ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach

Nice article from ESPN on REDSKINS posted today. |
Re: Changes look good
I'm the first to admit my eternal optimism regarding Washington each year. With that being said, Zorn really has impressed me by how confident he seems and sure of himself. Think he's a winner and here to stay.
Loved his comments on Jason Campbell and 7 new coaches/systems in this article. Campbell's ego and confidence was a bit shaken after last years events. I can tell by Zorn's comments and little tidbits here and there. Zorn will maximize Campbells productivity and that's going to mean wins. |
Re: Changes look good
I'm kind of excited about the new approach and that we hired Zorn to be coach. When kept interviewing other people for the job in the end I said to myself why just we hire Zorn to be coach since he was already the quarterback coach for one of the best coaches in the league in Holmgren. Wouldn't it be something if Zorn has a rough first year and then we went after Holmgren to be coach and president and demote Zorn to Offensive Coordinator and QB coach. I'm saying that I agree with that but it is something to look at in the near future. Zorn may be need some more time before becoming a HC and Holmgren could teach him the ropes of being a great coach. At the salary Zorn is making now it is really the same as Garrett who is just the Assistant Head Coach-Offense. The only we have to do is give Zorn that title and promise him that he will be the head coach again when Holmgren retires this time.

Holmgren is done coaching after this year. Zorn is our man. Pretty funny you have Snyder as your icon signature!!! |
Re: Changes look good
Just to recap. the past month:
1. Hired a relatively unheralded coach who is known for being a great teacher, and a high-character guy. 2. Promoted Vinny to the executive personnel position (effectively making him our general manager) 3. Announced that we would be taking a conservative approach to a free agency market that we perceive to be a seller's market 4. Retained a great deal of our coaching staff 5. Quelched any potential for a QB controversy 6. Removed a talented, high-priced player who was a cancer My opinion? These are all the right moves. In just one month my perception of the Redskins and Snyder has really changed quite a bit. Here's to hoping they keep it up |

Re: Changes look good
What a good article. It's nice to see something POSITIVE written about our 'Skins for once. I like all the changes that have been made thus far, especially Lloyd saying bye-bye, and I am VERY confident at this point.
Dan Snyder's complete 180 has stunned me beyond belief. Maybe JG is in the background kicking Danny in the nuts every time he mentions something silly like Randy Moss coming to DC. |
Re: Changes look good
It's a nice aricle, I'm cautiously optimistic, after all, we haven't even started the fa period.
|
Re: Changes look good
i like what i,ve seen thus far as well...keep it up...

Re: Changes look good
Watch...in 3 days, we'll drop 80 million for Briggs and trad our 1st round pick for Chad Johnson...jk

Re: Changes look good
Hard not to be excited in the direction we're headed in offensively.
I'm not super pumped about next year, but I think we can look forward to being perennial contenders. Wish we weren't in a division this though, but that's the breaks. I have the vibe that we're going to be a disciplined team on the attack. Just overall increased efficiency. Better play clock management, two minute drill, timing, and just a general tightening up on offense. The play makers are there, and we don't need to add much (a WR is all IMO). We just need the depth now. Defense has me worried, but we've got an entire off season to worry about that one. |
Re: Changes look good
Nice to see us gettin some well earned respect!

Nice article, can't wait for pre-season

Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
the first year with a new system probably won't be so hot, but our first time HC/playcaller/OC etc has a strong support system, was able to bring the guys he wanted for his system in, and didn't have to worry about the rest of the staff that wasn't directly related to installing his WCO (trainers, defense, etc).
nothing to complain about so far. just hope for a couple key signings (WR/CB #3) and a good draft (first 3 picks should give us 2 starters between DE, DT, and S with a backup OL guy). |
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
I love this quote from the article, "I think he's cited that he's had seven offensive coordinators in the years he's played college and the pros,'' Zorn said. "I just say, 'That's the way it goes.' I can't change that. He can't change that. What we can do is not [dwell] on that. We can't use that as a reason he can't do something. He should be able to do a lot of things now. That's the way I look at it, you should be able to do everything now that you've had so many offensive coordinators."
It tells me that Zorn is going to be tough love type of coach with Campbell.. Enough with the excuses (although that's more of a media thing than a Campbell thing I believe) let's just focus on getting the job done and getting you and this team where you need to be. |
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
Zorn does have a good point here:
"He should be able to do a lot of things now. That's the way I look at it, you should be able to do everything now that you've had so many offensive coordinators." JC has probably seen and heard it all by now as far as schemes and terminology go. And I think his basic point is dwelling on the past gets you nowhere. You've gotta keep moving forward. JC doesn't seem like one for making excuses so I think he and Zorn will be a good fit in that regard. |
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
That article is a nice, positive spin on the Skins situation. I am usually a Redskin pessimist, having been trained to be so since Joe Gibbs first retired, but for for some reason I find myself being uncharacteristically pleased with the way things are going so far this offseason.
I have been a long time closet Seahawks fan, I was 10 when they entered the league and thought their uniforms and logo were really cool back then. So hiring Zorn in any capacity I thought was pretty neat. I came to really think it was a good move when I spoke to a couple friends who live in Seattle and are hardcore Hawks fans. They were under the impression that when Holmgren retired the job would go to either Zorn or Mora, and both were bummed that Zorn cam to Washington because they were hoping he would get the nod there over Mora. So...I will say that I have poured myself a nice glass of Redskin Kool-aid, but I am not quite ready to drink it. Time will tell. |

Think that JC may lack a bit of mental toughness and Zorn will make sure he's tough. It did worry me how JC would make those key interceptions to lose instead of win on too many occassions. He also was off on many passes too often, he lacked focus and sharpness. Zorn is the best thing that could have happened for his career. I did hear JC in articles cite the offensive system thing and its awesome Zorn publicly shuts that shit down!!!!! |

Chalk it up to inexperience. He often drove us into position to win, he just needs to take that next step and start sealing the deal. |

He's such a talent and the skills all there for a franchise player. Hope he turns the corner which I'm sure he will. I'm not really a gambling man any longer but I would have bet the house that JC would NOT have taken us 4 straight into the playoffs. Just didn't have that feeling. Not trying to be negative. |

The defense led the way the rest of the way, but if he had been picked off multiple times along the way, then perhaps we would have lost to the Vikings or the Giants. |

I'm not sure if we would have beaten the Bears. This is a dumb arguement but who knows. Collins hit Yoder for a perfect pass and JC just looked lost and his confidence shaken badly IMO. Think the time to sit and watch and reflect did him well. Zorn will make sure he's stellar and ready to work and win. Think better stats and more wins in our future with JC. |

Now if the Skins can just keep their word and not go bonkers in Free Agency and also keep their picks it will be a successful offseason. I know that agents hate what Vinny said about the Skins being quiet, but Vinny and Dan may have learned from the rescent past that going after the big names does not always pan out. |
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
Break-down of all Free Agents since 2000. Skins have some good, bad, and ugly!!

Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
If things go south over the next 2-3 years, you think Vinny would take more heat than Zorn?
|
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
If it's due to personnel issues, sure. Why would he not?
|
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
I apologize if you've already hashed this out with someone else. But you could leak to the press before firing Zorn, that he was instrumental and had equal say in the personel decision making process. Im just speculating, but we both know that Vinny swings an awfully big D with Dan.

Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
take your time, there are alot of teams out there looking to get rid of players, they know what we need let them come to us that way we get a better deal
|
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
I like the approach, but I think snyder is kicking himself for not repeating his usual mistakes.
|
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
I wonder how George Allen would have faired during the Internet Age. Lol, "Allen trades 1st round pick for Jared Allen. 2nd round pick for Marcus Stroud and 3rd round pick for Javon Walker."
|
Re: ESPN: Snyder, Skins Appear Committed to New Approach
Refreshingly nice article! Thanks for sharing. I am excited about this approach the Redskins are taking and hopefully it will pay off. We will know in time.
