How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
First of all, I have no idea if the Raiders are even putting Fabian Washington on the trading block. This scenario is purely hypothetical at this point. Assuming they did, what would you be willing to offer (playing the Cerrato role) in compensation for a 4th year CB at age 25 with first round skills who just may be coming into his own?
I might be willing to deal the 3rd rounder for this guy, assuming we receive the compensatory 3rd round pick. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I'd rather draft our own DB personally. Plus I think he's got domestic battery charges hanging over him. Who know what will happen with that (both in the court of law and the court of Goodell)
|
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I definately would not want to find myself in a bidding war for his services. His skill set is not a particularly hard one to find. I just think, at this point, he's the best CB who can be had at a reasonable price.
I'd be cool with drafting our own DB also, so long as we get our guy. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I don't know much about Washington, but I do know that the Raiders are talking about trading for Deangelo Hall. It doesn't seem like they'd trade an early 2nd round pick for Hall if they were happy with Washington.

Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
No more than a 5th. No doubt he is talented, but not something to go nuts over.

Well, it's the Raiders we're talking about. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I'd rather get two of the Falcons 2nd round picks, give them our first round pick. I know it's not likely but 3 picks in the 2nd round would be nice.

you'd lose out on any potential DE starter and probably any potential CB starter (though you could get a good nickel guy). |

I have faith in second round corners thanks to guys like Rasheen Mathis and Fred Smoot. Personally I love SmootSmacks idea of setting ourselves up with three second round picks. If anything I think the team could make use of those picks and we could come away from this draft with 5 starters and to me the DE's in this draft aren't that spectacular after Long, Harvey, and Gholston. Though I would like to see the Skins take a chance on Lawrence Jackson. The guy had 10.5 sacks last year at LE in an elite offensive conference. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
i don't want him. but, hypothetically, i wouldn't give more then a 4th or 5th. if Hall is only worth a #2, Washington is no where near that caliber of talent
|
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
a 3rd rounder
|
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I wouldn't waste a pick on Fabian. I'd be willing to toss a mediocre contract his way, but if it requires a trade it isn't worth it for a player like Washington. Ask any Raiders fan, they'll practically give him to you.
|
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I would give a sixth rounder for him, but nothing more.

Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
5th round pick.
He is just a fast guy, Nothing else. Although, If he played taylor jacobs everyweek, He would be a hall of famer. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
These are the type of players we need to stop trading for... these suspect players..
The only way we should let go of our picks is if the player is a STUD, like CJ, or Roy Williams, and so on. Imagine the player we could have in this 4th round if we didnt give up that pick for duckett. Imagine all the players we missed out on last year becasue of Lloyd. It goes on... and we need to stop it, the only way we should take chances on players like this, is when they hit the FA market. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
That's like someone giving us a 2nd or 3rd rounder for cartrwright,
you see his potential, and he makes plays at the times he plays, but that doesnt mean he's going to be a starter, and thats hopefully what we have finally learned. College players are so good coming out of college nowadays, theres no need to trade for mediocore talent in hopes they will prosper. Cus the fact is, your not only giving up a potential future star on your team, but you are also paying out the ass for a Vet contract. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I'd wouldn't give up anything for Washington. I don't think corner is a pressing need for us.

I think it may be more of a need down the line than this year, but I think we should take advantage of a deep draft class at that positioin this year. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I think I'm going to have to post this a million times before people start thinking about it but in todays NFL safetys are the new corners. Look the Broncos had Champ Bailey AND Dre Bly last year, yet their pass Defense was among the worst in the league. If any of you think we can do better then that combo, then be my guest but topping the Champ Bailey factor isn't easy.
On the other hand the Colts Defense was horrible until Bob Sanders, a FS, came back and made the Colts one of the best defensive teams in the playoffs back in 2006. Hell our pass defense was way better then the Broncos and we had great play at Safety all through last year, and it figures to get better with Landry and Doughty no longer being rookies. Don't get me wrong we had great corner play to, but I'm willing to bet that the safetys deserve more credit for the pass defense. |

However I believe that secondary play and a strong pass rush go hand and hand. I think one of the reasons Denver had a bad pass defense was that they had no pass rush what so ever. If you put Denver's corners on the NYG you might have the best defense in the NFL. |

I definitely agree. With Rogers coming off a knee injury and Springs on his last legs we should definitely be looking to the future. CB is a pretty big need in my opinion. |

Wow, really? Even with Rogers coming off a serious injury and an aging Springs? |

Yeah. I know it's kind of contradictory with the thread I started about where can we most afford to go with the status quo this upcoming season. Because on the one hand, I think (even with Rogers' injury) we can probably get by in 2008 at the DB position, but this just seems like a very good year to draft a DB. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I think this is a great year to draft a cornerback too, I agree that we do need help at cornerback because of Roger's injury and the fact that Springs is getting older. I wouldn't mind trading for him but I'd only give up a 5th or a 6th for him, he ain't done anything in this league and we could make him into a good corner but he hasn't shown anyone that he's worth more than a 5th at best.

I agree Safeties are more important overall with so many teams running versions of the Cover 2. However, if Blache stays with the Cover-1 scheme we used towards the end of last year, as long as Landry is healthy we are fine at S. CBs who can play man are of HUGE importance for us. With Springs age/injury issues and Rogers injury we need to draft a CB no later than our 2nd pick, wherever that may be. If our CBs can't cover we will have to go to a different scheme (Cover 2 probably, and that didn't work so well last year). |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
a couple of dimes, nothing more.
Wow, really?
Even with Rogers coming off a serious injury and an aging Springs?
Springs looks like he can play at a high level for 2-3 more years. The guy REALLY takes care of himself. People think just cause a guy is older he can't play anymore. It's like once you hit a certain age your value goes down. There are still a lot players in their 30's that are the best at their positions. Also Rogers seems to think that he's going to be ready for week one. And even if he isn't we've got Smoot and Leigh Torrnece. Torrence played in all 16 games and IMO played very well at the 3rd corner. So I think we're OK even with Springs' age and Rogers injury situation. We certainly don't need to add someone like Washington when the O-line and DE positions needs help. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
I don't doubt that Springs can still play but his history of not being able to stay healthy is a bit of a concern to me. Smoot seems to always be banged up too.

He's not that bad, the only reason he played so bad was just like what's been happening in Baltimore, they have Chris Mcallister on one side and Samari Rolle on the other, they just keep throwing toward Samari Rolle and it makes him look bad even though he was a pretty good corner, in Oakland they have Nnamdi Asomugha on one side, and Fabian on the other, teams tend to throw more often to Fabian's side because they know it is risky throwing near Nnamdi. |
Re: How Much would You Give for Fabian Washington?
^^ i dot know about that.... THey will throw towards what receiver is open, and if that is usually on washingtons side, that's not too good.
