Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
I think this deserves it's own thread. this is new news. I would have never gone back to the Chad Johnson thread otherwise, I would just figure it was people bitching about whether he should come or not.
thank you tdSkins |
Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
I think it's ok to keep them separate. This one is about the Bengals' most recent stance on the matter. The other can focus more on whether we fans want him here, and at what price.

Plus there's a big-ass thread on Chad Johnson already.. Prepare to be mod-smacked..
The "Ocho Cinco in B&G" thread is getting too long so I vote to let this thread stay. It's at the point where peoples opinions are getting looked over to much, where in a 2 or 3 page thread you can read where the converstation is going and stay on topic. I think duplicate threads are a problem when 1. There was another thread started about the topic recently 2. The duplicate thread covers the exact same story. This is a new development in an existing story, if you bring it up in the ocho-cinco thread it has a good chance of someone taking the thread off topic. Sort of like what I'm doing right now. Anyway back on topic, I think Lewis doesn't really know what he's talking about. In the end Chad Johnson will be a Redskin. |

Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
Nothing really new, they've been saying this all long and honestly what else should they be saying?

Who wants a guy that acts like Chad? He has Carson Palmer and Bengals have kissed his ass. So he's unhappy and tries to force their hands? Screw him! Bring in the MOOSE!! |

They've been saying this all along but this is coupled w/Lewis' "defense" of CJ. Sounds to me like Lewis is trying to mend fences in the offseason. He may be successful in doing so but if he's not & ocho continues to act a fool, then they'll be interested in trading him. I don't see it happening before the draft, but maybe in camp or later. |

Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
Yeah after this, I don't think Danny and the evil empire will get him. You never know with a weasil like Rosenhaus though.

If "in the end" you mean 2010, then you might be right. But I seriously doubt it happens this year. |
Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
Let me break down what Marvin Lewis is actually saying:
"The Washington Redskins haven't offered us enough compensation for Chad Johnson so we're playing hardball. Please give us more picks." |
Why do you want him so baldly, he is not a good fit in the locker room.
3 questions: 1) What is baldly? 2) Have you been in our locker room? 3) If no how would you know if he is or isnt a good fit? |
Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
They better not trade Johnson because we can't afford to give away any draft picks, especially a first and a third.

Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
Good!!! The Redskins should beware of players who are perennially dissatisfied with their current teams. Surely, we don't need a clubhouse distraction no matter how talented the player---Chad, please stay away.

You make an excellent point, while I admire CJ's talent and the numbers he's posted the last five years, there's more to him than meets the eye. Make no mistake, I'd love to have him because of the contribution he could make to the offense, but at the same time I have reservations about his ego, a new coach, and a young QB. If the team struggles initally with the process of learning a new terminology, would he be able to curtail his ego if he's not getting a lot of balls thrown his way? I love the guy's talent, but I'm apprehensive about how well he'd fit in. |
Let me break down what Marvin Lewis is actually saying:
"The Washington Redskins haven't offered us enough compensation for Chad Johnson so we're playing hardball. Please give us more picks."
Pretty much! We all know money talks and if the Redskins want Chad Johnson badly enough they'll spend what is needed to get him. While I'd love to have someone of his ability and star power on our team, I'm not ready to sign over the farm for him so to speak. |
Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
You should see my Bernard Berrian post, all the ppl there want CJ, even though we all know it's going to mean our 1st and 3rd pick. Once again, I hope we dodge this bullet like we did last year with Lance Briggs.
|
Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
Do mention Bernard Berrian in the same sentence as Chad Johnson is absolutely terrible. Javon Walker I can see since he may be cut. Roy Williams could also be a great pickup for cheaper than CJ.

Agreed with Javon Walker, but if they cut him. That's my concern with CJ, we are going to give away a lot. I mentioned Berrian b/c he's an UFA, and the Redskins wouldn't need to give their picks away. I heard Riggo today talking about Andre Davis from Houston as well, once again anoter UFA. |
Re: Lewis: Johnson Going Nowhere
Said this in another thread, but based on last years production and the expected production from these two guys in 2008, Chad Johnson would add roughly 1/3 of a win to our expected total if he replaced Santana Moss in the lineup.
1/3 of a victory. Unless you think Ocho Cinco is going to get a lot better than last year, or that Santana is going to get far worse, that's a pretty negligible difference, I'd say. A first and a third round pick and $20 million guaranteed are not as negligible. No deal. |
