Democratic Candidate Bowls a 37

Words matter to Barack Obama. But spares and strikes don't. That's the only thing you can conclude after Obama's disastrous game in Pennsylvania. The man who could be president bowled a 37. In 10 frames. Quick ClayNation math tells us that's an average of a paltry 3.7 pins per frame. Obama's bowling score of 37 is less than the number of Presidents we've had -- 43. Unacceptable.
A 37? A lousy 37? This guy wants to be the next President, yet he can't bowl Forrest Gump's IQ?!?!?!
[yt]-afpPb2NT2I[/yt]

However, what I got out of this article was 13 sports equivalents to bowling a 37:
1. Showing up for a baseball game, being sent to the outfield, picking up a rolling baseball and throwing it underhanded back to the infield.
2. Shooting a 298 during a leisurely 18 holes of golf
3. Insisting on wearing arm floaties for the start of a triathlon
4. Being unable to hit a single tennis ball back over the net to your opponent
5. Dribbling a basketball with both hands while intently staring at the ground as soon as the ball is passed to you
6. Not being strong enough to have a dart reach the board at a bar. Then, putting all your weight behind the dart toss, and hitting a bespectacled man at the adjoining booth in the left earlobe
7. Pinning yourself in the weight room while bench-pressing only the bar
8. Playing croquet
9. Starting the Tour de France with training wheels
10. Driving the Indy 500 without ever shifting out of first gear
11. Showing up for a football game in the state of Alabama carrying a soccer ball
12. Boxing with your thumb inside your fist
13. Each time someone sets the volleyball for you, shrieking and running in the other direction with your hands on top of your head

That's pretty hilarious.

Does anyone else get annoyed at seeing politicians doing stuff like this in a shirt and tie? Can't they loosen up just a little? I mean c'mon you're bowling dude, take off the tie at least.

Re: Democratic Candidate Bowls a 37

Exactly. Loosen up a bit. I'd love to see a candidate show up in a hawaiian shirt with sunglasses that have these on them:

I want to go bowling with Obama -- I might win.

Just curious, why is the title "Democratic Candidate" why isn't it just "Obama Bowls a 37"

Pretty funny nonetheless though

I get that it is a joke (except all the major 'news' networks picked it up too), but all I can say is ... seriously? Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd rather have the type of guy who edited the Harvard Law Review as Pres then the guy eating nachos at the bowling ally. Plus, I watch football ... was captain of the football team in high school, played some in college ... and I never go bowling. I might bowl a 37, I don't even know what that number means. I guess this is what happens when you have 6 weeks between primaries and 24-hours of space to fill on CNN.

After learning Barack had bowled a 37, Hillary challenged Barack to a bowling contest - winner take all.

Not sure really. I could have gone with the title of the article I quoted...

I also could have said "Illinois Senator Bowls Weight of Toddler" or "You'll never guess who bowled a 37" or "Obama Bowls a 37, gets USBC Membership revoked".

I guess after the 120+ post of why it is either appropriate or not appropriate to boo at a baseball game, I wanted to add another element of political skewing to the threshold.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd rather have the type of guy who edited the Harvard Law Review as Pres then the guy eating nachos at the bowling ally.
As would I. However, I'd like to see that said guy who edited the Harvard Law Review can unwind and relate to the common man as well. I mean, what if Obama had gotten ketchup or mustard on his tie? Would we not hear the end of that on CNN or Fox News?

Funny with all the news about him and his Preacher all we see about him here is his bowling score. I would have thought that someone would have started thread about his Preacher but I guess when it comes Obama things that may matter just don't seem to matter.

If you want to talk about the whole Obama preacher deal just start up a thread. I don't see why posting this about his bowling score means that we are avoiding the Wright issue.

I don't think it's a conspiracy. Moreover, it's no secret that the majority of people who post in political threads tend to be conservative. At worst, the split between conservatives and liberals in these threads is 50-50. On top of all that, Obama is pretty popular, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that people aren't jumping on his nuts when "scandal" hits.

Re: Democratic Candidate Bowls a 37

A 37 is pretty sad. Even if you bowl mostly open frames, you stand a good chance of at least making a 70.

My mom, who's 66 years old and rarely bowls, scored a 140 the last time we went. My sweet little christian mother was talking smack to everyone the whole time, which I found hilarious.

onlydarksets 04-03-2008 09:08 PM

Re: Democratic Candidate Bowls a 37

I'm pretty sure I could break 37 if you blindfolded me and made me spin till I was dizzy before each frame.

Warpath 04-03-2008 09:20 PM

He only bowled 7 frames. He was all over at least 40. On the Wii Im in the 220s in real life although I havent been bowling in at least 10 years Im in the 90s-100s.

To be fair, I used to go bowling up until about age 11, and my scores were usually around 70-90 lolol.

And yes, like AngrySSG said, I can't vote for a guy to run this country if he isn't a good bowler.

was going to start a thread, but figured i would just post this here. this past Monday i went to see Obama in town. right now im undecided, but the man gives one helluva speech. to see him in person is very energizing. got to talking to some of the people, and the one quality i find admirable in John McCain, is probably on of the biggest reasons alot of republicans don't like him. he is able to work across party lines. about 2 weeks ago i went and saw Hilliary, and she is so much better live. her personality doesn't translate well on t.v. not sure how my small home town managed to get both of the big name Dem's here

If you're really that bad at it don't try, especially in front of cameras. Truth be told I don't know how to bowl for shit but I'm sure after couple of practices I can bowl a 37 too :)

Do you ever get tired of whining? If you have an issue you would like to discuss you're one click away. Speaking for myself I almost create a Wright thread. I had it all typed out and ready to post but then I noticed there were other heated discussion going on. I didn't post it because I didn't want to distract from those other discussions. Yeah I live between Dmek and the city. I'm in the burbs right outside the city, from my house it's about 5 miles to city limits, and then from there another 5 to center city. So 10 miles from center city (me good at math).

I'm actually, and not to start a political debate here, working on Obama's campaign, so Philly is the next stop for me. If I'm up there through the weekend, I might hit one of you guys up.

This seems like as good of a place as any, here we go. I am a registered independent who usually votes Republican

At first I liked McCane, that was until I heard of his economic policies. I am not so sure that I want to go through another tenure of Bush.

I have always been against Hillary because she had raised more than any other candidate for her campaign. In my eyes she owes alot of favors if elected.

I was strongly considering Obama over everyone else. My regression is due to him raising even more money than Hillary and the whole Wright thing. Very good speach following Wright though.

In all honesty, right now, I would hate for any of these candidates to recieve my vote. There has got to be another candidate out there to run as an independent and fast. Sadly there is none. My candidate does not exist. Without going into a full essay document I cannot explain why, but none of these guys are even close.

What to do? If I had to choose the lesser of 3 evils, I would say Hillary, but I seriously prefer Obama over her, but I like McCain more than Obamma. Damn it I'm confused!

I cannot and refuse to let my country down that way. If only the 3 of them could combine and make a Super President, I would be sold. In all honesty I think that I am going to play a part in history repeating itself. Blacks were granted suffrage before Women were, so I might be voting for Obama.

I think you have me all figured out :) Seriously though, what irked me was that you expect others start a thread about Obama's pastor when you yourself can take matters into your own hands.
