Your first ride?
Unlike Dmek's kids (spoiled rich mofos;)), most of us had pretty shitty first cars. Post pics of your first ride here and give a description of all the "features".
1986 Pontiac Sunbird station wagon (same one as the pic in the "i'm getting sued thread). This wasn't the actual car but you get the idea. |
Re: Your first ride?
LOL nice thread
I rocked a '79 Oldsmobile Tornado for my first ride. My 2nd wasn't much better, a '79 Mercury Grand Marquis. The Merc was a horrible lime green, you could see me coming from a mile away. Both of them could really fly though. |
Re: Your first ride?
My first ride was a convertible. I souped it up, 22 inch "gold" plated rims. Name engraved in the seat. Great mileage
Here's a picture :) Seriously though, Honda Accord. Served me well for 14 years and then just totally crapped out on me. |
Re: Your first ride?
I rolled in a '85 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8c/89-90_Oldsmobile_98.jpg Mine was gold though because I was such a pimp. It had sagging ceiling fabric on the inside. No AC. A rockin' electronic dashboard that was completely possessed. Sometimes it wouldn't even turn on and others the gas meter would show two bars(pretty low) and then 4 bars(pretty high). It all depended on the grade. The bad boy did have a smokin' motor and was tank though. |

I ended up ripping it down and I constantly had foam crumbs falling on me. The best part though was the stereo I installed myself. The stereo was too small for the slot so I crammed a bunch of old towels under it to prop it up. And then I had one of those cassette adapters so I could plug in my pimpin' CD walkman, but it didn't have anti-skip protection so I had to hold on to it or set it in my lap when I drove around. |

I pimped this:
Ladies adored me, haters hated on me. |
Re: Your first ride?
I drove around my sister's Geo Storm while she was in college.
This isn't my car, but it did look just like this, same color and everything :vomit:: When I turned 17 my parents gave me this beauty (again, not actually my car). A 1983 navy blue Chevy Blazer with rally wheels. I was born in late 1982, so there is a very good chance that my car was actually older than me. I loved that thing, until it decided that it didn't like to start if it was under 55 degrees outside. |
Re: Your first ride?
65 Mustang!
Sounds awesome but it was ugly! I got it for $1000. It ran very well and there was no physical damage to the outside of the car. Unfortunately it was an ugly primer color. The front seats leaned so far back I had to put 5 gallon buckets behind them to keep them upright. It had a crappy radio which would fallout if you floored it. God I miss that car! |

.
I think everybody had the sagging fabric. Its amazing with all the technology they couldn't make a glue strong enough to hold cloth. Probably the best feature mine had was after driving it for a while, if you shut it off, it wouldn't start for about 30 minutes. It had something to do with how hot it ran and the starter seized up I think. One of the most embarrassing moments with it was when I went to trade it in to get something else, I parked at the end of the lot. I was about 200 yards away from the sales office and the guy said " Just drive it right up here and I'll take a look at it." When I went back to get the car, of course it wouldn't start. |

I wish mine looked that good. My interior was tore up. The cardboard cover that sat over spare tire well was destroyed. The vehicle had some interior water damage. It was white, but looked like a dalmation because of all of the chips in the paint. Good thing I played football because my ride wasn't picking up any women. I paid $500 for it in 1995 and managed to pass vehicle inspections.....barely. |
Re: Your first ride?
I had a navy blue 1988 Chevy Cavalier coupe. Rusted wheelwells, cut out the droopy headliner (yellow fuzz everywhere), horrible seat frame (replaced the driver's seat 3 times) and you had to really put pressure on the gas pedal for it to go anywhere. It was ugly as sin, but I loved it because it was mine. Parents and I split the $1000 price tag...
Had the car a little over 2 years until a woman coming home from a Xmas party decided to t-bone me with 2 friends in the car. Did a 180 and hit another car in the process. She then proceeded to take the ticket to court to enter a guilty with explanation plea to get some of the points taken off. My buddy, who was in the back seat, messed up his back and was in rehab for over a year. We told our side of the story to the judge, and the judge said there was no way he could lessen the penalty with someone who was injured by the accident... |

While none of the pictures are actually my car, all the colors are the same. The Integra pictured actually looks shockingly like mine looked, rims and all. Very nice thread. |

My ride: same color, but picture a large dent just above the front tire (one on both sides from my mom leaving her parking garage at work after going to happy hour with the girls in her office) and a trunk that was bungee corded to a spare tire to keep it shut, along with a license plate that was stuck in the top of the deck lid with drywall screws. my headliner was fine, but after a few months my stereo stopped working altogether, so I put a boombox in the passenger seat. Also the car only had one working interior doorhandle (which I transfered to the driver's side) . I still remember getting drunk and driving it into a pond twice in the same night... and the smell of mold. The car literally had standing water in the floorboard for weeks... i didnt wear shoes to school... |

Re: Your first ride?
The first car I ever had was an orange VW bus with a camper top. It was great for road trips down to Mexico or up to Big Sur. My freinds and I had a lot of great times in that car when it was running.
Some of its better features where that the windshield wipers didn't work so I tied a close line to one wiper and ran it through the small windows in the front around to the other. When it would start to rain (which wasn't to often in CA) whoever was ridding shot gun would have to pull the rope back and forth at a constant pace so you could see. This would get a little tiring after about 30 min so the shot gun seat would be a rotating position. It came with a fridge and sink behind the passenger seat that really didn't do anything but take up space so I tore that out and just stuck a cooler there. As it turned out the hole in the floor which was there so the sink could drain turned into a mobile pisser. All you had to do was lift the carpet out of the way and you could piss on the street while driving down the road. This really came in handy when I had a bunch of my friends drinking beers on a 7hr road trip. We still had to stop for the ladies but that wasn't as bad as stoping ever 20 minutes for one of the guy's. I only paid $1300 for that car and probably another $3000 keeping it going over the years. But the memories I have in that car are priceless. |

Re: Your first ride?
I also had a blue 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a huge dent in the back passenger door so it couldn't open. The hood and roof were rusted and like Matty's the liner on the sealing was coming off and yellow foam dust would fly ever where. The only good thing about that car was the Kenwood "pullout" CD player I put in it.
My brother and I also shared a 1977 Saab for a little while. That poor car was in great shape until my brother crashed it into the guard rail getting off the FRWY in the rain. After that there was a HUGE dent in the front and the radiator was cracked so you always had to make sure you had at least a gallon of water in the back to poor into it when it would start overheating. Which it would do about ever 30 miles. I must say though that driving all those crappy cars growing up really helped me appreciate the last few cars I’ve owned. |

Re: Your first ride?
All of my friends and I drove buckets, but mine was the crapiest. I struggled to roll fly in my 1978 ORANGE Datsun (before there was a nissan) B-210. It was known as "The Pumpkin". And that piece of shit left me stranded so many times. I always had to have a case of oil in the back because that thing would burn a quart just to take off at a stop light. It had so many things replaced in it, and it still ran like shit.
I had it only 21/2 years and it finally died when I had a couple of months to go before I enlisted in the Marine Corps. |

This was my first ride. It was pretty sweet being that it was 4X4. But it did have its drawbacks, such as neither of the front doors opened from the outside. You would have to open the back door reach up and open the front door. The radio was just an am/fm radio, no casset. And the thing used oil like crazy, I used to joke that when I got gas I had to fill up the oil and check the gas. On a 30 mile trip I would have to stop at least once to put oil in. Finally the drive shaft broke and it the car was not worth what it would cost to fix it so I sold to a buddy of mine that made it into a woodsing car... |

2002 Honda Accord. The low grade version. Not the SE or the EX, like the BASIC car.
Needless to say, as a poor, suffering college student, I'm still driving it. I've got my eyes on the 2009 Accord though. That thing looks wicked. |
