Ernest Wilford - FA

Ernest Wilford is 6'4'' and 220lbs, he's from around here and he would most likely come real cheap.. I dont see the harm in signing another big body to compete for the posession reciever job.. besides you always need to have depth if he doesnt start..he runs a 4.38 - 40 yard dash and he didnt show a case of dropsies..

Please Dan, please look at signing local productive players like him. we need players like this to keep the level of competition throughought the depth chart tough.

"As you can see, this leaves Matt Jones, Ernest Wilford, Roosevelt Kiser, and D’Juan Woods cut from the team, with Woods and Kiser practice squad eligible. While former 1st round pick Matt Jones and fan favorite Ernest Wilford have not been “bad” in camp, the six listed above have been the best performers." -

Looks good to me, but I think he will not be as cheap as you think. His stats are as good as Lloyd's were and we gave a third and a forth round pick for him. Where did you get the 4.38 forty. At the 2004 combine he ran a 4.78, which explains his low yards per catch number.

But Wilford was cut.. He's a free agent.. We wouldnt have to give up any picks for him.. and he's a big body just like we need. Not only is he big but hes fast he runs a 4.38- 40.

I went to Fork Union Military Academy and knew Ernest he went there my Jr. year (98-99; same year as newly signed Billy McMullen actually) no way does he runs a 4.3 that 4.7 sounds right. And of course i think he would be a GREAT pick up... good posession type reciever who is a real threat in the red zone, hard working, high character guy, and compared to the other FAs he would come cheap... but ill admit to having a biased opinion

Re: Ernest Wilford - FA

he runs a 4.4 inside and a 4.6 outdoors.

While I disagree with you on the whole Wilford over Hacket dibocle, at least you bring numbers and facts to the table on top of what you think personally. That way I feel like I'm debating with a person instead of a monkey.

A lot of people around here lobby for a player with little or no basis for their opinion, saying stuff like

"man this guy is so 1337, we must sign."
"Why?"
"Cuz he r so awesome."
"But the guy only averages 2 yards per carry behind a decent offensive line."
"But he wears vizor, we must have. Plus in Madden he has 98 speed."

With that said I still prefer Hacket. Though if Hacket commands to high a price I wouldn't mind Wilford.

Like the people who swear we're going to get Chad Johnson or Roy Williams (WR). LOL.

Yeah I'd say if Hackett was expensive as well we could go after Wilford, but not if he gets too expensive. I like both those guys, they both were decent guys who aren't gonna command huge salaries and they are pretty productive.

wilford, good big receiver, played in the run heavy jags offense so his stats werent as big as possible. id definitely give him a shot. went to vt :)

I think we can give him some thought, who knows may be a good option.

If we want a big WR just stick with developing Mix.

Bruce Smith did OK.

Re: Ernest Wilford - FA

Wilford never had great hands, he would drop some passes at VT & I recall him having some problems in J'ville. But it seems he's become pretty dependable w/the limited no. of attempts he gets.

I like him cause he's a Hokie & a good team guy, but I'm weary of bringin in another slow reciever. He's not better than Caldwell & he's probably slower. We not only need height we need some speed too. Moss is the only guy that can sprint by a db.

Wilford might be just what we need, but he is NOT fast. He can play though.

Re: Ernest Wilford - FA

A big reciever here in DC would be great. I really dont see how this could be a bad move. He's a FA and if he's not asking for a dumpload of cash, then sign him, why the F not? It's painstakingly obvious that we need a possesion receiver.

yeah exactly, and it would be out the box. If we still wanted to draft a receiver we could and he could help mix and the guy we draft develop but this guy makes clutch catches, he's a big body, and will go across the middle.. he's not 'slow' by any means but hes not a burner either.

hhaha yeah I understand what you mean.. I just seriously think this guy could be a noce target for campbell to learn to bond with.. He's been trying to battle for a spot amongst a ton of 1st round WR that the jags have picked. He's had limited reps but has done pretty well. I think he could be a great sign. HE's used to about the same kind of west coast offense we will be running,
