Update: Bengals Acquire DT Rogers...Wait, Maybe It's The Browns

i would make that trade he is a beast

Re: how about shaun rogers?

There's a reason he's being traded and it's not because he's a beast. Besides he's more of a run-stuffer. We've got that with Montgomery and Golston. We need a 3-technique athletic pass rushing d tackle.

Hes going to want a big payday because he feels that he is one of the top DT's in the league and I would say it would take a 2nd or a 3rd

we had a few blocked kicks in the last few years. I do not think he is worth bringing here for what he thinks he is worth just to block kicks...

Re: how about shaun rogers?

The guy can get after the QB and, if you can get pressure from up the middle, you free up your D Ends, also it's far more difficult to avoid a pass rush from up the middle. Sure, I'd love to have him, but they can't trade for him and Roy Williams and...whomever. If they make a deal for him, I'd be for it as long as we still have most of our draft picks.

skinsnut 02-24-2008 02:54 PM

Re: how about shaun rogers?

If we dont go after a big receiver, I'd give them a 5th this year and golston
I dont know if they'd take that though.
They want picks for CB I think.

Also, his price could be way high.

skinsnut 02-24-2008 03:05 PM

Re: how about shaun rogers?

on 2nd thought, this guy is a better 3-4 type lineman...like the perfect nose tackle.
I dont think he is a match for our dline...I think they are looking for a high 3rd rounder for him and they'd jump on a 2nd.

Why does someone always have to bring up the veteran minimum? :'(

Anyway, on a seperate note, for the sake of emphasizing the Bronco thing:

Lions general manager Matt Millen acknowledged he would listen to offers for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, and there is no question that there is interest, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports.
According to a source, approximately five or six teams have expressed interest in Rogers, who can be one of the most dominating defensive players in football. Rogers' name has been mentioned in trades in recent years, but this is the most serious talk of a possible deal. Last year, the Lions gave Cory Redding a seven-year, $47.5 million contract, moving him to defensive tackle in an effort to motivate Rogers.

he's a beast, but only for 20 plays a game. i'd rather spend money on an every down guy. that said, it's pretty stupid for the lions to trade him, unless there's some locker-room/off field stuff we haven't heard about.

Re: how about shaun rogers?

He ate his way out of Detroit.

Was that because he knew the Lions stunk and he had a contract that would keep him there so he found a way to get the team to cut him? If that is not the case, let him go elsewhere...

NO TRADES!!!

Has the SDAS (Snyder Dumb @ss Syndrome) rubbed off on all of you guys. Every year you guys want to trade picks for some player(granted some trades are legitimate, but most of the ones that we discuss or pass our way aren't), and in a year where we have close to a full stock of draft picks, people still wanna let em go like Teddy Pendergrass. Thats beat! Lets keep all of our picks for at least 3 years and lets see what happens.

Haven't you guys seen the trend? Most players work hard their first contract and then chill once they come to a sucker-fied team like the Skins that will pay them top-dollar because of their past laurels. Then, as the sucker, we are stuck with a guy who was just trying to get a pay day (e.g. Deion, Bruce Smith, L Coles, B Lloyd, T Duckett, Adam Archuleta, etc.)

Rather than being a sucker - again, I propose we stay sucker-free!!

Build through the draft and lets not get a woody anytime some player hits the free agent market or is mentioned in trades.

Let the players that we draft become "core" Redskins by proving themselves with modest rookie contracts, and then by that time, hopefully, we can decide whether we can to keep or, how about this, trade them for picks that we can have!

Oh my, what a novel idea!

I second that, draft picks suck. Lets trade for two former Lion's. Lol

Either way, if there is a disgruntled lieman to be traded for, the Bronco's are on it. To bad the Redskins don't have any disgruntled D-Lineman, if we did they could that player and a draft pick.

Who would be a better option, Rogers...or DeWayne Robertson?
Who would be a better option, Rogers...or DeWayne Robertson?
Depends, if you think you're a player away from competing then Rogers is the better option. However if you want a more consistent player then Robertson is your guy. Plus Robertson is two years younger making him about 27 going into to next season while Rogers is pushing 30.

Rogers seems to be playing great part of the season and poorly during other parts. However winning has a strange way of motivating people

Re: how about shaun rogers?
Who would be a better option, Rogers...or DeWayne Robertson?
Smoot, is this why you asked about Robertson:

"Defensive line also is an area of interest, but it could be a primary target in the draft. Cerrato has told several agents that he aims to bolster the pass rush, ideally from the interior of the line. The Redskins might talk to the New York Jets about defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, who is on the trading block. "

How about that, you got we to give an unbiased opinion of Robertson before I knew the Skins' were considering trading for him. If we can get him for a second day pick that would be great. I think the main reason the Jets are dealing him is to get cap room, but I'll have to look into that.

Robertson, who is a poor fit for the Jets' 3-4 scheme and carries an $11.2 million cap number, is on the trading block, the New York Daily News reports. The Broncos are among a handful of teams showing interest in the 26-year-old defensive tackle, according to the newspaper. Robertson is scheduled to make $9.8 million in 2008 and is signed through 2009. He's produced only 14.5 sacks in five seasons, but many scouts and personnel people believe Robertson could thrive in the right 4-3 system.

I like it. Hopefully they can get his cap numbers up to speed.

Hmmm. No that's the first I've seen that. I heard yesterday that he might be on the trading block and I meant to ask if y'all thought he was a better option than Rogers. But then I forgot to ask until I saw this thread pop up again.

Any idea what round draft pick are they looking for Robertson?

Dirtbag59 02-28-2008 01:53 AM

Re: how about shaun rogers?
Any idea what round draft pick are they looking for Robertson?
My guess is that the Jets are looking for no higher then a 3rd round pick. I say this because right now the Lions are currently going to trade Rogers for a 2nd or 3rd round pick from the Bronco's and Rogers is a 2 time Pro-Bowler so on paper he looks better.

I still say that its possible to bring him in for a 5th or 6th round, in part because Troy Williamson (a former 7th overall pick) was traded to the Jaguars for salary cap reasons in exchange for a 6th round pick. Of course Robertson is more productive then Williamson but his cap number seems to be the main reason for the trade. I believe it's 9 million this year, but the good new's is that we won't be responsible for any of the signing bonus, of course knowing the Redskins they'd probably renegotiate.

If it was for a second day pick I would love it. For one I think his arrival here would be similar to Griffins a few years back, and it would allow us to come away from the draft with a DB, OL, and DE.

Ironically I found a pretty good commentary on ES. Remember this is written by a member. In my opinion he's either really smart or he copied it straight out a newspaper:

Quote:

He also has anothr 3M currently scheduled to be allocated in 2009. He's due a $3M bonus in June that is a 'fish or cut bait' roster bonus often used in lieu of voidable years. Remember, this bonus has yet to be paid. So, we have 11.8M cap hit if he plays for the Jets versus about 6M if he's traded before June. Only thing is, I don't know their current dead-money situation or how they manage that pool, so they may not want to be adding 6M to the dead-money pool although sunk money is sunk money. The team that does the trade will take around $a 4M cap hit if they don't extend him but did just a standard re-work. With a re-worked contract that he'd most likely be given, he'd have a 2008 hit of around 2 to 2.5M (he would end up pocketing about 12.5M this year and another 10 to 13 next year at the 2.5 figure).

So with that said looks like we could bring in Robertson for a late second day pick.

That Guy 02-28-2008 03:10 AM

Re: how about shaun rogers?

the jets fans hate him. they have him playing NT and he just can't do it. for a 2nd day pick maybe, but i'd be hesitant to give up a 3rd for him. if it's a 5th, yeah, sure. I'd do that all day... i'd sign him long term too, since he's cheap now.

as far as rogers vs him... rogers is clearly a much better player, but he's also much more expensive and stays on the field for shorter periods of time, while also costing us a higher pick for an old guy.

I was about to say, how the hell did a report that came out 9 minutes ago become a 3 page thread? Bad trade IMO for the Lions. A stragiht up swap for Stroud would have been in their best interest.

As long as the Dolphins don't beat us to it I will go on record and predict the Redskins trade a 5th round pick for Dewayne Robertson.
