |

Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. Redskins 35-7 v. Dallas in 2005 (gets top billing because I actually was in attendance)
2. Redskins 27-6 v. Dallas in 2007 (closes improbable playoff run and, again, happened to be in attendance) 3. Redskins 14-13 v. Dallas in 2005 (Having watched the whole game again on DVD it really was really really crappy for about 55 minutes; actually stayed up and watched the thing thinking that the suffering would make the joy that much better later - just didn't know it would come that night. Woke up my neighbors after Santana Moss' 2nd TD - lived in an apartment then and they started banging on the wall). Honorable Mention - - Blocked kick v. Dallas in 2006, Taylor's TD v. Philly in 2005, and listening to pretty much the whole 2005 season via Sirius Radio since I was in SC and did not yet have a hardworking wife willing to pay for Sunday Ticket. Much different experience listening on radio exclusively and Sonny, Sam, and Larry sure made it seem like the Redskins should have won every game that year :) |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
My all time favorite was that Dallas game with the block.
I remember Witten burned AA down the seam and was taunting him so badly it looked like he had blown another game and it was ugly. What took place next was the best damn moment of my fan life besides the Playoff wins and superbowl of course. Taylor was so amazing man I only wish he took it all the way but the ending is just fine by me. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
coming back to beat up on the cowboys ..
14-13,22-19,35-7 ,27-6 all wins against dallas. and restoring some stability and giving us hope again that we haven,t felt in a longtime since he was last here during the skins heyday...and helping the skins get that family feeling back..thats the joe gibbs we know very well..... |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. beating dallas
2. beating dallas 3. beating dallas no particular game just the fact that he did when no other coach after Gibbs I could. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
When he was hired.
When he retired. |

The greatest thing about this thread & Gibbs II is that we have 4 wins over dallas to choose from & all of them were big for us. even the 06 win. We didn't go to the playoffs that year so I consider that win our SB of 06. Another great footnote to Gibbs II. Pre Gibbs II we'd lost 13 of 14 v. Dallas. During Gibbs II the rivalry returned, w/a 4-4 split. Though he was only .500 vs. Dallas, 3 of our 4 wins were in playoff years. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. When Joe returned and shocked all REDSKIN FANS and DC and right in front of him where those THREE beautiful SB trophies he brought to this organization in his first tenure, DC lit up like a Christmas tree when he shocked the football world!
2. The come from behind win over Dallas in Dallas, way to go Mark to Santana = 14-13 SKINS! 3. The last game Joe ever coached at FedEx against who else The Cowgirls, brought the entire family to the game had no idea at the time that would be the last time we would see him on the sidelines, but darn sure knew what was at stake for that 12.30.07, 4:15 game! Win and we're in! And what a WIN it was. 27-6 What a VICTORY! JOE THE MAN: How Joe the man handled the entire ST tragedy from top to bottom, and managed to keep this organization together. ONLY JOE could do a job that well. Also, one thing that really stands out is after we lost his final game in Seattle, on the post game show he spoke to Pedro Taylor, and spoke of how Sean had grown as a man and how many lives this horrible tragedy had touched in a positive way, that it brought so many of Sean's friends and teammates closer to the LORD it just really stands out to me as to the true man and leader of men Joe Gibbs is and will always be. |

Sean Taylor 3. 10/1/06 vs. Jacksonville. While it was a rare highlight during what turned out to be a disappointing season, I was lucky enough to have been in attendance. As Santana ran for the endzone....I can't remember ever being so happy. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. 14-13 over the Cowboys
2. 37-7 over the Cowboys 3. 27-6 over the Cowboys - Gibbs good-bye gift to us. |

Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. Proving all the doubters wrong with a 5 game winning streak to get into the playoffs in 2005, then beating the lucky Bucs in the playoffs.
2. Proving all the doubters wrong with a 4 game winning streak to get into the playoffs this past season. 3. Retiring on his own terms while retaining all of the luster that has made him such a great coach and such a beloved figure in the game. Honorable Mention: 1. His stunning comeback to the team in January of '04. Couldn't believe it when I heard it, but I couldn't have been more excited! 2. Beating the worthless Cowboys on four memorable occasions. 3. Showing us once again just what a class-act he is. I hope he continues his great success in NASCAR! He will definitely be missed! |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
1. Brunell's bomb to Moss for the MNF win.
2. Crushing Dallas 27-6 for the last playoff berth in 07 3. Stepping down as head coach. |
Re: 3 Best Memories in Gibbs II
