I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked (sponsored by the player haters ball)
It kinda pissed me off that Manning got the MVP, I thought that he was the luckiest sob EVER for not losing that game. It seemed to me that on every throw he made in the 4th quarter, (except for one or two) he seemed to lean back, close his eyes throw the ball and pray that his reciever would catch it, and the overthow of Burress almost lost the game. I will give him props for fighting though, he got out of a few sacks where he should have been eating dirt. Even though I thought he should have thrown the ball away instead of scramble, I'm not going to complain about that point too much.

Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
By no means am I a Giants fan or an Eli fan for that matter but, he didn't do that bad, He threw one pick which was completly Steve Smith's fault and at the end of the game he was breaking would be sacks and threw a perfect TD pass to Plax to win the game. If he didn't deserve it who did.

David Tyree. He caught the first TD and made the unbelievable crucial catch on the winning drive. |

yeah,it was a tossup between him and eli,to hang on to that ball while being bent over backwards was amazing |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Are you Nuts there is no way he sucked - He got the job done under huge presure and that last drive will go down in SB history. I agree about the MVP award, that should have been shared by the Giants D Line but hey he's the QB

In case you didn't notice, he was pressured on just about every play. Not even Tom Brady did well when there was someone in his face. Eli performed very well, and even though he had some poor plays, he held it together long enough to have an 83 yard drive. Call it luck if you want, but an 83 yard drive is not luck. One or two plays were luck, the rest was skill. Eli came into his own this year. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
I thought Manning did a decent job, particularly when you consider that he was under constant pressure. His ability to avoid the sack on 3rd down and throw for the 1st down on the game-winning drive alone was damn impressive.
|
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Eli played a good to great game. Factor in all of those drops plus his escape from that sack to make the long pass to Tyree- great game, deserved the MVP, case closed.

Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
yeah...sucked all the way to a Super Bowl win.
I can only hope JC sucks so bad next year... |

Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
I don't in anyway think he sucked, however he did NOT deserve the MVP.
|
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Eli sucked? A bit hyperbolic, don't you think?
He wasn't great, but he made plays when needed and he was far from horrible |

Yes he did. He managed that drive, and that should have some sort of label like Elway has "the drive". Maybe the drive part 2. I mean who you going to give it to? Tyree? He only had 3 catches for 43 yards and 1 td. While he did come up with that amazing, best play ever, catch, 2 plays don't deserve an MVP. I heard someone suggest the DLine...well that's fine and dandy, but it's most valuable PLAYER, not players. Did Eli have a clear cut MVP game? No. But he was the most valuable player on that field today. He stayed away from mistakes (the int was not his fault)and had 2 critical TD's. He deserved it. |

Well that stuff that you call lucky is what got Favre a bunch of MVPs and a ring. And everyone calls him one of the greats. As for the overthrow on PB is what Burress' "fault" for cutting short. In the end Eli threw the ball where he though PB would be and PB wasn't there. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Statistically he had a good night, even with the 1 INT that was not entirely his fault.
|
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
I am not a fan of Eli but. got to give him props where props are due. the last drive was incredible. he deserves the MVP and all the credit. congrats giants fans, was worth seeing bellidick look so salty jogging of the field.

Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
MVP shoulda been Tyree. That amazing helmet/hand catch was amazing!
(If I don't sound too totally coherent I've been drinking a bit tonight so uh yeah. :)) |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
absolutely blows my mind how people can talk bad about his play after that showing. he led the giants to arguably the biggest upset in history. how can anyone hate on him after that last drive?

AS IF ANY OF US GIVE A FLYING FUCK WHO WON THE MVP. WE ARE THE FUCKING CHAMPS AND THE SIGNATURE STAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
personally, eli breaking tackles and throwing that pass at the end of the game to win it does it for me. no question, deserved. that is my opinion

After winning a Super Bowl against the Pats, I wouldn't mind being kicked out of the NFL. :D Your boys did great, Coggs! :woot: |

Relax dude, geez, clearly the guy is nuts. Eli played a hell of a game. The Tyree catch was a great play, but did you not notice Eli escaping from 3 guys right before he threw the ball? Give me a break, Eli won the game, classic performance. If you want to kill him when he plays bad (which I have) then give him some credit when he plays well (which he did). Eli deserved the MVP, he was the clear choice, and if you missed that I think you might have been paying more attention to the wings and beer instead of the game. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Honestly thought it was going to go to someone on the D-line. Not sure off the top of my head, but they had 5 sacks I think and Brady was on his ass A LOT.
|
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
not to mention they would not have been in the SB if it were not for his long string of strong play through the playoffs. give credit where it is due. can't wait for next season.

Yeah, but when a QB leads a game winning drive with under 2 minutes left, its kind of hard to pick anyone else. The d-line did get to Brady a ton though. I bet he took more shots tonight than he did all year. Guess he's human when he doesn't get protection ... great gameplan, great execution. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
And let's be honest, The Giants talent-wise are pretty thin offensively. Besides Burress they have:
2 mediocre to decent RBs with little to no value in the passing game no discernibly good TEs with value besides blocking 1 average WR who caught the droppsies this year and scares exactly no one in the league a bunch of no name fodder type WRs a decent offensive line. Not the makings of a great offense and any success had with this group can be attributed to Eli's play mostly. |

I will disagree with you on this point, I thought Eli played a fine game and he was much more deserving of MVP than Peyton was in last year's Super Bowl. Eli has progressed a lot this postseason, and it showed. You could've counted me in on the believers that Eli didn't have it in him to take the Giants 83 yards down the field to score the winning touchdown against an undefeated team, but he did it, and that drive will be remembered as one of the crowning points of his career, unless of course, this becomes the first of many high points. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
eli didn't suck, though he wasn't amazing. tuck should have gotten that mvp though (6 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 FF, lots of pressures).
|
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
I just can't believe I live in a world where Eli is a Superbowl Champion
|
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
If not Eli, who else would you have given it to? He didn't have the greatest performance but I think that play when he broke out of the sack and heaved it downfield is going to be one of the most memorable in SB history and possibly also his career.
I'm just happy to have won $300 bucks last nite (3rd Q and final game, blocks) and most importantly having Monk and Green in together! |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
This is the stupidest thread ever created...I bleed burgundy and gold...... congrats G-Men...Pierce said it best "We play in the hard hitting NFC East, we were ready for this"
Dumbas%^& thread...... Good job Eli! |

I agree. 2 4th quarter TD passes to beat the Pats...that alone is worthy, but yes, he played great all night, from that first 10-minute drive to the last play. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Eli definitely didn't suck. This thread sounds like sour grapes.
He wasn't great and yeah that prayer to Tyree was lucky, but hey shit happens. But overall he got it done. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Bottom line Eli did enough to manage the game and not throw it away and has a nice ring to show for it, HOW WOULD anyone call that he sucks? The Defense played GREAT! What a game, I'm glad the underdog NFC giants got it done!

My Brother in-law is a G's fan and he thought Manning was the MVP but myself I thought it should have been Justin Tuck. The guy was all over Brady the entire game. The D-line set the tone and won this game for the Giants. Makes me kind of mad cuz the Skin's could have drafted Tuck a couple of years ago. The guy is a beast. |
Re: I hate to be the hater, but Eli sucked
Yeah he was down 4 and drove for a winning td pass to beat the 18-0 pats but he wasn't that good.
