Favre to unRETIRE?
You know I heard last week that even though Favre announced his retirement in a tearful press conference he has not yet filed his retirement papers with the NFL. I thought it was just simple procrastination on the part of Brett Favre......then I find this on the blog>>>>>
Favre not finished? 3:51 PM Thu, Apr 03, 2008 | Permalink | Yahoo! Buzz Albert Breer E-mail News tips You knew it was coming ... So here it is: Brett Favre, less than a month removed from having retired, is contemplating a comeback. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times has the story. According to NFL sources, Favre's agent has quietly inquired with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL most valuable player. Favre, 38, has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or the players' union, although that's neither required nor irrevocable. It's also not uncommon for players to delay in doing so, particularly if they are not in immediate need of their pension money. Farmer's sources say that the lack of a real run at Randy Moss contributed to Favre's retirement. Where could Favre go? Minnesota would seem to be a perfect fit, but Green Bay would never trade him there. The loaded up Jets perhaps? Or Baltimore? See, saying this is all well and good. Finding a better situation than Green Bay's might be a little tougher for Mr. Favre.
Brett Favre retired? Maybe not - Los Angeles Times |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
What an ass!!! The only team in the NFL, that has a chance of winning a Super Bowl, with the addition of Farve,is Greenbay.
|
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
If thats true then it's stupid on Farves part. Personally I think it go a long way towards straining his relationship with Green Bay and it may even get to the point where Green Bay fans start saying stuff they'll later regret like "Sal Palantonio was right."
|
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I think it's pure BS....I think it's the media just trying to stir things up since he hasn't filed his papers. Do you really think he would play for anyone else??? Come on....
|
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
This link says that his agent denied Favre making a comeback.

Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I believe that some people are speculating that Favre may even come back to the Packers (explaining why the Packers vs Vikings is the MNF opener), just like some people are speculating that the Bears will finalize a trade for McNabb soon (explaining why the Bears are kicking off NBC's Sunday Night coverage in '08).
I think the latter is more likely...but it is interesting that the Packers have yet to sign any backup QB (as far as I know). |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
Who knows about this one? If I had to guess I would say the chances of him coming back are slim to none and slim just left town.
But only Favre really knows at this point. But whats going on between his ears is anyones guess. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
Just cause the agent calls about trade possibilities, doesn't mean Favre himself is interested.
|
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I would welcome Favre back. He is human and I seriously doubt the Packers fans will hold it against him.

Really??? You sure about that? What if Gibbs came back and coached for say the Giants? |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I think Stuck meant if Favre came back to to the Packers, the Packers' fans would forgive him for "faking" his retirement.
That said, the dude needs to stay retired. I'm sure he could have 2 more decent seasons, but he needs to know when to hang up the cleats. Of course, the great ones rarely do. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
Not happening.
If Favre sits this year out, and then decides at age 40 to play one more season...then although far-fetched, it is conceivable. But there's a 0% chance Favre plays anywhere this season. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I think he has wanted for some time to play for another team, and I hope he gets his wish. The Green Bay management didn't want to be crucified by the fans for trading him, and Favre couldn't say he wanted to play elsewhere, but at this point maybe he will have a chance to play somewhere else and get reenergized by new surroundings, new fans, and a new team.
I wish him the best. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I don't think Philadelphia is trading McNabb. Kolb is the future, but Andy Reid I know would be totally comfortable letting him sit 3-4 seasons on the bench before moving McNabb.
On the same note, if the Bears offered their first round pick PLUS more, or just a ridiculous deal for a 31 year old QB, I think Philadelphia is no longer tied to McNabb beyond impossibility of a trade. But it would have to be a deal that the Bears would clearly lose, even if McNabb had his best season in 4 years. Since that isn't happening, McNabb will be Philly's QB in 2008, and probably 2009 also. After that, he's probably no longer the best QB on his own roster, so at age 33, he could be released. |

Favre's not coming back.

hey giantone, you guys need a qback more then we do:(
|
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
No chance of it happening. Favre's agent is completely dismissing the idea.
What is this, an extended April Fool's Day? |

I don't know that we can say that anymore... Eli looked pretty damn good in the playoffs. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
Thinking about it I doubt that Favre returns. Honestly, his legacy is written.
But if it were true, of course his agent is going to publically deny the inquiries. If he admitted it, then he admits that any team he has spoken to was involved in tampering since Green Bay owns the rights to Favre and he does not have the teams permission to speak to other teams. Agents cannot "inquire" on behalf of thier client without the teams permission. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
Brett Favre will make a comeback the day I reenlist. Hint: I aint reenlisting.

I love the last line of that article:
Favre, 38, has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or players’ union.
Just in case he is trying to pull a fast one, they can say "We told you so!" |

I am by no means agreeing with the comment that you need a QB more than we do, however, I do recall you wanting Eli's head on a platter this year. So he makes a good run and helps take the Giants to a Super Bowl win and all is forgiven? How can a man have a punched ticket out of town, then be a hero in the same season? |

Look at the Viking game from last year, then look t the last 4 games he played.................that's how.He and Coughlin get a by from me for this year!:)AND there ain't one Skins fan out there that would'nt say the same thing had Campbell and the Skins done the same. |

Lol, while I agree with the human part, I doubt that the Green and gold faithful would let it slide. They'd eventually forgive him, but at first it would probably be ugly. |
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
I heard a rumor he was just going to become a QB coach although I have no source and was just some guy in my dorm, so its prolly false.

Favre and Campbell running the offense. Could be worse...

Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
i don't think kolb is all that good. i also don't think favre's un-retiring.
|
Re: Favre to unRETIRE?
Simply put, not going to happen. But, I would support it if he did. Farve can still lead the Packers, and he can do it effectivly.

After whatever happens to McNabb, Kevin Kolb will be a quality started for the Eagles, he has a good arm, can scramble if needed, and is pretty accurate, he will most likely end up replacing McNabb. |

LOL. Only on my All Madden team! not at all possible or possible in this universe, but just think how much that would help JC. Zorn was a great QB coach in Seattle, but does anyone else find it more than a coinsidence that Hasselbeck, who was Favre's backup, took his team to a Super Bowl, and Brunell, who was also Favre's backup, took the Jags to a AFC championship? I think Aaron Rodgers is going to be alot better than people think. |
