Justin Smith
He is a UFA, correct? I know there are a million of these type threads going but, I feel this needs to be addressed. The guy is a monster, plays fast and hard and I would love to see him in burgundy and gold.
Any thoughts? |

We don't have the money

Re: Justin Smith
You tryin' to impress me? Think you can bribe your way into my good favors by starting a thread about Justin Smith?
I'd love him here, but it's not likely |

I'd love him here, but it's not likely
Hahaha...maybe, maybe. At least this way I know this thread wont be locked unless it gets hijacked. As unlikely as it is, I'm just saying that I would love to see us go out and at least try and get him, that is, if he hasnt already signed with someone before I posted this, which is likely as well. We just need a good DE and I would give a pinky finger to have him here. I might go and trade for him in my Madden Franchise just to keep my hopes alive. lol |
Re: Justin Smith
He's a Miami Dolphin.
|
Re: Justin Smith
smooty, you put him up to this? Smith going to want alot of money. but he is one guy i wouldn't mind seeing here. high energy, and still young

is that official? |
Re: Justin Smith
is that official?
Ha, my bad. I saw it go across the bottom line- it's Justin SMILEY who the Phins signed to a 5 year deal. At first glance it looked like Justin Smith. So no, it's not true. Sorry. |
Re: Justin Smith
Probably too pricey for our taste this year. The guy is a baller though.

He's very durable- he's started all 16 games every year since 2002, but is he really that great?? His sack totals the past 4 seasons: 2, 7.5, 6, 8. 2 sacks last year in 16 starts?? Chris Wilson doubled that number last year and didn't start a single game. I don't know if I'd call Justin Smith a "baller." |
Re: Justin Smith
Smith is a complete defensive lineman, he's not a one-dimensional pass rushing specialist. That's not a knock on Wilson by any means. Just that Smith can do so many things well.
|

Sorry Smooty, I didn't mean to diss your man-crush. :) I'm reading the Vikes are actively pursuing both him and Berrian. |

I'm reading the Vikes are actively pursuing both him and Berrian.
Well, if JS doesn't sign with the Redskins...he's dead to me!! :) Could you imagine the Vikings adding Smith and Madieu Williams. And then possibly trading for Rosenfels and signing Berrian? Not bad. |

Unfortunately Udeze has leukemia, so they need another end, and Smith would fit in nicely. If they can add a wideout who can catch and a half decent QB, imagine what Adrian Peterson could do? They played very well in the second half last year and I expect a dog fight between them and GB for that division. |
Re: Justin Smith
He's due to come to SF for his first visit. He informed the Vikings the 49ers where first on the list. I read it somewhere, can't remember link.

As SS alludes to he's a very solid all around player. You can't judge him on sacks alone. He'll never be a sack demon, but he plays the run well and plays with a high motor. |

Thats such a misleading statistic...Only coming in the game on 3rd and 16 is a lot different than having to tackle running backs every other down. How many sacks and tackles did the DT next to him have? Or the outside linebacker on his side? |
Re: Justin Smith
Not to mention he draws a double team on the majority of snaps. This is one guy I would love to see us go and get.

I never said the guy wasn't good. I understand he plays the run well and has a great motor, but has often been mentioned on this board as a pass-rush compliment to Andre Carter. I think we'd be better off drafting D-lineman than paying huge $$ for a guy like him. The FA market isn't that great this year. Guys are getting overpaid everywhere- $30M for Jerry Porter? $3M/yr for Cleo Lemon? $33M for Madieu Williams? I'm glad we're not a big player right now. |
Re: Justin Smith
I hear ya I don't want him either with the way these contracts are going again this year.
|
Re: Justin Smith
I think if we made him our only real free agent "splash," then that would free us up to do a lot of things in the draft. D-Line could be a priority to be handled in later rounds. In the first we could go CB, WR, or O-Line

$3 million a year for Todd Collins! ;) |

Yeah, but only $4M is guaranteed, which is what pretty much everyone expected him to get regardless of where he signed. Plus he's already one of our own. A sound move. |

Yea Ive got no problem with him as a backup, he doesnt have the arm strength in my opinion to be a starter, but anyways thats not point, i was just joking about the list of signings thats all. All we can do is joke, normally we would be watchign four or five press conferences by now... |

Re: Justin Smith
I've said it every post about FA's and I think it deserves saying here. Give me one FA this year and I want Justin Smith. Everything else can be addressed in the draft or June 1 cuts. I want this man more than I wanted April (name excluded to protect the innocent) in Middle School. Just one big dollar guy. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Justin Smith
My Justin Smith bandwagon seems to be getting rather crowded...regardless I think by Monday he'll be signed but not to us (Minnesota maybe?), and I'll have to begin a new bandwagon
|
Re: Justin Smith
espn radio reported he signed w/the 49ers. So he didn't sign w/us but he did w/the new Skins. The 49ers are definitely trying to sign everybody.
I think it was 6 yr./45mil w/20 guaranteed, but don't quote me on that. |
