Portis or Westbrook?
Both are different types of backs who both are the backbones of their teams. Would you rather have Portis or Westbrook? If you really want, add Marion Barber. Personally, I'd kill to have Westbrook as a skin. Close, but westbrook would be a little better, especially with the WC offense.

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
I love Portis, but I'd rather have Westbrook.

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Id rather have Portis. Portis is the better blocker, the better runner, and the better red zone threat. The only thing I think Westbrook does better is catch. I feel like Portis ran behind a worse line than Westbrook did last year, and if everyone is healthy on our O-line this year, I think Portis will have the better season. It would be cool having Westbrook be a skin though cause he went to high school in this area (I think Dematha in moco)

With the west coast offense, you may agree that westbrooks catching would be better for us. |

then lets put santana moss at running back. Running Backs first priority is to run, 2nd is to catch, lets keep our priorities straight. Besides, Portis is pretty good catching the ball out of the backfield. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
When Westbrook goes down, the Eagles go down. When Clinton goes down, we don't necessarily. Westbrook is far more well rounded. Clinton may have the edge in agility. And CP definitely is a better blocker.
|
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Portis. As good as westbrook is, he is not the everydown between the tackles november back CP is. If the Iggles could have run the ball they would have won and SB or two.....besides if we had west brook ....we would be the iggles =/
Thou shall not covet thy divisional rival's players.
That's just one of the ten Red Commandments.
Amen to that. Back in the day, would you take Dorsett over Riggins? Not a chance. Brian Westbrook is a D.C. native and a damn good player though. If we had him, we wouldn't need to use his brother in preparation for the Eagles. It would also be cool to have another pair of brothers after having Nic and Chris Clemons, but I'm taking Clinton Portis. If the talent-level is close, I'm taking the guy who's already a Redskin. Portis is going to have a huge season in 2008. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
It would be, easily Westbrook in the past couple of years but if all indications are correct on how we are going to use Portis in the new offense, I think that I will have to go with Portis this coming season.
|
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
I would rather have Portis just based off his thursday pre - game interviews. Also Westbrook is an Eagle, I can't just start pretending to like him for the sake of this board.
|
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
I don't think there's any question Westbrook has had the more accomplished career. I still love having Portis on our team though and don't think we need to compare him to other running backs who may or may not be better. He is one of the core personalities of the Gibbs II Redskins, and I expect he will have quite a role to play in the Zorn era as well.

Has he really though? Westbrook has two 1000 yard seasons, Portis has five. Portis has him beat in just about every rushing category there is. Westbrook has him beat when it comes to receptions, but I don't think that makes him more accomplished as a result. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Portis without a doubt. Westbrook can be dangerous but he's a poorman's Marshall Faulk. Portis is well on his way to Canton if he keeps playing like he has been. He's a true running back that can grind it for 4 quarters.

I have to disagree, there is a big question as to who has had the more accomplished career. Portis has had the more accomplished career and I am not looking at him through Redskins colored glasses. Facts alone, Portis has 1411 total yards more than Westbrook, Portis has 17 more total touchdowns than Westbrook, and Portis has 142 less catches than Westbrook let's see what Portis would do if he had that many oppertunities to catch the ball. Why is everyone all over Westbrook? I don't think that he is all that great, IMO, he gets lucky alot of times. I mean just look at Westbrook's stats compared to Portis stats. Brian Westbrook Clinton Portis Hopfully after looking at the stats most will see that we have one of the best backs in our division, he is all heart in the way he runs, blocks, and even catches out of the backfeild. And when you are looking at the stats don't forget to look at the first 2 seasons in the league where he averaged 5.5yards a carry in the WCO system... |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Portis is better. Id take him. I like westbrook, but just like previously mentioned, when he goes down, so do the eagles. Portis blocks ten times better as well. The only thing I envy of Westbrook is his ability to sell the draw, and the screen. No one, and I think there will be no contest here, no one runs the draw or the RB screen in the NFL like westbrook. He burned us quite a few times with it last year. Thats just one aspect though and I think we can manage to compensate for that.

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
Oh, and he had 4 TD's and 5 fumbles, and 4 of those were fumbles lost. Thats a Helluva horse you got there. With a back like him who needs a run defense.

Re: Portis or Westbrook?
How about we get this back on track? Yes, the Giants won the SB - well done. None of us want Jacobs, so enjoy him.
Between CP and Westbrook, I'd take CP. He's younger and I think he's a better all-around back. He may never get as many total yards as Westbrook, but when you add the blocking and north/south running, that tips the scales for me. |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
I would take Portis, he is a better all-around back. Portis justhas been being used differently then he was in Denver. Put his Denver stats against Westbrooks and then ask who would you have. Now that we wont have the jumbo 3 tight end sets look for Portis to return to his Denver stats more yards less carries.

give me a true horse like Brandon Jacobs anyday
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Jacobs hurt alot this year? And 2nd The last time the Redskins played the Giants what happened? and 3 Why would you bring up Brandon Jacobs when he wasnt even being discussed in the thread? Finally since when is Brandon Jacobs a true horse? He's more fragile than Portis or Westbrook so what the hell are you talking about? NEXT! (What is the deal with that too?) |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
I predict Clinton Portis will have a big year because hes going back to a West Coast system like he had in Denver. HE'S A SYSTEM BACK!!!

give me a true horse like Brandon Jacobs anyday
sigh... Your football IQ is not very high if you think Brandon Jacobs is better than Westbrook and Portis. He may have a ring so congrats on that. But you can thank Strahan, Tuck, Osi and Eli for that ring. Also how can you call Jacobs a horse when he was losing carries to a late round draft pick and isn't even on the field at the end of the games???? Your comments make no sense what so ever. NEXT. |

NEXT!
I'm glad he's your boy. I hope his poster is on your wall. I hope you have numerous Brandon Jacobs jersey's. But make some sense to what you saying. If you look at Jacobs production vs. Portis and Westbrook it's not even in the same ballpark. Jacobs is not an everydown NFL RB. He's a solid player. Nothing more, nothing less. NEXT! |
Re: Portis or Westbrook?
As great as Westbrook is, I still have to take Clinton Portis. Westbrook is clearly the better receiver, and I think he's tougher to tackle in open space. But Portis is a better interior runner, and a FAR better blocker.

Does a system back put up the numbers that Portis has? No!!! A system back goes to the Lions or the Ravens and becomes a nobody and barely make the team. Portis never had his job in question when he came here even with Ladell Betts showing what he can do, Portis still came out on top and proved that he is just a Running back not a system back... PERIOD!! |
