Just heard on the Riggins show live Rock gets new deal. No link yet.

Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
That's great to hear Rock has been a huge part of our Special teams and it would have really hurt to lose him. Good move by the front office.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
Great move by Skins and Rock. Gotta say, I kinda like this year's FA approach. Also notice that Redskins Insider has NO info about the singing. C'mon JLa!
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
Damn JLC. Maybe Smootsmack was right, maybe you did lose a lot of your sources when Gibbs left town.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
i wonder what the monetary figures are
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
I don't know what the numbers are. Maybe its just me being used to the wild free agency spending ways of the past... But with all the salary cap space Danny and Vinny have cleared and with the ultraconservative FA so far, you think they could have something REALLY BIG in the works?
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
D'Angelo Hall!?
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
I doubt D Hall. He's another cancer like BL and Chad Johnson. I'm really starting to think they make a run at Larry Fitzgerald. ESPN just said that he and the Cardinals are worlds apart in contract talks. This is however a Rock Cartwright thread. You think Rock is our best option at KR? He WAS 6th in return yards last year, but NO TDs.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
Riggins show reports the deal is 3 years/3 Million.
If this is true another real good job by the FO! |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
D'Angelo Hall!?
Michael Smith on Sportscenter said that it's between us and Oakland for a D. Hall trade. |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
I'm glad about the Rock deal.
But I would be extremely happy if we were saving up to hire D'Angelo Hall. |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
Providing "The Rock" is happy, that's one less position we have to worry about. So far, we can't say the team is not making a conscious effort to resign their own players first before signing players from the outside.

Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
i heard that michael smith thing I dont wanna give up a number one for him

Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins.
JLC is a little late on this one, but he was on Comcast......
Redskins Insider Posted at 7:19 PM ET, 03/ 7/2008 Rock Stays From Jason Reid: Return specialist Rock Cartwright is back. Sorry it took me so long to get this to you guys but I was on Comcast SportsNet's "Washington Post Live" and couldn't check my voicemail. Vinny Cerrato, executive vice president of football operations, called to say that the team reached an agreement with Rock. Terms were not released, but a team source said Rock received a three-year, $3.35-million deal that includes $500,000 in guaranteed money. Rock was believed to be seeking a guarantee of $2 million, but it appears those dollars just weren't out there for him. "The coaches are all real happy Rock is back," Cerrato said. "You always want to keep your leaders on the team." |

Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
Good deal. I'd have given him a mil just to be nice. Reduce the salaries and make the deal the same amount. He isn't going anywhere for 3 years anyway plus it'd give him some more security.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
If anyone deserved a nice pay increase it's Rock. $3 years, $3M isn't too shabby for a former 7th round pick.

How much of an increase did he receive? Isn't the vet min around $800'000? I'm glade he is back but I feel sorry that he could not even find a team that had an interest in him. I guess he must have to have mixed emotions about the deal. |

I believe he made $680,000 last season |

Not sure about the exact dollar amount increase, not much. And no where near what he was looking for in the FA market. I would have to think with no interest in him elsewhere, he is probably relieved to still have a good gig with the Skins, with a reasonable contract. I'm glad he kind of came back to earth a bit, great KR specialist, special teamer. I'm glad they came to terms. Good move on both sides. |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
Awesome, I was hoping theyd do this, great move!
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
good value too. good move.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
A top of the line special teams player, a solid and consistent kick returner, a great locker room influence, and a guy who ensures we adequately go 3-deep at RB.
I'm glad we got this done, and he got a chunk of change out of it. Nice. |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
WELCOME BACK, oh that's right you never left, good move by the SKINS
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
Good job Vinny. Now just don't go chasing selfish cancer's like D. Hall.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
great move. Gotta wonder if he got any interest at all from others or just no interest in a bigger contract.
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
It wasnt too long ago that we were cutting our returners and signing guys for 30 million to return balls...3 million as a returner is much better. The draft is a great place to get returners, but we know what we get with rock, and hes plays with a lot of heart

This quote is from Rock yesterday March 6, in his interview on Redskin.com, sounded to me at the time when I read the article he was getting anxious to get something done. I'm real glad it worked out. Rock has turned into a solid ball player and team leader. It would be nice to see him finish his career hopefully as a Redskin. Cartwright Plays 'Waiting Game' "I think Drew has talked to a couple teams, but no one has really [offered] anything, so for now we're waiting to see what happens," Cartwright said. "I know the market is really slow right now. We're just going to play it by ear and see what happens." Asked if he enjoyed the free agency process, Cartwright admitted that it was "a little frustrating" to have to watch and wait. "I would have hoped something would have happened by now, but it hasn't," he said. "It's part of the business. I'm sure something will happen, hopefully soon. "The big-name [free agents] go high, so you just sit back and play the waiting game." Cartwright reiterated that he would like to stay with the Redskins. "I would love to finish my career as a Washington Redskin, but ultimately that's not up to me," he said. "I love the organization, I love the fans and I would love to be here." |

I agree. I want Rock here and happy. He does a decent job on returns and is a very strong teams player. He brigs a bit of toughness as a 3rd RB and is liked by all. He is better all day long than some fast tiny return guy who doesn't do a damn thing other than return. Other than Hester, a returner just has to be able to contribute somewhere else. And Hester only gets a pass because he so far and away better than anyone else and such a game changer. |

From: Redskins, Cartwright Agree To a Three-Year Contract - washingtonpost.com
"Under the terms of his new deal, Cartwright, a six-year veteran, will receive a $300,000 signing bonus with a base salary of $605,000 in 2008 -- the minimum for a player with six years in the league. He will receive a $200,000 roster bonus and a $745,000 salary in 2009 and a $1.5 million salary in 2010." I'll post a cap update in the salary cap forum. |

Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
So it's essentially a 2 year contract w/ a (probably convertable) roster bonus.
W/out converting the roster bonus into a signing bonus: He counts 100K in 2010 if cut pre-year 3 - If on the roster he counts 1.6M. (If not converted he counts 945K in year 2) Converting the roster bonus into a signing bonus: He counts 200K in 2010 if cut pre-year 3 - If on the roster, he counts 1.7M. (If converted he only counts 845K in year 2) The convertible roster bonus is one of those really useful tools the Skins use in manipulating contracts to move cap hits around (e.g. if we have good cap numbers next year, then they probably won't convert Rocky's roster bonus. If a little tight, then they convert it). |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
Glad they hooked him up! can't wait to see the Rock back in action!
|
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
I feel kinda bad for him, he probably was expecting some interest in the open market but there weren't any teams interested in him, so he decided to just take what was out there and that was the contract with the Redskins. I'dve given him a mil signing bonus just because he's a leader on this team and he gives it his all, and he's well deserving of it. That said though, we did get a bargain from the Redskins point of view.

I can't see him making that 3rd year salary. |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
great news and like i,ve been saying all along ..take care of your own people and this is how you do it ...
great job to the front office.. |
Re: Rock gets new deal with Skins (3 yrs, $3.35M)
I just we had a damn GM - then we wouldn't have so grossly overpaid for a solid back-up and valuable team player. <sarcasm font off>
