giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
on Fantasy Baseball - Football, Basketball, Hockey, forums, rankings, draft guide - Rotoworld.com they posted a rumor that the giants gm is trying to trade the 31st pick in the draft to the falcons for conerback deanglo hall. i had heard earler that the falcons wanted to move him ,and it didnt take long to find a suitor. i also asume that this deal is to help atlanta move up to mamia's number 1 pick to get qb matt ryan.i didnt see anything posted on this yet ,but if there already was something posted fell free to delete.

Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
I don't see why they would use this pick (assuming they trade for it) to move up to #1 and select a QB that is pretty far from a sure thing. Especially considering that they wouldn't have a lot to surround him with. I say they have to many needs and stocking up on 3 players in the first 34 picks will go a long way towards helping them rebuild. Especially in a draft thats deep at QB. I would use the first few picks on a RB (DM), an OL, and a S (Kenny Phillips). Those three picks would include guys that could contribute right away, while picking the wrong guy to play QB, especially so early in the draft will set them back even further then they already are.
With that said I don't really want the Giants to get better and I'm pretty sure that the guys bad attitude will change on a winning team. |
Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
halodoc:
If any team spends existing capital to trade up so they can draft Matt Ryan in the #1 slot earning that team the honor of paying him a guaranteed $30-35M, the team will be sorry for that. |
Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
great deal for the giants. hall's contract was maxed on bonus cash, so he'd be cheap (though i assume there'd be a new deal involved).
hall wasn't as good as the early hype he was getting, but he can play. |
Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
thatguy, i think if im the skins, i would trade my #21 for hall. young( i think he is 24) already been to the pro bowl. and would fit in nicely next to springs. already a proven player in this league

Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
i agree. he is pretty physical, a vet at a young age, and 2 year nfl fastest man.

Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
He's another TO, cries when things dont go his way. Gets into fights with his coordinators. Please dont bring him in.

Amen. I'm a Hokie, but I don't like D. Hall. His last year at VT in 2003, the team was very talented but fell apart at the end. Hall was said to be a big part of the locker room division. The next year w/him gone, the team won the ACC. I know it's a bit much to blame 1 guy only, but look at Hall's pro career- lots of talent, but still a bad teamate & prone to fighting w/wr's who beat him, e.g. Steve Smith. |

I wouldn't be opposed to getting D. Hall but if we're trading that #1 pick for anyone, it better be Fitzgerald, Ocho or Roy Williams.. WR is a bigger need than CB. |

Are you sure? Rogers out. Springs good but older. Smoot solid but not a shutdown # 1 corner IMO. We have Moss and Randle El that are in the prime of their careers. I think we do need a WR but not sure if I'd be so quick to trade away picks for one. Larry Fitzgerald would be awesome in Washington but that's not our biggest need. Add Cooley to the passing mix and there's not enough balls for another stud wide-out with a huge monster contract and losing a pick. We run the hell out of the ball so think we need to stack up on defense. |
Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
I am a Hokie fan too and yep he might have had some problems in the locker, but watching him for a long time the man is a beast. The man can flat out fly, and Tech would have won the ACC with him the next year if he stayed anyway. I would take him on our team, he can cover, he's fast as hell and is very physical.

Re: giants trying to trade 31st pick for cb hall
The ESPN guy at the combine just said that the Giants, Cowboys, AND Redskins were all interested in acquiring D Hall from the Falcons.

Just in the division, our CB are better than Dallas or NYG and how did their seasons turn out? Moss and Randle El are decent #1 & #2 WR but would be excellent #2 and #3 WR.. Cooley's effectiveness will only increase with a stud WR.. Zorn isn't Gibbs who was going to try to pound the ball with super jumbo packages in the 2nd quarter on 2nd and 7 from the 45 yard line. We're going to see more 4-5 WR (including Cooley and Portis split out wide) sets than we've ever seen before and we need a stud who defenses have to account for on every play to open things up. |

i don't understand your reasoning. we have Santana Moss, and Randel El as our starters. both are proven nfl caliber receivers. at corner we start Springs, who is very old for a corner, and Smoot. at best, Smoot is a nickle corner, who is starting do to Rogers injury. who knows when, or even if, Rogers comes back. his injury is the most severe type of knee injury anyone can sustain. it will be a very long road to recovery for Mr. Rogers. im not saying our receiving corps is top notch, but the are at least adequate. right now, the skins have ONE legitimate starting nfl corner |

Yes, he did influence Al but we didn't just pound the ball at all the past two years. Yes when Portis went down in 06' we ran more b/c we sucked balls and lost every game. Last year we had a mix. I would pick first a defensive lineman and next a corner, just me. |

I didn't state we don't need a CB at all, but if we're going to trade our #1 pick, I'd rather see it for a WR than a CB. We can get a decent CB (Drayton Florence for example) thru free agency to hold the fort until Rogers comes back. I'm more comfortable with Springs/Smoot than I am with Moss/Randle El.. If we don't do anything, by Halloween we're 3 strong at CB yet still undersized and undermanned at WR. |

you say that this guy is a beast, fast as hell and a complete corner. well that might be true but should we totally forget about him publicly showing his support for an a-hole with the last name vick by running on the field with a poster and having his eye shades read MV7. Lets not forget him going off on his d-coordinator last year and wanting to pick fights with every receiver he faces, oh and getting unsportsmanlike penalties that cause your team victories. One word- Classless

I agree DL and CB are positions of need, but if we are going to trade the #1 pick I would rather do it for a stud WR than a CB, that's all I am saying. It's not going to be Spurrier 2.0 with us going 5 wide every play, but if you watched any of Seattle's games, they went 3 and 4 wide often and ran out of those sets. We will go 5 wide when the opportunity presents. Just because we didn't do it last year, doesn't mean we won't have the personnel to do it this year. When we were going 3 TE, 1 WR, we didn't need a stud WR to draw additional coverage, but if we have a Fitz, Ocho or Williams on one side, Moss on the other, the safeties are going to have to account for them.. What does that do? Open up more running lanes for Portis. Adding a stud WR helps the running game just as much as the passing game. It doesn't equate to Mike Martz throwing the ball 60 times a game. I expect our offense to look more like Andy Reid/Mike Holmgren than anything we've seen from Redskins teams of the past. |
Florence is a career back-up Nickel back not proven NFL starter.
Exactly, that's why he's brought in as depth to play that position once Rogers returns.. Follow me here, if Rogers is out, Springs & Smoot start, Florence is the nickel/backup CB.. Once Rogers returns, Springs and Rogers start, Smoot is the nickel, Florence is the dime.. Rogers isn't trying to recover from an amputation, it's a severe knee injury, he's back by Halloween.. We'll still have half a season left at that point. If we trade for D. Hall, do we cut Springs or does Smoot become the dime once Rogers returns? |

Agreed. Sad thing is the guy seems bright enough combined w/his physical ability that he could be a face of the nfl. Instead, he negates his playmaking by fighting w/Steve Smith et al and basically turning the game into a 1 on 1 fight rather than what's best for his team. Hall may mature, but in the next couple years I don't see him coming around. This is not a guy you bring in to a team in transition w/a new head coach that's never been one before. |

If there was anything positive to be gained from B.Loyd, it's that the front office & coaches will be a lot more cautious about signing guys w/bad reps. Hall is one such guy.

I said no. Go through Draft. You made comments about the offense that I disagree with also. We're still going to run allot more than you think. I guess lets just wait and see. Wanna bet me? I say we run 40-45% in 08'. 100 bucks. |

We're not going to see Lorenzo Alexander (or anyone else for that matter) going in motion as a 3rd TE next year.. We're not going to see super jumbo sets at midfield next year. We're going to see 4 WR, singleback sets, we're going to see a pro set with FB and HB lined up next to each other, we're going to see 3 WR and an I-formation.. If you go back and watch the Washington/Seattle playoff game (as I have since Zorn was hired) the difference in offensive SETS is huge. We were 2 or 3 TE for probably 60% of the game. They were 3 wide, 4 wide (and running the ball from those sets) for 70% of the game.. We will look drastically different in '08. |

Ironically, I agree w/your points here; a bad day in which a guy loses his cool can be excused. And supporting Vick isn't any big deal IMO, unless of course you say there's nothing wrong w/what Vick did (good point about CP's reaction when it went down). Hall wasn't the only player that did so & it was basically a symbolic show of frienship, not a pro dogfighting endorsement. However, I think Hall has more skeletons in the closet than this 1 game. Word around VT was that he was a bad influence on that team, very selfish & unpopular among teamates. I'm just going on heresy, but since he's been in Atl. his rep. hasn't improved. Did he ever own up to the penalties in the carolina game? Of course as fans we usually don't know any more than what we can get on tv, but based on that & his history, he's at least earned some skepticism. |

Be careful to not only judge the playoff game against us. That may have been a matchup they were trying to exploit. Look at what happened in NE when teams spread us out. Hawks should have put us away in first half, we were off balance on both sides. That's why a CB may be such a high priority! I feel if Jason Campbell was our QB in that game our offense would have looked better, his quickness and scrabble will be key. Our Offensive Coordinator from Titans and has been there for 13 years. I think our offense going to look more like Titans West Coast than Seattle. And that is not DRASTICALLY different from what Gibbs ran. |
