Brunell's contract voided

Note — The Redskins voided quarterback Mark Brunell's contract, saving $3.4 million against the salary cap and getting them under the $116 million limit more than 30 hours before tomorrow's 11:59 p.m. deadline. It doesn't mean the 37-year-old won't return, but if he does, it will be at a lower price than his previously slated $6.5 million. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
Thanks for the playoff run in 05' and your completion record was cool to watch.
But its time to say goodbye to the pump faking, slow moving, ball tapping, short throwing, great locker room and team QB! |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
He could still return. If Collins leaves I think we'll look to bring MB back at a much cheaper price.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
Don't see him back. Think he's done here. That was Gibbs guy and if Zorn loses Collins we'll sign another veteran he picks.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
If he comes back, fine. I am no hater.
If not, thanks for the Ring of Shame game and the 2005 playoff run. Regardless of your play, you were always a class act. |

Matty - something like the old board favorite saying - vet min? Or do backup qb's typically get around $1 million? |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
Well he's got my respect for everything he did for the team, he gave me some pretty damn good memories. If he's back then that's fine and cool with me, but if not I wish him luck elsewhere.

Agreed. If Collins gets picked up. I expect to see Mark back with a #2 QB contract, (fairly low money deal). IMO he would be just fine in that role, espicially in a west coast system. |

Re: Brunell's contract voided
I just think that we need to rid ourselves of all of the Gibbs players excluding Portis, Moss, Washington, Griffin. If this is going to be Zorn's team for years to come then he needs to bring in his own personnel to make his system run. We need to get more of Zorn's personnel for his west coast offense as well as coaches. I believe next year we will pursue the Eagles's QB coach to be our QB coach cause I believe that Zorn just has to much on his plate for a rookie head coach.

so...who exactly do you want them to get rid of ? besides brunell. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
hopefully brunell will return at a more reasonable salary. apparently gus frerotte has been cut by st. louis. so i'm sure they'll be inquiring about collins if they haven't already (probably have).
i'd rather have brunell than dilfer, personally. i like him in a stop gap role. i'd still like to see us get a younger back up somewhere though. maybe an undrafted rookie if we can find someone worth developing. maybe even a 6th rounder but i think we have greater needs to address with our draft picks. but if, say, colt brennan drops as far as some are predicting him to, and we can snag him in the 4th round. i'd say go for it. |

Are you serious with this? Washington and Griffin aren't as good as they once were and I don't think Portis and Moss are either to be honest. The personel on this team is fine. We need to keep what we have, I am so sick of hearing about how we need to bring in all these west coast people. You mean to tell me that the people on our team cant run a west coast offense. Their humans they can learn. continuity is the key here. and who the hell is the eagles qb coach. why are you already looking towards the 09 offseason. youve got some thinking to do there buddy |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
We definitely have needs at qb. I would like to see Brunell & Collins back myself, but that's unlikely & it would mean any rookie qb would be on the practice squad, just like Palmer last year when he got picked up.
Brunell would be a fine backup in Zorn's O. I think he's got 1 more good year of backup ability left. He has the respect of his teamates here & that means a lot too. I hope to see him in b&g again. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
If he's the backup so be it...other then Collins there is no backup out there that's going to excite anyone.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
I like Brunell...hes a classy guy...but so is Collins.
Either would have an easier time in a WC offense. If he doesn't return, I will always remember the Dallas 4th quarter comeback game with Moss..A classic. Thanks for the good memories! |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
It's about time. I will say however that i want either him or Collins back. One or the other.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
I'm excited that we saved so much space.
I really hope we don't sign him again too. He had extreme difficulties learning the Saunders offense, and he kept his injuries quiet and hurt the team by doing so. He did well for that one year, but it's time to cut ties and be done with him. Let Zorn bring in who he wants, after all, he was a QB and should know what to look for. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
I'm glad were under, MB was getting paid to much to sit on the bench his arms was to weak to be effective and he lost his mobility bring in someone new and a little younger
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
I don't think I've ever seen a QB dump the ball to the check down receiver as much as Mark. He gave it an honest shot, but I think it's time for him to move on.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
Even though MB was Gibbs guy he cost Gibbs more than any other player in his 4 years back. Gibbs just made a bad choice and then with his cap issues we were stuck with him. I think Gibs would have had better success if he would have found a younger QB with a good set of skills. With that said I feel MB gave us his best, was a classy guy, team player and I wish him the best of luck in life.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
I think Brunell comes back and with his knowledge of the west coast Offense, is a solid #2...that way should Campbell go down again, Brunell comes in and lights it up just like Collins did....and then the QB controversy starts all over again!!! just kidding
Well wishes to Brunell wherever he goes...he is a class act! |

Especially that first year in 04. If we had just an average QB that year we make the playoffs. But I think MB should come back if Collins goes to STL. I DO NOT WANT DIFLER OR GUS. Dilfer was worse than Alex Smith who is a total bust. And Gus was just awful filling in for Bulger. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
Who knows... maybe with some defensive help we would have been ok with MB in 2006.

If you think about Gibbs past 4 years. He had MB for three and a young QB for his fourth year coaching. Not sure if they get the blame for the weak O's we had those years but it makes you wonder if Gibbs just did not pick MB what could have been the difference in our team. |

I think if TC goes we will NEED a backup and he'll ask for more. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
I would love to bring in Trent Dilfer as a QB coach, but it looks likes the guy still wants to play. Dilfer knows what Zorn wants so bringing him in for, yes, the veteran minimum as a 3rd QB would be great. I think I alreday mentioned that I want Collins to stay, mainly because hes a QB that bases his throws on timing and the WCO is about timing. Also heard that Zorn will retain the framework of Saunders system while making it his own. Could have sworn that he said the terminology would be the same. Either way Collins has rapport with the Recievers and Zorn to coach him at QB, with that said I would like to bring him back.

I truly disliked 80% of the time you were on the field.
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
na na na na hey hey hey good bye
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
he gave us a good dallas game at least.
there's a chance he'll be the #3 here... cause it'll give him something to do. WCO suits him better, and he could still be okay for 2 games a year. that said, i really don't care if its him or a rookie in the #3 spot next year. |
Re: Brunell's contract voided
goodbye and good riddance! call gibbs up,he loved you so much he'll probably consider replacing tony stewart for you!

Re: Brunell's contract voided
Just heard over the radio that Cerrato says they're going to look in the draft for a 3rd string qb. Brunell's career is over in DC. Are we going to have a Mark Brunell good bye thread?
|
Re: Brunell's contract voided
TC was signed, I don't see him coming back at all now.

Looking for a veteran presence to back up newly annointed starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have expressed interest in Brunell, according to The Washington Times. Brunell began his career in Green Bay as one of Brett Favre's backups in 1993. The 37-year-old free agent has spent the last four seasons in Washington, where he started 33 games from 2004 to 2006. "There are five teams [including the Packers] that have expressed a potential interest in signing Mark," said Brunell's agent, Bruce Tollner. "[They] know he has great experience, an ability to step in and win games and would be excellent in supporting their starter."
