How will Patriots handle loss?
This loss was huge for the Patriots. How will they handle having an almost perfect season and losing it in the SB? Will there be any psychological effects or confidence and arrogance loss? Stay tuned.

Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
Brady's gonna go home and bang Gisele Bundchen so... it probably won't be that bad... In all honesty, they looked old at linebacker in this game. Bruschi getting trucked by Jacobs pretty much said it all. Experience is great but if every linebacker is too old to physically dominate, it shows. I'd say they make some significant personnel changes on d.

Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
How will they handle it? Well, they should come to the conclusion that "cheaters never win", however, they will likely point the finger at refs or something. They are arrogant, and they showed it with that 4th and 13 play when they should have gone for the 48 yard field goal attempt. That play could have cost them the game.

Maybe she'll dump him and go after Eli. :) |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
They have some potential issues on defense. I know it has been fashionable to applaud the wit and wisdom of their LB corps but eventually the fact that they are all old is going to really show. I think it has a little this year in fact and it will only get worse. Their secondary is only decent beyond Samuel. Their D line is damn good but in a 3-4 that isn't quite as important.
On offense they are one Randy Moss away from being average at wideout and he's a free agent to be following a record breaking year. Their line looked pretty porr tonight but in general they are good. I suspect that they'll lose some games next year because people will figure out to simply take away Brady's options in Welker and Faulk by jamming them hard at the line. They'll drop a safety to ladder cover Moss and no one else is uncoverable by a LB. They'll win a lot of games next year but maybe only 12 if Moss doesn't resign and maybe 14 if he does. They'll be good either way. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
Moss kind of disappeared in the post season. I definitely wouldn't break the bank for him at this point...

Well, that is true, however being doubled on every play, and not having balls thrown your way because others are open is not his fault. Someone should break the bank for him, he showed he's the best WR in the game again. He helped a team go 18-1. That's impressive. |

He was accounted for heavily in everyone's game plan. Any defense in the league can take away a weapon if they want. The question is what they risk to do so and how the offense exploits the resulting weaknesses. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
I bet Belichek ripped the entire team a new one.

They will cry like little pups who are accustomed to getting the most glorious breast milk in the world and wake up one day and poof there is no more sweet big titty in their face to suck on.

I love that did not go for a field goal when they should have, I wonder if anyone asked him why and he responded. "What are we supposed to do? Go for a field goal?" just like he said when he went for it against the Skins. So happy these arrogant pricks lost by three when it would have been a tie. |

Never thought of it that way ... The football gods have spoken! Can't wait for Gregg Easterbrook's column this week. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
The Pats have quite a few aging vets on the defensive side. There could be some significant changes on that side of the ball.
That said I'm sure they will be a SB contender again next year and will probably win at least 12-13 games. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
I predict Ted Kennedy will send every member of the Patriots a case of scotch.

Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
the patriots are a laughingstock now. not even close to a dynasty.
|
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
The term laughingstock gets thrown around way too much here.

Of course not, they haven't won for three years. I never really considered them a dynasty. They won 3 SBs each by just a single FG, hardly dominant. Who'd they beat? The Eagles, Panthers and Rams...wow...really impressive. A team who is a dynasty doesn't rely on last-second FGs to win. Pile on top of all of this the fact they've been found to have cheated, even on at least one SB... Not a dynasty. Not even close. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
Hopefully this is the beginning of their death spiral. I'm waiting for the entire organization to unravel in a horrific fashion.

Not even close.[/quote] First, they were as heavy an underdog against the Rams as the Giants were against the Patriots this year. That was an incredible win, and you can't take that away from them. Second, the Eagles were good in 2004, remember? That wasn't a fluke SB team. Third, I'll give you the Panthers - they sucked. But why should that count against the Pats? The AFC was nasty that year, and the Pats defense was silly. Is it their fault that the NFC sucked? Fourth, the Pats' back-to-back years saw them go 14-2 each year. That's pretty dominant, even with their weak division. Lastly, they haven't been found to have cheated on at least one SB. There are allegations, that's it. Allegations <> facts. I don't like the Pats, but you have to give them credit for accomplishing something that wasn't supposed to be possible these days. I don't know if it's a dynasty or not, but "not even close"? That's just not supportable. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
I dont really care how they handle it. I was glad to see them lose the way they did. This was a longtime coming. The Pats linebackers showed their age last night. Congrats Giants....I took the points and went with the Giants and won big. So this further supports my theory that the NFC East is back!!!!!

Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
This loss is just the best thing that could have happened to that pompous team.
The giants(10-6) are getting the worst pick in the draft, the patroits are getting(would have got) the 31st pick the draft with the regular season record of 16-0....hahhhahhhhaa! That feels so good knowing they muffed the most important game of the season. |

And they lost the 31st pick due to Spygate. But other than that you are right... |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
Listen, I hate Belichick and the Pats as much as the next guy and i am glad that they lost (esp b/c of the money that i won) but am i crazy or are we talking about the PATRIOTS? They were 3 points away from going 19-0! Even if they lose some of their vets on Defense, they are still gonna be a playoff team that contends for the SB for the next few years. To say that they are going to collapse b/c of this one loss is preposterous. The patriots more so than any other team in the league love having a chip on their shoulders. Also I think it would be a glaring omission to not point out their draft record and youth development. They know how to develop talent and although they are old at some positions, their younger guys have yet to reach their max potential (esp. Maroney).

They still only gave up 17 points. Harrison is the one that looked old as he got beat a few times. But this WAS NOT on the defense. This was 100% on the offense and the O-line. |

I don't think so. The Pats D couldn't get off the field. The offense can't do anything from the bench. It's not all about points allowed. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
The Pats played bend but don't break all year on D. Last night it broke at the worst time.

Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
Remember the colts 13-3 season in 05, but they lost in the playoffs. They came back to win it all in 06 after an 11-5 season. Pitt. was 14-2 in 04, yet won the super bowl in 05 after an 11-5 wild card run. San Diego recently bounced back & won 2 playoff games after losing in the first round last year w/a 14-2 record.
Anyone notice a pattern here the last few years? It seems that teams w/the top records haven't fared that well in the playoffs, maybe the pressure & expectations are too high? I see NE bouncing back & having another solid year, though there's no way we'll be talking about a perfect season. I could see them back in the super bowl. |

Did anyone else see Gisele drinking wine in the box seats? I know, it's luxury, but MAN that was lame.

They have a HUGE decision to make with one of their best young players - Asante Samuel is a free agent, and he might be looking to make Nate Clements money. |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
Hahahaha!!! All that arrogance an cheating finally caught up with those bastards! Ahh so sweet to see them defeated, thats what they get. Oops New England you blew it!! Chokers! Hahaha!!! With that said they probably will win 12 to 14 games next year

At first the loss will sting and there will be a bit of denial, then they will get angry, then they will be a little depressed, and finally they will heal. I doubt if they ever forget the loss though (as if the media will ever let them.) |
Re: How will Patriots handle loss?
I thought to myself when Samuel dropped that interception that went right off his hand, justice has just been served, I knew karma had taken over at that point and the giants were gonna win, generally if you don't capitalize on gifts like that your lose.

I see your point. But I just don't think NE's defense needs to be overhauled. They were the #4 defense in the NFL. They might want to draft some inside backers. They were also missing Colvin so they get him back next year. If they can keep Moss and Samuel, and that's a big if, they'll be right back in the hunt next year. |
