Re: Zorn wants Collins back
i would think it would be between the skins and the rams, as a backup. i don't see any team offering him the starting job.

Re: Zorn wants Collins back
id love to have collins back as a backup, hope we can hang onto him. hed be a lot better than trent dilfer as backup...

maybe, maybe not. dilfer knows zorn's system, collins does not. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
trent dilfer is garbage though. didn't he get some PT this year for the 9'errs who play WCO and he was god awful?

i guess u didnt see how terrible dilfer was last year when he came in to start for the 49ers... |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
I'D BE PISSED IF WE SIgned dilfer.... brunell is even ALOT better than he is

Brunell's contract isn't going to be better than Dilfer's. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
maybe, maybe not. dilfer knows zorn's system, collins does not.
Every time Dilfers' name is mentioned I'm reminded of just how close we were to drafting him the year Mr. Shuler came to Washington. We could very well bring Collins back, and also make a play for Dilfer to help both QB's get famaliar with the different system. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
Brunell's contract isn't going to be better than Dilfer's.
Neither them is going to be under contract with the Redskins when free agency opens, so this point is moot.

Re: Zorn wants Collins back
I'd like to see Brunell backing up Jason Campbell next year. I know there are alot of Brunell-haters on this board, but everyone must keep in mind the guy just wasn't healthy the late 05 season and entire 06 season and plus he's a class act. Collins, on the other hand, played great this past year under an offense he's learned inside out. I hate to be a doubter or anything, but I honestly believe that's why he performed so well this year. So in my own opinion, I think it would be best for Collins to depart to St. Louis instead of bothering to learn a new offense in which he may play mediocre at best under.
|
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
Do you guys really think Collins can be effective in a new offense cuz i sure dont. he has been in saunders offense for like 6 years or something like that.
|
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
collins would be fine, hes a smart dude and a good decision maker when it comes to throwing the ball... i'd keep'em
|
Do you guys really think Collins can be effective in a new offense cuz i sure dont. he has been in saunders offense for like 6 years or something like that.
Collins is a veteran QB with a lot of time in the league. There's not much he hasn't seen already. I wouldn't anticipate the offense being something too difficult for him to pick up. I hope nothing happens to Jason this year, but Collins demonstrated he can be serviceable for a short period, his accuracy in the short passing game could prove to be an asset. I just don't think he's a starting caliber QB. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
Dilfer would be nothing more than a #3/emergency type of QB for us. He would be a solid addition for his knowledge of the offense.

Exactly, that's what I was thinking in terms of him being, a 3rd QB at best. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
I absolutely love Brunell, and have since he was at Jacksonville but one must wonder- how can we benefit from him now? IMO it would be better to let him go out and be a backup somewhere he is needed and bring in Dilfer as a #3. Collins has alot of knowledge as far as mechanics go and Dilfer knows the WCO. Given those two attributes plus a former QB coach running the team I see nothing but greatness for JC this year!!!

Re: Zorn wants Collins back
i do not want dilfer, not a single bit... he's trash weather he knows the offense or not man
|
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
No no no....we need Collins gone. The last thing we need is Campbell constantly looking over his shoulder.

If Cambell's psyche is that fragile he may want to think about another career. In this league you need 2 good QB's at least. |

This is the NFL you are always looking over your shoulder at all positions, if you can't handle that your not going to make it in this league to begin with. Why in the world would you want to see one hell of a solid backup, that even turned into a really good starter for us last season, not here? This is the business of football at the highest level you HAVE to have proven depth at your QB position I would argue this is the most important backup role more than any other position on the team. I think we found that out in the last four games of last season. Its not a luxury it's a necessity. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
Collins is like a hot girl that we keep on the side. ;) - Todays smiley face brought to you by Om, the creepy 47 year old smiley face man.

no just the niners junk line was awful..they went through like 4 qb's this year due to injuries. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
I would suggest that perhaps Zorn doesn't especially want Collins back with the team. Even the staunchest defenders of Collins would say that he is a system guy, and we are going to a new system.
Zorn probably realizes that there are a number of fans who love what Collins did for this team last year, and if he makes no effort to re-sign Todd, he will be excoriated by the fans and pundits. So he says he wants him here, but makes no strong effort to keep him. That way it's a financial issue, and he can't be raked over the coals. |

Then why not just give Dilfer a coaching role? |
Then why not just give Dilfer a coaching role?
I'm a little confused in general why we would need another 'mentor' for Campbell if Dilfer was to fulfill that role. Isn't that why we brought a guy named ZORN to Washington? |

Not really.. A coach can only do so much, especially a head coach.. A veteran QB, mentor if you will, can spend time after practice or film time during camp or just an extra ear on the sidelines to talk thru things.. A head coach has so many other responsibilities he's got to handle and there are only so many hours he can dedicate to one player. |

the same way collins was helping campbell learn saunders offense. |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
Will Collins be as effective in another offense as he was Al Saunders? I'm for holding on to him or Brunell but not both and perhaps drafting a late round QB.

Something tells me though he can handle Todd Collins being his backup. The offer to Collins is quite clear, he's welcome to return as Campbell's backup. There should be no threat to Campbell's job at all. |

Nobody is going to fault a new coach for bringing in his own guys, especially at the QB postion when the new HC is a QB guru. I think Collins really proved himself last year and he earned a lot of respect in the process. He's a smart guy and the WCO would seem to be a good fit for him. I think it would be a smart move to retain him. |

That shouldn't bother him. He's the starter and needs to perform no matter who is # 2. Zorn was a QB and I guess he really liked what Collins pulled off last year, he's staying. Zorn gets what he wants..... |
Re: Zorn wants Collins back
no reason for collins its not his system. I'd say culpepper. then draft a late round qb

Re: Zorn wants Collins back
As it appears Gus is getting the axe. You would have to think Al & The Rams will try to make a run at getting Collins.
POSTED 11:58 p.m. EST, February 27, 2008 GUS GONE Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Rams will be cutting the cord on quarterback Gus Frerotte. He had been serving as the backup to Marc Bulger. Coach Scott Linehan told Frerotte on Wednesday of the team's intent. Frerotte had been due to receive a $500,000 roster bonus. Frerotte and Linehan had been linked for several seasons, during mutual stints in Minnesota, Miami, and finally in St. Louis. Since joining the Redskins in 1993 as a low-round draft pick who ultimately beat out golden boy Heath Shuler, Frerotte has played for a total of seven teams. He has thrown for 19,134 yards, 102 touchdowns, and 91 interceptions in generating a passer rating of 74.3. |

Re: Zorn wants Collins back
I think the more interesting story here is actually Rosenfels (is he this year's Schaub?)

Coming on late in their careers both in high demand. Just think if JC would not have gone down last season, TC would have never got the chance but as the story goes TC gets a chance and plays lights out gets us into the playoffs. His stock takes off, if it weren't for JC going down who's TC. Looks as though TC is going to reel in a nice payday very late in his career and a possible chance to start.
