Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

I was thinking there has to be a thread around here on this topic somewhere, so excuse me if it is. Well, not really.

I happen to think there's a big difference between canned beer, bottled and my preference, beer on tap. Yumm!

For instance, I'm a big Yuengling drinker but for the life of me I can't stand it in a bottle; it tastes totally different. Heineken on the other hand, I prefer in the bottle not tap. Oh, and at the ballpark the old platstic red cup is mandatory. I just loving spilling shit on folks and pretending I was too drunk to really notice.

I guess the real question is is this shit all in my head? Is a Heineken a Heineken and Bud a Bud? Does it all taste the same no matter what?

Will one of you ex-bartenders please weigh in on this matter.

Oh there's a huge difference.

First, there is virtually no circumstance in which beer tastes better out of a can. It just doesn't exist.

As for bottles vs tap, I prefer the bottle. I like how when you tip it up and get a glug glug, it releases the carbonation in your mouth, so the bubbles distribute the flavor all over your tongue. Enhances the beer experience.

But if I'm looking to get tanked, out of the tap is always much smoother going down!

Soooo thirsty right now

Somewhat on topic, I was at Monk's Cafe in Philly on Saturday night. They got some good beer there. Really good

I like to buy those Heineken mini kegs and I can tell you that draft is so much better. I love Heineken in a bottle, but the mini keg just blows it away.

I wish Guinness would make a mini keg.

Re: Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

Tap --> Bottle --> Can

The only time I drink out of a can is playing beer-pong. Tap just tastes great. Definitely distinct flavors between tap and bottle. Smithwicks out of the tap is amazing, out of the bottle it's solid.

However, nothing like a good ol' IC in an aluminum bottle!

Re: Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

I drink most of my beer out of bottles. The only thing I prefer out of a can is Guinness, and then its poured into a glass... but the widget in the can makes the beer creamier. I've been tearing up some guinness lately... topping off a Hoegaarden, or other wheat beer, or by itself. its an amazing beer.

As far as draft goes, Killians is also pretty good on tap, if you can find it... kinda like smithwicks... an irish red.

From a tap into a frosty mug or a bottle into a frosty mug.

Bear tastes mor elike its intended to out of a bottle, nice and cold :). Tap > Can but mm the flavor of a bottle is hard to beat.

See I've had the mini keg, I wasn't all that impressed. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't like out of bottle either. Besides I think I screwed it up trying to put the tap thingy on the end.

It tastes best if you polish off the whole thing.

I prefer beer out of a bottle, then a can, then the tap. But when your drinking 12+ as long as the 1st 3 or 4 are out of a bottle it really doesnt matter how the rest are contained.
Meet up with me in Canton and lets have some together.

For some reason most keg beer gives me a raging headache...

I have a full kegger and love the tap beer out of there. Usually a little Dos Equis or some Miller Lite. If I can't have the tap, then its preferred choice #2 and the bottle.

I second that! why is that?

Bottle is the best!

I can't say I've ever had beer out of a keg and I'm a college student. I like the bottle. Canned beer is okay with me too. I'm no beer expert... this coming from the chick that actually likes Milwaukee's Best (Apparently thats a shitty beer?)

Re: Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

I guess I prefer bottle-->tap---can but I usually don't complain about receiving beer in any type of delivery vessel. I will shamefully admit that I drank four simple Bud Light cans last night over a 3 hour period and woke up with a killer hangover. I have yet to look at myself in the mirror...

Are you kidding? In college and never drank off a keg of beer? Is it some sort of online institution, say the University of Phoenix or something? Strange, very very strange. I thought that was a mandatory thing at most schools.

Kegs and college go together like classes and college. I mean c'mon, you can't have one without the other, right?

Maybe it's the CO2 they use as "propulsion" for the taps? I don't know, but it gives me a bad hangover too.

I definitely prefer bottle, but I like draft too. Cans, not so much.

yes that is shitty beer... but you're in college and shitty beer is a right of passage for college age kids and rednecks around the country. I stopped drinking beer just to get trashed and really enjoy having 2 beers in the evening to sort of unwind... kinda like an anti-coffee... I still get trashed from time to time, mind you, but the taste of a beer is much more important to me than it used to be.

I hear that. I still like to have 14 miller lite bottles in one sitting from time to time, but usually I like to just sip on a few Sierra Nevada pale ales or Amstel Lights.

I like cans. If you cut a hole on the opposite side of the pour hole you can really slug em down quick. Plus I like to crush them against my head after.

Re: Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

I like my beer out of a bottle or tap. Not a big fan of cans, but won't turn it down if only thing available.

Prefer a dark beer. When make beer usually make a red or a bock. I enjoy trying different beers when the wife and I are out. Will normally order a draft first.

Re: Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

The only beer that is can-preferred over bottles is Guinness draft...

For the most part, Draft > Bottle > Can. I won't say keg because I actually prefer something along the lines of Miller Lite or Bud out of the bottle before the keg. Lighter beers like that almost all taste the same out of the keg. To me at least...

Re: Beer: Can, Bottle or Tap?

Like others have said, only beer that's good out of the can is Guiness. Anything else has that metallic "tinny" taste that I can't stand. I've always preferred bottle but lately tap'd has been growing on me.

As an aside, last august I had the chance to go to Munich for my honeymoon and I took every brewery tour I could sign up for. An amazing time. Wheat beer has been my thing ever since.

The Uni of Phoenix is ONLY online. There is no actual campus, and on that note the Uni of Phoenix stadium where the SuperBowl was played-well the Uni of Phoenix bought the rights to it just like Fedex did here. Theres no school and no team(Uni of Phoenix wise) that plays there.

I did get to go to Ireland and more specifically to the Guinness brewery in Dublin. It was great. The 360 degree view of Dublin is awesome from the top of the brewery check it out
