Leodis McKelvin would be great, but he'll probably go in the top-10 to New England to replace Asante Samuel.

Well the Redskins like aranging odd pre-draft visits. If you remember last year they brought in JaMarcus Russel for a pre-draft visit. And as you can see the Redskins have already brought in Chad Henne who should be there at 21 but will probably be gone at 52. And if anything they probably wouldn't use the 52nd selection on him.

Also heres a list of the local prospects that showed up for the Redskins pro-day. If I had to guess I'd say that the Skin's probably end up signing Lance ball as an UDFA. Was also glad to see Rudolph Hardie (DE Howard) and Joey Haynos (TE Maryland) on the list. At the same time looks like Andrew Crummey is still recovering from the East/West shrine game and for some reason Dre Moore (DT Maryland) didn't show up.

Also as far as Owen Schmitt is concerned, well I wonder if it's possible that they would prefer a more versitle FB in Jacob Hester, since Hester has the ability to make catches out of the backfield.

We could potentially get Bowman in the 4th (really comp 3rd) or 5th round. And if he recovers from his knee injury (probably won't happen until 2009) he will an absolute steal for us.

I keep on hearing that Bowman is a potential 1st round talent that will probably go in the 6th or 7th. If anything he seems like the only corner that could make an impact after the early third. However judging from the Redskins draft history I would count on them taking him in the 5th, especially if for some reason they don't take a CB in the second, which
right now seems to be their aim with the 52nd pick.

Another indicator of Flowers' early departure was on his Facebook profile in the days before the Orange Bowl.

I like him already:

I neutral him now.

Dirtbag - was Andrew Crummy from Maryland on hand or is his foot injury still keeping him out of workouts for teams? I saw that Crummy did attend Maryland's pro day and he did 28 reps of the bench press but was unable to run.

Has anyone heard if the Skins are looking at Crummy as they found some success signing his linemate Stephen Heyer last year? I tried to watch Maryland football but do not follow it too closely - is Crummy projected to be a legit NFL offensive lineman and how often did he get injured while playing at Maryland?

I don't know, but I'm really interested in learning Crummy's standing with the team. Right now it looks like the Redskins will come out of the 1st 3 rounds with a G/T type in Tony Hills and personally I think that Crummy would make a fine C/G type to backup Casey Rabach. I'd have to imagine that they're taking a good look at him as an UDFA, especially considering their success in developing Heyer last year. Right now I envision the draft playing out as follows:

1st - Calias Campbell - DE - Miami
2nd - Jordy Nelson - WR - KSU or Tracy Porter - CB - Indiana
3rd - Tony Hills G/T - Texas
3rd Comp - Zach Bowman - CB - Nebraska or Will Franklin - WR - Missouri
5th - Owen Schmitt - FB - WVU
6th - Corey Lynch - FS - Appalachian State
7th - Joey Haynos - TE - Maryland
7th comp - Alvin Bowen- OLB - Iowa State
7th comp - Kyle Wright - QB - Miami (Sorry ThatGuy, but the combination of physical talent and Miami bloodline makes drafting him a good chance)

UDFA - Andrew Crummy

Thanks for the update. If they got Crummy as a undrafted free agent that would be a nice pickup.

your list looks pretty good - I just hope the Skins focus on the Line a little as the guys on the offensive front are starting to get up in years.

Also the funny thing is if the Skins' are serious about Owen Schmitt and at the same time feel that Bowman will be their in the fifth then chances are that the Bowman/Schmitt picks could flip-flop.

However if Nelson and Schmitt become Redskins on draft day there will be a man crush sweeping the forum that Anthony Mix and Danarian McCants could only dream of.

Overall: Schmitt attended Wisconsin River-Falls before transferring to West Virginia in 2004, redshirting that season. He appeared in 25 games in his first two seasons with the Mountaineers (2005-'06), logging 113 carries for 731 yards (6.5 average) and nine touchdowns, plus 20 receptions for 167 yards (8.4 average) blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah happy is the horsey who drinks the magic tequila. However, we believe Schmitt is the most complete fullback prospect in the 2008 class. He should come off the board somewhere in the fourth-to-fifth round range.

God, I didn't even consider all the Schmitt/Sellers threads. However with the mods around here I think that there will only be one thread thats allowed to stay. ES on the other hand will have at least 4 or 5.
Sans the Jordy Nelson I really like the mock selections you've made. I'd really feel comforted if the Skins made all the respective position selections on draft day. I'm all about the 2nd and 3rd round picks on CB.

The Jordy Nelson selection was based on this quote from Vinny Cerato:
"Receivers are strong in the second or third round," he said. "There's not a top 10 pick [this year]. I don't know if there's a top 20 pick."

Though I like that draft that I just put together the fact remains that it's based more on what I think the Redskins are going to do. At the same time I'm confused since they're bringing in a plethera of Corners for visits so maybe they're targeting a reciever in the third round.

However if they're plaining on a Chad Johnson tradethen chances are that the team will steer clear of drafting a reciever with their first four picks.

Strengths: Plays with confidence, doesn't dwell on mistakes and is comfortable playing on an island. Opens hips smoothly when forced to turn and does an excellent job of getting head turned around downfield. Does not possess ideal speed but he plays faster than 40-time indicates. Changes directions well, shows good burst coming out of breaks and reads routes well. Shows good awareness and can cover a lot of ground when asked to drop into zone coverage. Has quick feet and explodes out of backpedal. Aggressive, has excellent ball skills and is a dangerous open field runner. Isn't very tall but times jumps well, elevates well and flashes the ability to compete for jump balls. Plays with a mean streak, flashes a powerful punch and flashes the ability to slow receivers down at the line. Shows good instincts and fills hard when reads run. Takes sound pursuit angles, has sideline-to-sideline range and always seems to be around the ball at the end of the play. Times blitzes well and shows good closing burst when occasionally turned loose off the edge. Stays alert and gets hands up when isn't going to get to the quarterback.

Weaknesses: Doesn't have great size and is going to get pushed around at times. Can be overaggressive, is vulnerable to double moves and lacks the second gear to recover when gets caught out of position. At times looks like a sound open field tackler but lunges at ball carriers' feet and fails to wrap up at other times. Fractured right fibula in 2004, injured ankle in Chick fil-A Bowl at the end of the 2006 season, hindered by ankle injury during 2007 spring practices and durability is a concern.

Overall: Flowers appeared in the first game of his true freshman season in 2004 and actually returned an interception for a touchdown but he fractured his right fibula in that game and the NCAA granted him a medical red-shirt. He appeared in all 12 games of the 2005 season finishing with 20 total tackles including 13 unassisted tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss. Flowers also intercepted a pass that year. He moved into the starting lineup in 2006 and finished with 51 total tackles including 29 unassisted tackles and 7.5 tackles-for-loss. Flowers also recorded 3.5 sacks and intercepted three passes that year. He started all 14 games of the 2007 season finishing with 86 total tackles including 56 unassisted tackles and eight tackles-for-loss. Flowers also intercepted five passes including one he returned for a touchdown and recovered a fumble last year. Flowers is a slightly undersized corner who did not run well at the combine and had some problems staying healthy earlier in his career. However, he has excellent instincts, quickness and toughness in man-to-man coverage. He also is far more productive in run support than his size indicates. Flowers projects as a late-first or early-second round selection.

Re: Confirmed Pre-Draft Visits

Hmmm... that kinda goes against all the bad things i heard besides the speed. I was under the impression that he struggled in zone coverage and had stiff hips. I knew he had good man-to-man skills and played the run well. Guess thats what i get for moving out of VA and across the country... cant see any of the local guys play anymore.

Re: Confirmed Pre-Draft Visits

Owen Schmitt would definitly put McCants and Mix to shame when it comes to man crushes. I see him as a 3rd rounder to early 4th. Besides being a great blocker the thing I really like about him is that he has really good hands. I cant find the link but I read somewhere that he cought every pass thrown at him durning his senior bowl practice. If Campbell is throwing the ball short a lot next year, he could be a instint contributer on offense.

HIs wiki is pretty sweet

On the psychological written test, a question was asked "Are you a dog or a cat?" Schmitt wrote in "Lion".

Now that I think about it, he might be an ideal fit as the teams 2nd blocking TE untill Sellers leaves the team. In fact according to his scouting report he has experience at TE and given he does a good job at FB in the passing game maybe he can be groomed as a backup TE until he gets the starting FB position. In turn maybe they could move Sellers to the 2nd TE spot. And if I remember right, Cerato was pretty high on Schmitt during an appearance on Redskin Radio.

It said that John Riggins was his favorite football player, maybe its a sign, he's meant to be here, isn't mike seller like 30, 31, he could be backup and could be a blocker when Mike is running the ball.

If that mohawk, style of play, and the fact that he grew up in Fairfax, Virginia doesn't scream "JOHN RIGGINS IS MY HERO" I don't know what does.

Mike has a few good years left, but if there was ever anyone out there to groom Schmitt into being great it would be Mike. Physicially they're the same size and seem to have simular attutides and style of play

Mike worried me last year with his heal/leg injury and concussion. Having him as a special teams stud might limit his role in our offense as he starts to get a little older.

Being a Skins fan makes him a even better fit. As Dirtbag said the only real studs we had come to the Local Pro Day were Erin Henderson and Owen Schmitt, I have to think that has something to due with that fact they want to be Redskins.

I hope they do, they both would really give us some good depth.
