Latest FA news from KFFL
I'll try to keep this up to date on FA signings, contracts, and possible interest (though they tend to mention everyone and their brother as interested in every player) there'll be another thread for draft info when i see something worth posting there.

Vikings | Williamson allowed to seek trade options
Fri, 22 Feb 2008 10:14:09 -0800 John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Minnesota Vikings WR Troy Williamson has been given permission by the team to shop himself in a trade. According to Williamson's agent, David Canter, 14 teams have been contacted, and eight have shown interest enough to reach out to the Vikings about a possible trade. Canter would like to have a trade agreed upon prior to the start of the free agency period. Patriots | Team declines Stallworth's option Fri, 22 Feb 2008 09:53:42 -0800 Karen Guregian and John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, report the New England Patriots declined to pick up the option of WR Donte' Stallworth Friday, Feb. 22. Stallworth was scheduled to receive $6 million Sunday, Feb. 24, and an additional $2 million March 1. Stallworth is now free to negotiate with any NFL team. Cardinals | Team will honor Fitzgerald's contract Sat, 23 Feb 2008 16:56:24 -0800 During an interview at the NFL Scouting Combine, Arizona Cardinals vice president of football operations Rod Graves said he does not believe it was a mistake to structure WR Larry Fitzgerald's contract the way they did. "There's not many of the players taken in the top three that actually go on to be two and three-time Pro Bowlers during their rookie contract. So Larry has earned the right to be where he is and I think the contract is a good one for us. It recognizes his accomplishments. It is what it is. He has earned the right to be where he is and we also determined that if we should be at this point, we'd be back at the bargaining table to work out a long-term deal that was a little more palatable for the organization." When asked if the team would swallow the contract if no extension could be worked out, Graves said: "Yes, we will." just some WR news. stallworth is an interesting option, though he IS a tin can... fitz ain't happening, and williamson probably isn't worth bothering with. |
Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
Bears extend desmond clark (te) for two more years at a total of 5mill$
they also extended re-signed orton for two more years (who cares?) denver post is reporting we're trying for chad johnson, but javon walker and jerry porter could be fall back options. all three of those guys have had locker room issues recently, and walker's been injured too, so besides CJ, i'm not sure i'd want them... walker could be a huge steal, since his market value is dreadful right now and he could still be a 1000-1200 yard guy. |

Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
I have a feeling the Skins already have deals in place with Hackett and Florence, as evident in this PFT post.
One of the rumors making the rounds at the Scouting Combine is, as reported by Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, that the 49ers are negotiating (four days early) with defensive end Justin Smith. Other players who, as the rumor mill goes, might already have deals include receiver Bernard Berrian, cornerback Drayton Florence, and receiver D.J. Hackett. Then again, it could be that their agents are merely trying to drive up interest by spreading the word that a deal is done. For any players who have not been released by their current teams, discussion between new teams and the players (or their agents) constitute tampering. Virtually everyone does it, primarily because no one ever gets caught. |
I have a feeling the Skins already have deals in place with Hackett and Florence, as evident in this PFT post.
Personally I don't doubt that theres some truth to that. However I've learned over the years to take whatever PFT says with a grain of salt. PFT is known for putting a lot of stuff out there, all for the sake of getting readers. In my opinion they're the least credible source for football news and information as seen in their famous "Terry Bradshaw is dead" incident. The group also whines that people keep on steeling their "inside scoops" and if you look on thier website they are the least professional and objective source of information out there. In all honesty, what kind of professional site has a section entitled "turd watch?" |

Seahawks | Team offering Trufant six-year deal
Mon, 25 Feb 2008 23:10:50 -0800 Frank Hughes, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports the Seattle Seahawks are offering franchise free-agent CB Marcus Trufant a six-year deal worth less than San Francisco 49ers CB Nate Clements received over five years, according to league sources. Negotiations between the team and Trufant have stalled and may not resume until New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel signs and establishes the market for cornerbacks. The Seahawks were hoping to sign Trufant to a multi-year deal so they could free up some of the money tied up due to the franchise tag on Trufant. Sources indicated the team's offer was well below the $43 million Clements will earn in the first five years of his eight-year contract. Seahawks | Hackett unlikely to return to team Mon, 25 Feb 2008 23:05:48 -0800 Frank Hughes, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports Seattle Seahawks WR D.J. Hackett will become an unrestricted free agent Friday, Feb. 29, and he is unlikely to return to the Seahawks. Hackett's agent, Kevin Robinson, said, "We are going to test the market. I won't rule out Seattle as a destination but we are going to test the market and see what's out there." Jets | Vilma not allowed to seek trade with New England Tue, 26 Feb 2008 00:29:44 -0800 Mike Reiss and Christopher L. Gasper, of the Boston Globe, reports the New York Jets have permitted LB Jonathan Vilma to seek a trade, but he does not have permission to shop his services for the New England Patriots, according to sources close to Vilma. 49ers | Team to sign D. Foster Tue, 26 Feb 2008 00:52:44 -0800 John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the San Francisco 49ers are expected to sign free agent RB DeShaun Foster (Panthers) in the next couple of days. The 49ers contacted Foster quickly after he was released last week. 49er's also signed KR/PR allen rossum. |

Tue, 26 Feb 2008 11:20:22 -0800 Bob McGinn, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports the Seattle Seahawks signed free-agent OG Mike Wahle (Panthers) to a five-year deal worth $20 million Thursday, Feb. 14. The deal contains a signing bonus of $3.5 million and only $5.5 million in guaranteed money. good deal for the hawks. too bad we couldn't get there first. |
Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
Lions | Team may keep Rogers on roster
Tue, 26 Feb 2008 14:14:03 -0800 Tom Kowalski, of MLive.com, reports a source close to the Detroit Lions said the Lions will continue to negotiate possible trades for DL Shaun Rogers until Friday, Feb. 29, which is the first official day a trade can be made. The team is looking for at least a second-round or a third-round draft pick as compensation for Rogers. Rogers is due a $1 million roster bonus and the team plans to pay that bonus whether trade talks are lingering or not and head coach Rod Marinelli said numerous times that the team will not release Rogers. If the team cannot trade him within the next few weeks they may wait until the 2008 NFL Draft to see if interest for Rogers is still high. The team would hold onto Rogers into training camp if no trades are made. Patriots | Wilson to become unrestricted free agent Tue, 26 Feb 2008 14:13:36 -0800 ESPNews reports New England Patriots FS Eugene Wilson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent and will not re-sign with the Patriots. Patriots | Colvin released Tue, 26 Feb 2008 14:13:07 -0800 ESPNews reports the New England Patriots released LB Rosevelt Colvin Tuesday, Feb. 26. lions should keep rogers imo. |

49ers | Sopoaga re-signs with team
Tue, 26 Feb 2008 18:53:59 -0800 Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the San Francisco 49ers have re-signed DL Isaac Sopoaga to a five-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Broncos | Team tenders Foxworth Tue, 26 Feb 2008 22:38:43 -0800 Lee Rasizer, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports the Denver Broncos have tendered an offer to restricted free agent CB Domonique Foxworth. The team has affixed a low tender to him, which gives the team the right of first refusal if another team attempts to sign Foxworth and they would receive draft-round compensation if he leaves. Foxworth was a third-round selection in 2005. foxworth for a 3rd is worth considering. andre dyson is another cheap alternative at CB. though draftees like cromartie or tracy porter look pretty good too. |

Anderson is scheduled to become a restricted free agent Friday, Feb. 29. He can accept the Browns deal, or take a one-year tender worth $2.52 million. Panthers | Team signs Muhammad Wed, 27 Feb 2008 12:29:15 -0800 Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Carolina Panthers signed free-agent WR Muhsin Muhammad (Bears) Wednesday, Feb. 27. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Giants | Team tenders Butler's contract Wed, 27 Feb 2008 11:18:55 -0800 Mike Garafolo, of The Star-Ledger, reports the New York Giants tendered FS James Butler's contract Wednesday, Feb. 27. Butler received the second-round tender and will make $1.47 million if he signs the tender. If Butler signs with another team and the Giants do not match the offer, Butler's new team will owe the Giants a second-round draft pick. browns just bid against themselves on anderson... surprised it's not a 6 year deal though. |

Carr will find another job, but he's nothing more than a backup now. anderson and richardson are actually not total crap, though we don't really have a need for either, and richardson is ancient (36). |

Giants | G. Wilson might not return to team Wed, 27 Feb 2008 18:26:50 -0800 Mike Garafalo, of the Newark Star-Ledger, reports the New York Giants might not bring S Gibril Wilson back to the team. Wilson, who can become an unrestricted free agent Friday, Feb. 29, is looking for a contract that will pay him around $5 million per season. The Giants are unlikely to match what he is looking for, as they would think they are overpaying for a player who is a decent safety but not elite. bucs are trying to be this offseason's 49ers. coleman is good, but getting older, crumpler can still play (And they NEED a TE). wilson is nuts to think he's getting that much. he's not very good. |

Jets | Team involved in talks for S. Rogers
Wed, 27 Feb 2008 19:44:59 -0800 Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports the New York Jets are involved in trade talks with the Detroit Lions regarding DT Shaun Rogers. Dolphins | Team interested in S. Rogers Wed, 27 Feb 2008 19:43:43 -0800 Tom Kowalski, of Mlive.com, reports the Miami Dolphins are showing interest in Detroit Lions DT Shaun Rogers, according to a source close to the situation. Buccaneers | Team has about $40 million in salary cap space Wed, 27 Feb 2008 20:25:05 -0800 The St. Petersburg Times reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have about $40 million in salary cap space when the free-agent market opens Friday, Feb. 29. okay, this is tonight's biggest news. the jets have been trying to run a 3-4 with a ton of 4-3 personnel, and it hasn't worked... at all. the #1 they used on a DT is a bust, and they desperately need a nose tackle, which they probably aren't going to find in the draft when they pick... so they need a name or good luck on a lower round pick, and the safer route is obviously more appealing, since they missed badly last time. meanwhile, the dolphins getting rogers would mean they're looking at either ryan, long, or long... i don't think they have enough to make ryan successful yet, so i'd bet on one of the longs. jason taylor, long, rogers would be crazy, and honestly locks at DE are harder to find. the other long (OT) is VERY safe too... outside chance at mcfadden, but peterson was much better and the guy they got aint bad, so i'm kinda doubting that idea. I guess signing AND drafting a DT might happen, but traylor (DT) and roth (DE) are the guys that needed to be replaced yesterday. they'll probably try to sign a WR like berrian and draft a QB like henne or flacco in the top of the 2nd round (one or both should be available). |

That was the pick they got for Randy Moss. Perhaps a mistake to mortgage the farm for what they got back. |
Re: Latest FA news from KFFL
whats stupid is sometimes WRs take 3-4 years, so he might actually figure it out after being dumped for a bag of chips.
of course, that staff probably has the best knowledge on his potential. |
