Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
GCOBB.COM::The One Stop Shop For Philadelphia Eagles Fans - Quick - News Coming On Roy Williams
Mike Quick who is the analyst for the Eagles games with Merrill Reese says there will be news about Roy Williams before the week is out. That means the Cowboys, Redskins or the Eagles will probably wind up with the receiver before the week is out. Mike just finished doing a live interview in a webcast with G. Cobb and Steve Martorano from Infiniti of Westchester and he says the Birds will try to do something this week. They're in a bidding a war right now., |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Id be happy if this went down. Curious what the compensation would be.

Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Does the link for for you guys? I dont know if its bad or just our stupid work networks...
Hmm...I dont like that its between our division. I only want him in our division if he plays for us. And I dont want us to have to give up everythign in a bidding war. Just tell them "Hey, Randy Moss got traded for a 4th...we'll give you a fifth" |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
He's the only available WR id be ok parting with our first round pick.

After what the Pats got form Randy Moss I would NOT be willing to give up a first rounder for him at all. |

I secondly am not crazy about the fact that IF there is any truth to this and it turns into a divisional bidding war, but thats life and the highest bidder wins period thats business. And if thats the case I would have to at least think the odds are he lands elsewhere....like philly? They have made serious runs at the best WR's available this off season. And third he isn't Randy Moss and that was then and this is now. He's not going anywhere for a fifth, maybe a first or second. This guy is a top shelf WR in this league now, and will require Top dollar and picks IMO. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
he's worth a second if his contract demands aren't ourageous... rather get him for a 3rd or less though, since he only has a year left and he's not a superstud.

Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
I heard the Eagles are offering their 1st and Lito. Don't know if that's still true

If it is that'd be tough to beat. Unless the Lions are interested in Betts. I would hate to get rid of Betts though. Top notch insurance policy for CP. |

Yes but Roy Williams is not the trouble maker Randy Moss was when he was on the Raiders and Vikings. Also Randy Moss was coming off two terrible seasons in Oakland. And just because the raiders were stupid enough to get rid of him for a fourth does not make it the precedent for all other WR trades. There are three teams in need of a Big Play making Receiver and they are all in the same division competing for RW's services. The Price goes Up!!!! Either or CJ will most likely get traded this week. Would you rather throw high picks @ him? |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Roy williams, one year left? You mean in his contract right? not his career

Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
when you look at it we are a DB, or DE priority team right now. The Cowboys, too need some help on defense. With T.O. and us with ARE and Moss, I just cannot see anyone other than the Eagles end up with Roy Williams. WR for them is priority #1 and their offer will be higher. I am in no way saying we couldnt use Williams. I would be moderately happy if we let go of a #2 pick for him. A WR is a need for us right now but I really hope we use that #1 on some defense and save a draft pick or a draft pick trade for a WR later in the week.
|
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Being a Texas native...I can see the Cowboys having the edge over the Eagles and us if we all offer equivalent compensation for Roy...So we would most likely have to go above & beyond his actual value to win the bid...you can forget about that 4th rounder BS

Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Oh man, the Redskins fan base is going to go crazy over this. I don't think it's to likely so I won't get my hopes up however if he can stay healthy then it would be a great pickup for the team.
|
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
I would like to keep our draft choices for a change. I don't think we have anything to gain in a bidding war.

JLC blog:
Redskins Insider Posted at 5:56 PM ET, 04/21/2008 Roy Williams (the Detroit one) Getting a lot of emails about the latest rumors of the big WR getting dealt. Now, if he was on the market, I have no doubt the Skins would pursue him in earnest given their feelings for the thus-far un-obtainable Chad Johnson. But from what I gathered today making calls on the drive up to Philly to cover the Caps, he's not being actively shopped. Teams are calling but spoke to someone today who was in contact with the Lions who was told Williams is not on the block. Perhaps the right offer comes along, but as of this instant I don't see it happening. Things have a way of heating up the 24-48 hours before the draft so we'll keep an eye on it. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Did anyone hear? Calvin Johnson is a junkie!~~~~
Well not really, but he did admit that he used a good amount of pain killers to get him through the season last year. Personally I'm kind of glad we didn't give up our draft this year to get him last year. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
I wouldn't take him cause of his age and what we would have to pay to get him.........
I hear he has issues........... He would more then likely come in here and damage our cohesiveness...... I hear he's a primidana........ I heard he attacked one of his coach's......... I hope we just go with the draft thingy cause no one appears to want a talented, proven, vetran at this point. We prefer to call it re-building and starting fresh....perhaps we can get a talented, unproven, rookie to blame when things go wrong. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
I almost forgot...........I hear it has everything to do with him wanting more money too.

Now there you go bringing logic and good sense into it. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
If I remember right, Roy Williams made some comments about how he's "not a West Coast Offense WR" a few months (years?) back.
I say, wait a year and go hard after Marques Colston |

I would just be beside myself if yet ANOTHER elite WR comes into the NFC East.

that piece of crap should be able to be sued by the Raiders. He didnt want to play... give me a break. I sure am glad all of our recievers want to play, or that all the WR's in the league dont ever take his logic and run with it. Anyways, thats my rant...... back on topic.. oh yeah I already responded 1.RW = good but we dont need him enough to part with a 1st or 2nd round. 2. Dallas is content with the pass dropping TO and the flash-in-the-pan Patrick Crayton. plus their defense is holyer than the Pope's swiss cheese. 3. The Eagles REALLY need a WR. Call me a bad fan, but I had to Google them just to see who their #1 receiver was. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
The Raiders had shit for talent. It doesn't mean Randy wasn't trying. When your Oline is holding for two seconds, it's hard to get a pass off. Who was Moss' QB? Who was across from him? Let's also look at this -- Randy Moss when hes at his prime goes deep. He burns DBs, he has great hands, and is best for that system. The way he was being used in Oakland didn't allow for him to use his skillset to the best of his potential.
Let's also remember that the Pats gave up two 2nd round picks for Wes Welker. Wes Welker was a good player, but far from a stud. I love how everyone points at Randy Moss and ignores the compensation given to the Dolphins for Welker. |

Didn't he lead the league in receptions? Plus, how many drives were extended with his run after the catch on 3rd down? |

That's a bold statement..... Welker is very good, but would not have had the success he did without Moss drawing as much attention he does. Didn't Moss set the TD record for WR this year too (23 I believe). Teams don't gameplan to take away Welker, they do for Moss. I'd Welker over the lazy Moss in Oak, but the Moss we've seen thusfar in NE is head and shoulders (literally and figuratively) above Welker. |
Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
I think we may have veered too far towards the 'don't trade picks for players position' after some bad deals. Williams and Chad Johnson are not Brandon Lloyd and TJ Duckett. I'd be content to go into the draft with a full complement of picks, but you can't say "I'll give you a 5th for Roy Williams, hey he's no Randy Moss and he only got a 4th". That is completely absurd. Javon Walker was dealt for a 2nd, Welker for a 2nd plus, Chris Chambers for a 2nd ... and Williams and Johnson are both top 10 WRs in this league (and before you blast me on that, Nate Clements agrees ESPN - Clements: Numbers don't lie for Harrison - NFL). We'll see what happens, but lets just say 'no thanks' rather than something crazy like 'I'd take him for a 5th', it's becoming the new 'vet min'.

Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
If the cost is really a first and Lito then I absolutely hope this goes down. While there is no doubt Williams would instantly improve their offense, their team has too many holes, is aging, is not close enough to getting back to the superbowl to mortgage that much to win now, no matter the age of the QB.
The Eagles achieved what they did through the draft. Their free agency splashes have by and large been disasters. |
After what the Pats got form Randy Moss I would NOT be willing to give up a first rounder for him at all.
As others have noted, that trade shouldn't be used as a benchmark for what a player is worth. Randy Moss was perceived as an unhappy and unmotivated player with his skills on the decline. Some people speculated that Randy Moss planned to retire because he lost all interest in football. To boot, he was costing the Raiders and arm and a leg in cap space. Would you trade Roy Williams for a 4th rounder if you were the GM of the Lions? I'm sure you wouldn't. Would you change your mind if someone told you that the Pats got Randy Moss for a 4th rounder? I'm sure you would't. So, I don't think it's realistic to think that trade has any real bearing on trades for young, emerging superstars like Roy Williams. |

i hate the word bid...whenever you bid for something you normally pay too much

We’ve picked up some more information about those rumors on GCobb.com that the Philadelphia Eagles will make a move this week for Lions receiver Roy Williams. The Eagles-based web site says that the Eagles, Cowboys, and Redskins are in the hunt for Williams. On Monday, however, coach Rod Marinelli and CEO Matt Millen again said that Williams, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, will not be traded. As we hear it, the Eagles offered cornerback Lito Sheppard and a draft pick a couple of weeks ago, and the Lions flatly refused. |

LOL...damn I would hope not. We need the WR. He's the only person I wouldn't mind throwing a draft pick at. He's a flat out stud and hasn't hit his prime yet. |

Re: Roy Williams To Skins Heating Up?
Would be a good pickup for us if the price was right. I wouldn't want him on another of the other divisional teams though. If the Eagles are willing to give thier 1st and Lito, we have no chance.
I've said it before, I wouldn't have a problem giving up our 1st for a known talent. There's way to many suprises to be had in this years draft in the later rounds. |

Also, he can return kicks/punts, and can even kick. He is a hard worker and would be a complete asset to any #1 receiver be it Moss, Ward, or even whoever the #1 is in Miami. IMO, and I must stress this IMO, Moss is expendable. The right combination of #1, #2, and #3 receivers is key to success. Its like the two back system. The days of one huge receiver are over, and Welker is its pioneer. He has that unique characteristic to complement any #1 receiver. This is just one twisted veiw, so please dont hurt me.... but once again, give me a choice and I would pick Welker over Moss any day |
