Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
Another chapter to "As the Johnson Turns." Why can't this clown just go away?!?
ESPN - Johnson says he won't attend team functions, demands trade - NFL Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson left no room for doubt Wednesday: He wants out of Cincinnati as fast as possible and he doesn't plan on reporting for any future Bengal function -- mandatory or voluntary. What spurred Johnson's immediate reaction was a statement made by quarterback Carson Palmer that indicated Johnson had told Palmer he would be at the team's mandatory minicamp in mid-June. Johnson said that wasn't true. "I want to make this very clear,'' Johnson said Wednesday. "I don't know where he got that. I made no assertion to Carson that I would do that. Nothing has changed from what I've been saying for three months that I don't want to play for the Bengals.'' Johnson made one of his strongest statements in saying he is not planning on reporting to any team functions because he wants to be traded. "I want to be traded before the draft, and if that doesn't happen, I want to be traded as soon as possible,'' Johnson said. "I don't intend on reporting to anything.'' Johnson is skipping the team's offseason workouts as he tries to push for a trade. But the Bengals have also made it clear that they have no plans of trading him. The Pro Bowl wide receiver said he was surprised by Palmer's comments about his possibly reporting to mandatory camp. "I wish he would stay out of my business,'' Johnson said. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
...Like sands through the hourglass so are the eternal threads on CJ to the Redskins
Looks like CJ's agent wants to move to the next phase and has told him to be more vocal about getting out of Cinnci. Wanting it by the draft though is a bit absurd since teams are focusing on their draftboards. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
I don't know. All it takes is one team looking at their draft board in disgust to pick up the phone and give the Bengals a viable offer. So I would say that demanding a trade before the draft might be a good strategy after all.
|
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
I am reminded of Lance Briggs when he made the same statements last year at this time. Who can forget "I'll never play another down in a Bears uniform." Not only did he play, but he signed a big contract with them as well later in the season. So we all know how that turned out.
Then when his absences were going to cost him money, he was the first one in the locker room. I can see a similar situation with CJ. Right now, the "voluntary" workouts do not cost him anything. Just wait until camp starts and he does not get paid and gets fined 10,000 a day for holding out. I have a feeling he will show up. If Johnson wants out of Cincy SOOOO bad, how come we hear him scream TRADE ME! But we do not hear him say "I'll pay back my signing bonus" to alleviate that cap hit. If he REALLY wants out of there that badly he needs to pay back his bonus and not ask the Bengals to make all of the financial sacrifices associated with his trade. Put up or shut up Johnson.....you are wasting everyones time. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
sandtrap, your boys have 2 1st rnd. picks & JJ seems to think he can get anyone to walk st. and narrow. I really wouldn't be surprised to hear dallas' name in the mix for CJ as the draft approaches.

Maybe that's already been tried. Either way as mentioned here, it doesn't get serious until he starts really missing mandatory practices, then someone's got to call the other's bluff & do something. Marvin Lewis & co. may be in a position now where they have to dig their heels in. |

Not saying that if the Bengals want to trade him to Dallas I would not be happy to have him. But Johnson would stand a much better chance of any trade happening if he put something in the pot on the table. That is all. Until he offers to make at least part of the sacrifice, his demands lack credibility. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
Chad Johnson sure is a whiny bitch. What is up with WR's in general? There seems to be an extra large percentage of ego maniacs running go routes in the NFL. Not to say I wouldn't be happy to have CJ for a reasonable price, but he is turning into a total mental case off the field. At least he doesn't get in trouble with law.

CJ is trying to force their hand but at the same time is looking bad in doing so, might lower his value a lot. Please don't do it danny!

Stinko on the 'Warpath'.....huh. What a surprise.
Redskins Insider Posted at 4:13 PM ET, 04/16/2008 Chad Johnson On The Warpath, Again As I wrote about months ago, Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato have a thing for Chad Johnson. It was a staple of their interviews with head coaching candidates. He would fill what they believe to be the biggest void on the team, or at least so they told several of the men they considered to replace Joe Gibbs. So now Chad is going postal again, ranting and raving that he won't report for any Bengals team activity and lashing out at QB Carson Palmer. This is Rosenhaus 101 people. And sometimes it actually does work and his client creates such a ridiculous stir that he gets traded. So far the Bengals have refused to cave on anything and the Brown family, team owners, have told other execs that they don't care if Johnson does sit out the entire year, they're not rewarding his outlandish antics. They own the contract and they control his rights. Again, stay tuned. In June when Johnson's cap hit would be halved no doubt teams will be nosing around again. I would be stunned if the Bengals did anything before then and people around the NFL continue to tell me they don't this this cat gets moved regardless, especially after Chris Henry got cut. Still, the Bengals have needs and are trying to create a new identity, free from this kind of stuff. Never say never. And if they do actually shop him, I would be stunned if the Skins didn't pounce. They created all that cap room for a reason, and it wasn't just to re-sign Collins, Frost, Cartwright and Fabini. |

Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
Clinton Portis has said that he and CJ are great friends and he would love his energy on the team, and his talent speaks for itself
I would LOVE to have CJ as a redskin, have always said it. Hes a great great receiver. He and Portis would make the redskins the most fun team in the league to watch, both for on field production and off the field antics. celebrating too much shouldnt be that big of a deal. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
lets not kiss the guys ass now okay...don't get me wrong now i would like..love to have his caliber on my side(and not the cowboys). But i can see him in a year or two down Campbells throat. But if i can garnish a championship before then..Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat.

Teams would have a hard time deciding who to cover.....but I can't see him going anywhere if he is not willing to concede something. Unless he or his agent has been trying to negotiate this very issue behind the scenes. I checked one of the Bengals message boards and they said something about last week CJ's agent was seen talking to the coach who had his arms crossed and did not interact with the agent. Now we hear CJ again. Interesting. My arguement in the past has simply been "Never say Never." People are saying CJ will never be traded due to his CAP hit. I keep pointing out exactly what you said Sandtrap....that Arrington was able to work it so I can't see why CJ can't but he has to be willing to concede something. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
i'm still for it if they can get it done without destroying our pick etc.

Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
Lets face it, now matter how much snyder has learned, Ocho Cinco is gonna be a skin next year. I cant see where else he'd go.
|
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
I would embrace CJ here in a second. He's not happy with his team, he's not happy with the internal workings of the Bengals. They have the same problems year in and year out, I don't blame him.
Would anyone be upset if the team up and cut him? The team signs a contract just like the player, but they can break it with few repercussion from fans. It's just business when they cut a player because of finances, but he's a selfish dick when he does the same thing. CJ is a workout warrior. He's fun, and I know people hate that. He enjoys what he does and works hard at it. The Bengals will trade him and trade him for less than he's worth. Im for that. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
Mmmmm i could go for a little CJ.
|
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
The problem is everyone wants to point there finger at CJ and call him a problem child. You all have said it yourself he is what 30yo and he knows his time is becoming limited and wants a ring and with the internal workings of the Bengals he knows he will not see it with them. I don't see how anyone can blame him. If he stays with the Bengals and becomes a good player all he is, is a life long Bengal who may have broke some records. He might make it into their "Ring of fire" in the stadium. WOW. He's getting older and knows it but he still has about 4-5 yrs left. Good enough for the Skins and good enough until we get another WR to take over after him.
|
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
Can you see it now......JC throws to CJ for a TD.
i'm still for it if they can get it done without destroying our pick etc.
couldnt agree more. How many times have we aquired "questionable" talent at WR over the years. His skills are there, but if hes this big a pain in the ass and he gets what he wants, expect him to do the same next go around... |

I'm not blaming him for doing it, he just should have gone about it a different way. As soon as you run your mouth in this league alarms start going off. I could care less though about him bitching, I would welcome him with open arms to this team (provided we keep our #1 picks in place) |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
I would love CJ here. No one considered him a problem until this past year. His team threw him under the bus when things went bad and he got offended. No one had a problem with his celebrations when they were going to the playoffs. CJ always seems like he is one of the hardest workers in the NFL. He has always been a player that I have enjoyed watching and everyone knows he will do anything to win. 5 time pro bowler and 3 time all pro... I'll be right in line to get an ocho cinco jersey if he did ever come here.
If he doesn't come here and is traded, there is a good chance it will be to the cowboys. That would suck. |

Cincinatti, Philadelphia, Dallas to name a few places, the first being most likely. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
I dont know what I am mad at CJ for the most: being a sorry excuse for an NFL role model or making someone start another Chad Johnson on this site! There should be only one solution to his problem and that is to not sign any contract extensions and wait it out. It is okay to say you want to be traded, but I feel that signing a contract guarantees that you will give your all to the franchise. If he is not traded, he is 200% in the wrong for not reporting. He is a disgrace as a role model, and thats not to say I wouldnt like him here. He would be an asset to any franchise but if for some reason he wants out of here, I would not want to be in the same situation as the Bengals.

Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
For the right price (what that is, I'm not really sure) I'd absolutely welcome CJ to the Redskins. His biggest crime is he talks too much. Big deal. John Riggins talked a lot, Gary Clark talked a lot. Some say Clinton Portis talks too much. He's shown no reason to make us believe he's going to have run in with the law or would be suspended for any reason. And even when he's complaining he still performs at an elite level.
The biggest problem I foresee really is that CJ will expect (and deservedly so) to be the #1 WR on the team. But then what do you do with Santana Moss? Whether you think Moss should be the #1 or not, fact is that the Redskins have been saying they've been looking for a #2 to complement Moss not a #1 to replace him. Of course, that could just be posturing on the Redskins part. Still, it bears watching. |

The fact that he could have some impact on team chemistry is what concerns me. If he comes here he's definitely the #1 I don't care how the coaches or players want to spin it. Would Moss be able to handle being the #2 option? If not does that trickle down to guys like Portis? |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
And the other thing is how much better does he really make the team? For all his greatness in Cincinnati they were basically a .500 team the last few years. So does it make sense to invest picks (and possibly players) in a trade for him, or focus those efforts elswehere?

Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
For the people who are so enamored with the guy, here's what some Bengals and other NFL fans say about him, compliments of "The Sporting News."
SportingNews.com - Your expert source for NFL Football stats, scores, standings, blogs and fantasy news from NFL Football columnists As a lifelong Bengals fan (I question myself often), I really don't care what Chad Johnson wants. If he won't play, let him sit out. He doesn't get paid, his value goes down, let him make a bigger jackass out of himself than he already has. If you are not a Bengals fan, you only know what you hear from TV. He's being sued, and charges are pending on him right now from an incident at a comedy club last year where he was selling raffle tickets to give away his Lexus, and trips to the Pro Bowl. On the night of the giveaway, he showed up and told the crowd he gave the car to his girlfriend, and no trips were given away either. The guy is self-centered, and has never grown up. He has no idea what teamwork is, and has no intention on trying to win....only get his face on TV. Do I want him in Cincinnati.....NO! We haven't won anything with him, so what's the difference? But at the same time.....I want Cincinnati to destroy the rest of his career as well. I'm sick of his mouth and his attitude, it's time for him to pay. If they ever do trade him, I'd make sure to send him to a team without a good quarterback. If he thinks he's mad now, I'd make sure to make him even more miserable. Chad is all about Chad. Never mind that 52 other guys, a coaching staff, trainers, and a legion of fans are all counting on him to help the team. 'Gotta get mine, it's all about me.' A true product of the hip-hop culture. Get used to guys like this, modern america is spitting them out daily while we let it happen. Other teams should think long and hard about trading for a guy who can't stick with his team through thick and thin. Everybody wants to win, but something will always go wrong at some point, and you have to have some heart to support your teammates and make things right. Wasn't he on Sportscenter last week or the week before claiming he would be at training camp no matter what? Jaysus H. Bodacious Keerayest, this guy whines like a little girl all the time. For guys like Chad Johnson who always act as if their manhood is being challenged, it would be a neat change of pace if they stopped whining like little girls all the time. I don't know how many times I warned his ego antics were going to catch up with the Bengals. People just laughed it off, said they loved it, he provides humor and an entertaining aspect to the game, yadda yadda freakin' yadda. Do you see now that these egomaniacs rarely pan out at least until they get their head screwed on straight. When T.O. finally began to shut his trap, the 'Boys started to put things together. While my disdain for the Patriots runs deep, Randy Moss finally found a comfort zone when he focused on just winning. Chad is a clown, period. Laughs, jokes, and zany stunts galore aren't going to get your team that has deep character issues anywhere. I say trade him to the NFC so you never have to see him. You'll get solid talent, maybe a defensive star. You still have TJ and can pick up a solid WR in the draft. So, on 10/01/2003, with one year left on his rookie contract, Chad extends his contract for 5 years, worth 25 Million. On 4/20/2006, he extends another contract that pays 35 million through 2011. On that day, Marvin Lewis says "...I want to commend Chad for his efforts in making this happen. He is showing his commitment to what we have going here." Now this... only 2 years later. In the real world people who make demands while under contract get fired. I do not understand why the NFL or the teams tolerate this kind of conduct. He should be fined and suspended for this junk.(and I like him) Chad Johnson is a cancer, and it is hard to win championships with guys that kill team chemistry. Chad has signed two lucritive contract extentions. The latest of which was signed less than two years ago. If Cincy was so bad, Chad, why ink yourself in til 2012? The team can't cut or trade you now. That 8 million dollar cap hit will cause them to have to cut several starters. The team won't do that. The team shouldn't do that. Like Lewis said, if Chad wants to play he will have to play in Cincy. You know I have seen almost all of his interviews this offseason. Part of the time he claims he won't show up. Other times, he claims that he will. Other times he babbles and mumbles not knowing what he wants. He complains about the local media in Cincy. What should he expect in NY, Dallas, Philly, or Miami? Heck, Philly would crucify him for half of the things he pulls. To Chad, shut up and play. You made your bed by signing such a long contract. If you don't want to play, have fun on the bench. His Wiki-page states that his "first love was soccer, but he chose football in high school because it gave him more opportunity". That tells me all I need to know... I'm a Chad Johnson fan, but he needs to honor his contract. you signed a contract and now you want to void it. don't reneg on your word. quit the bellyaching and play the game. this guy is starting to become a cancer to his team. So you got stuck on a crappy team. Quit crying about it and put in your 110% to make it better. What if every player bailed on his team when it didn't win? This guy strikes me as a spoiled brat. He probably is just naturally gifted and never had to really work hard to be the best guy at his position. He comes off as totally self centered with no concept of the word team. Hell, if he was on my Pop Warner team I'd tell him that if he doesn't run his laps he can sit on the bench and waste his parents money. I don't care how good you are as an individual if you can't give your all to the team, even when it is losing, then you aren't a complete player. Sit him, fine him, teach him a lesson and you know what? Let's just all quit talking about him and see how he likes fading into anonymity. When nobody knows who Ain't-chu Stinko is anymore he'll be begging the Bungles to take him back. This guy's dad needs to put a foot in his *** and make him behave. Just my .02 You forget to note he routinely leads the league in dropped passes. I just don't get it. The same players that whine and fight for long-term high pay contracts complain about the team and demand trades. You signed a contract - have a little integrity and show up to work. If you want to see why the team has had some turmoil - perhaps you should look in the mirror, Mr. Johnson. What have you done to contribute to that organizations sense of teamwork and unity. Every time I hear about ocho-cinco it's about a new complaint or holdout. Just play the game. Maybe you'd have some trade value if you'd quit complaining all the time. |
Re: Ocho Stinko: "I want to be traded before the draft"
All the real problem children the Bengals have and the fans want to complain about Chad Johnson? Loser franchise with loser fans.

Couldn't agree more with the first paragraph. Nobody ever questioned his work ethic or teamwork before all this trade talk. Now the Bengals (and their pathetic fans) want to save face by ripping him apart on the way out the door. I mean seriously, you're going to complain about Chad Johnson if you're a Bengals fan? He's like one of 4 guys on your team that hasn't broken the law or been suspended in the last 3 years. As for Moss, I don't see a problem there. Personally, I think Moss is better suited as a #2, and even if the organization wants to pitch him as a #1, then we can look to Arizona, Cincinnatti (ironically), and Indianapolis to see that there are plenty of balls to go around to keep two #1 WRs busy on a team. |

Hosyourmomma anticipates 'problem' in Cinny if STINKO isn't traded......like they don't already have any?
